Why should I have to sign a letter saying I want to disassociate ?
by troubled mind ini don't understand why the elders want this letter so badly ....for one i don't remember signing a contract to become a jehovah's witness ,why do i need to resign ?.
also i was baptised in 1978 before the baptism questions changed , i dedicated myself to god not an organization .
my vow was to follow the direction by holy spirit as revealed to me through the bible, not the watchtower ...... if i belonged to the luthern church and quit going after three yrs they drop your name off the member list ........but if i chose to come to easter or christmas service everyonre would still talk to me i just wouldn't be a member any more .. .

Yes, I agree, it's all about control. I've realized the last few months the organization comes down to technicalities. It's all about dotting the i's and crossing the t's.
Example: A young sister is engaged to an unbaptized publisher. He gets baptized three weeks before the wedding.
A friend of the bride commented that she was glad he got baptized or otherwise she wouldn't have been able to go to the wedding.
I know this has nothing to do with your situation, but they are so much into the details and finalizing everything. From what you have written on this board, you were just minding your own business and living your life. I don't see why they need a letter signed from you, except to make it all official.

District Conventions: The Single People/Wanna Be Married Opportunity
by mentallyfree31 inas the conventions started today in my home state, i can't help but think of the hundreds of jw young people that i know who are still single, esp those over 25. it's really sad that for so many this is their only chance of finding somebody to date.
some that i know have even crossed over into their 30's, and they go year after year, always talking about the possibility of meeting someone special.. the organization literally controls their minds, and dating and marriage to a non-jw is out of the question.
it's so sad that so many have missed out on their life's dreams of having a family and companionship.

One sister compared the brothers to a parking lot. The good ones are all taken and the rest are all handicapped.
But, as a disclaimer there are exceptions to this rule. There are married jerks and nice, single ones.
But, it is no fun being single and over 30 in the organization. All the articles on singleness, do not help either

Now, your service overseer hands out the badges, and at my hall they already have your name on it.
Speaking of anal, my congregation, using a stop watch during the Bible highlights, to make sure the comments do not exceed 30 seconds. This of course, is under the direction of the "Slave".

Yes, that is one of the reasons, I was always so miserable at conventions. I think when conventions were more than three days and you could volunteer in food service, there was more of a chance of meeting someone. Now, all volunteering is done through your local congregation. And for the sisters, it's cleaning the ladies room. No, chance of meeting a man in there, not the kind you want to go out with anyway.
Plus, dating for marriage, puts so much pressure on a couple who are just starting to get to know one another. Oh, well, I can't handle dealing with all that another year. Hopefully, no more conventions for me.

A Responsible Discussion on Ray Franz's Role in the Lives of Former JW's
by AllTimeJeff insince it was learned that ray franz went to the hospital and then passed away, most threads have in my opinion, correctly tried to give some honor and respect to a courageous, honest, and principled man.. some borderline trolls, who know many former jw's are easily upset (and they know this.
i know this...) try to take advantage by hitting on a hot button.
in this case, its to call you a follower of ray franz.. we all know that isn't true.. but i think that a legitimate discussion on this is in order.

Honestly, I never heard of Ray Franz until I came to this board. I'm still in the process of reading "Crisis of Conscience". When I first started reading it I had to stop, because it was too hard for me. And it was touching to read that it was hard for him to write.
And when he left the organization, I was still in elementary school, so I was too young to understand all that was happening. I don't think most Witnesses knew or will ever know what actually took place, unless they talk to someone who was there.
And in reading "Crisis of Conscience", it seems he was not bitter and was a very caring and sensitive man. I can only speak for myself personally, I never had an opportunity to speak with him either in person or e-mail. But, what he wrote really opened my eyes, and I can never feel the same way about the religion that technically I'm still apart of. But, in saying that, don't you think that most Witnesses or ex-Witnesses who start reading one of his books, has already made up their mind that something in the org. isn't right? It may be the final piece of evidence we needed to convince ourselves. So, no, I don't think anyone here is claiming to follow or worship another man. I certainly have no intention of following anymore men. But, I do respect the man and all that he endured as a Witness and then, how hard he had it after. I'm sad that most Witnesses will still think of him as someone part of the "evil slave class", when he just was a very good man. And finally, I especially appreciate his sincerity and conviction on doing what he felt was right no matter how challanging it made his life. He had a lot to lose and not much to gain from it all.

Ray Franz Tribute
by besty inover at freeminds we didn't want this day to pass without some recognition of the life and death of ray franz.
in view of his stated wishes not to have a memorial or service we hoped for something that he would have liked for all of us to take a moment over.. .
we owe a note of thanks to v for his graphics work and atjeff for the obituary writing - i know neither of them need mentioned by me.. .
