Well, I noticed the Swiss study was done on those imprisoned. I would be depressed if I was in prison too. But, I do know a lot of friends in my hall and neighboring halls who are all on meds for depression. And every circumstance is different. But, I think one big cause is the Witnesses put off life to wait on the real life in the new system. They take jobs that don't measure up to their full potential. And just deprive themselves of a lot of things in order to put Kingdom interest first. And a lot of focus is on negative aspects of society, a sign of the times. So who wouldn't get anxious and depressed.

Jevovah's Witnesses and mental health
by bubba flavel indoes anyone know if the society has specific policies on the handling of members with mental health problems?.
my grandfather, a brother in good standing since moses developed paranoid schizophrenia in his later years.
he got to the stage where he would knock people over in the street, place his hand on thier head and cast out evil spirits in the name of jehovah.. he was disfellowshiped and not long after he passed away.. this was related to me by a friend years later as i was unaware due to the shunning, i didn't even know he died.

Elders who step down for little or no reason?
by Truthexplorer inwithin the past decade, two elders stepped down in my old congregation.
actually one was taken off for commiting adultery and therefore reproved, but the other one simply stepped down for no apparent reason.
also, in another congregation i used to attend for a short time, i was shocked to hear of another elder stepping down, again for no apparent reason.. i am wondering if there has been an increase in the number of elders stepping down for no obvious reason and to see if this is a worrying trend causing alarm for the society.. i am thinking the past 10 years, particularly with the internet being available to so many people around the world today; but have you experienced many elders stepping down in your congregation or past congregation?

And I know of one elder who didn't go to his daughter's wedding because she was marrying a "worldly" man. If he went he would have to give up his position. I thought that would be a conscious matter though. She didn't get married in a church or anything like that. That kind of confused me.

Well, I know a couple of brothers who stepped down as elders because of burnout, and having problems within the elder body, even if, they weren't personally involved. And a few have to step down because of family issues.

It depends on the guy. Some look great with the unshaven look, others look awful.

It's 9 freaking degrees fahreheit here, plus it's Friday night and I'm too tired to even get out to see a movie. Plus a confession, most of the stuff on here about 607 B.C.E, the new, or is it next generation, and 1914 completely goes over my head. And it makes me feel stupid.

How old was God when he made the earth?
by Paralipomenon inin all, i enjoy numbers and math.
as such i can see problems from a mathmatical basis where they exist.. this thought came to me last night.. 1 in the beginning god created the heavens and the earth.. 2 now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the spirit of god was hovering over the waters.. 3 and god said, "let there be light," and there was light.
4 god saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.

He lived a lifetime of an entire "generation" before the earth was created.

Go with your gut instinct, if you're getting creep radar, forget him. And if you do decide to go out with him, stay in public places and take your own vehicle. Play it safe.

While You Were A JW Did You Feel Controlled?
by minimus inthe governing body constantly tries to impose its will on jehovah's witnesses.
they really don't want you to do anything but society approved things.
everything is "bad".. we can see this quite clearly at this point.

Well, not until recently. I never thought of it before as being controlled. It was just something else to feel guilty about and have to work on. But, now, with the recent information about how to keep your hands to yourself during prayer. And at my hall, the elders treating us like children by couseling us not to read the information board during the meeting. It's all become a bit too much. Don't know how much more I can take.

Would YOU Stop Wearing Cologne Or Perfume At A KH If Someone Had Allergies?
by minimus inwe had a few that would start coughing if someone wore a fragrance.
they would make a big deal about anyone wearing cologne and say such ones were not loving and considerate.
some elders would recommend that witnesses should not wear any cologne or perfume, if they loved their brother or sister.

Yes, I have stopped wearing any perfumes. This thread reminds me of the time I was visiting another hall. And some older brother there is wearing the most nauseating cheap colonge. And two weeks went by, back in my own hall, and this older brother sits in the same row wearing the same awful cologne. And I'm thinking, do all these older men purchase the same cheap stuff. Here it was the same brother, old enough to be my grandfather followed me back to my hall. yuck On a sad note though, I heard he recently died. But, I don't know how some 60, 70 year old thinks they have a chance with a 20 something, my age at the time.

I live in the U.S. and he was registered as a sex offender. But, I checked the website and couldn't find him on there anymore. He was disfellowshipped for a few years now. A judge had ordered him not to come within a radius in this area where most of his victims live. He lives a good couple of hours from here. I know one of his victims has kept tabs on him through his new congregation. He is quite elderly now, so I'm hoping no family with young daughters befriends them. A lot of the friends here are upset that he was reinstated. If my friend and another sister wouldn't have come forward, he still would be doing what he was guilty of for decades. Of course, I can't be certain he wouldn't still find a way to abuse children. I hate to reveal too much of the situation, but just to show how low he is, he even abused his mentally challenged grand-daughter. That's actually how it all came out. Well, I am going to ask around those in the know, and see how aware others in the new hall are aware of his past.
