Is anyone else here snowed in? I'm going crazy here. I haven't been able to get to work all week. And I keep shoveling snow, and more keeps falling. I just want to know, I'm not alone here.

Elder uses Congregation Bible Study as an opportunity to ban the movie Avatar
by easyreader1970 inlast night, during the congregation bible study, the conductor (overseer?
) used this as a platform to say that the movie avatar is of satan and no christians should see it.. .
he said that he googled the (original) meaning of the word avatar and it was of hindu religious origin.

A lot of Witnesses here saw the movie "Avatar" and liked it. We did have an overzealous brother give the same commet about avatar meaning Hindu gods in human form or some nonsense. I wasn't paying that much attention, I was too busy rolling my eyes. A pioneer sister noticed me and kind of gave me a smile, like, yeah, I know, it's over the top. And it is enough to send someone over the edge. Actually the conducter to his credit didn't say anything about the comment. But, they have to understand that this is a matter of conscience. And I want to tell them please do not treat those who do not agree with you on this as worthless sinners. I still want to see that movie, I just haven't had the opportunity yet.

Feeling Unfit, Fat and Unhealthy
by cantleave ina semi-serious request.. i hate exercise (yes i am an indolent slob), i sit in an office or a car most of the time and eat and drink too much.
so my new year's resolution is to lose weight (about 3 stone would be good) to try and prolong my life a little since i ain't got eternity in mind anymore.
i am looking for fun ways to get fit, or an effective home based diet programme that has worked for other people.

As others have mentioned, walking is the best exercise, especially when you're just starting out. It's best to start out with maybe 20 minutes to half hour and build from there. It may be hard at first, but you will start to feel better too. Exercise can be quite addicting and the best anti-depressant drug out there with the best side effects.

How many of you have tried "Vegemite"????? Whatdoya think?
by Witness 007 ina black aussie spread that is made from yeast and has a very strange yet nice flavour.
hard to discribe....alittle salty and bitter.....tried it?.

I actually had to order it, because they don't sell it in stores in the U.S. as far as I know. Anyway, I wanted to try it, because I have a good Aussie friend who dared me. And I honestly can't say I like it that much, but I don't hate it. It's a bit too salty for me. How long does it keep anyway, because I still have a full jar of it.

Worst Witness Wedding Experience?
by spawn inwe went to oz for a wedding of a brother and sister from the sydney bethel.
it was the most bizzare wedding of all time, the cake was a multi coloured telitubby creation and the veggie food option was baby octopus and squid, the alcohol was free flowing and all bethelites in attendance took full advantage.
we were sat listening to the speaches and it was getting rowdier and rowdier and some of the language was rather unscriptual to say the least, as it was mixed jw and non jw we were surprised to find that all of this noise came from the bethelites.

At one wedding the bride's father gave an hour talk and then, her uncle from the Spanish congregation, gave another hour talk in Spanish. Then, over 300 and counting people had to wait in a stuffy firehall for the bride and groom to finish with pictures. And they only served the guests water while they were waiting. The bride's mother grabbed sisters in attendence to help serve the tap water. On top of that, it happened to be the bride's parents anniversary, so there was a cake for them too. Talk about stealing your daughter's day and making it about you.
A friend related to me how one bridesmaid decided to run a few errands on the way to the reception hall and made everyone wait for her. Another bridesmaid wanted to punch her lights out. lol. too funny.
I stay away from weddings for obvious reasons. Sadly,it's the only time most Witnesses get to dance and come close to having a party.

Onereason for a gentleman fader to stay reasonably associated...
by whataburger inone congregation phenomenon i have observed in a variety of halls - older, not so model material brothers have a real chance with younger, attractive sisters - and often at the prodding of the young sisters parents and congregation members.. and if you have a little more scratch than the average jw brother (which isn't hard to do with a bunch of window washers), you really have an advantage.. a 40 year old man walking through the mall would have zero chances with an attractive 18+ year old girl.
but take that same man, who has been faithfully attending meetings and doing all the right things and put him in the kingdom hall and suddenly anything is possible.. sad, but true.. of course, who wants all the drama that comes with a girl that young - but it is something i have observed.. when i was in my early 20's and came back into "the truth", and i had a few dollars - and i had so many sisters tripping all over themselves for me... and the ages range from late teens to late 30's.
it was crazy.

I must add to this that I do know of a case where a sister in her fifties married a younger brother in his 20's. He was friends with her son. It caused a lot of uproar and divided the congregation. And I know a couple of sisters that married brothers 10 years younger than them. It's just not accepted as much as when it's a man marrying a younger woman. I've also observed in the organization, that men don't have to work nearly as hard to be acceptable husband material that the sisters do, no matter what their age. Frankly, I've given up on finding a brother, and now, I'm not sure I want one anymore. He would eventually have to turn me in for apostasy.

I'm the same way Oz. Being raised a Witness, I took their word for it, that is was the truth. The "research" I did was study the "Live Forever" and "Truth" book before I got baptized at 16. So, before and if, I totally leave, I need to be sure of things with my own research and on my own terms. So, I'm doing similiar research.

Well, I'm single and still attend meetings. And the chances of me getting married in the org. , a 37 year old single sister, is next to none. But, I'm not really that desperate to just take anyone. I've been finding "worldly" men are much more interesting with better prospects.

How come people with the least means of supporting themselves ''Pioneer'' ?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inmy cousin told me last week that for the month of february she was ''pioneering''.
here is a person who was divorced 2 years ago and had to move in with her mom because she can't afford to live on her own .she only works 4 days a week.
she pays $600 every 2 months for health insurance because she is self-employed.

There is a pioneer sister at my hall who works full-time in the medical field. Most of the pioneers at the halls I attended were housewives. And especially when you're raised in the truth, some parents expect their children to pioneer right out of high school without the needed job skills to support themselves. And like I thougt, about 19 years ago, that the new system was right around the corner so who needs a career. I'm paying the price of that mindset now.
