Some Witnesses won't watch the movie "Avatar" because an avatar is also a Hindu deity. But, I also know a lot of Witnesses that love that movie.

A Better Attitude And World View
by EmptyInside ini've changed a lot in the last year or so.
maybe some for the good, and some not so good.

I've changed a lot in the last year or so. Maybe some for the good, and some not so good. But,looking back, I didn't like myself as a Witness.
It turns me off when I hear about the judgmental comments an older pioneer sister made. Or others commenting about "worldly" people, and so on.
But,then,I have to admit, I was once like them. I used the expression,"worldlings". I judged weaker ones in the congregation. Instead of,trying to encourage them, and be there for them. All I could do was gossip and judge. When I was a pioneer, I was the worst. I am really ashamed of myself for being that way. I thought the "truth" was supposed to bring out the best in people. But,now, that I know it's not the "truth"....
I can live and let live. I don't care who pioneers or who doesn't . In fact, I now, feel young people should have some sort of extra schooling, college or not. And as long as no one is hurting an innocent, it's none of my business what t.v. shows or movies someone else watches or who they're dating,or whatever else they want to do.
I feel I have more empathy and can more easily put myself in someone else's shoes. When tragedy strikes, such as,the horrible earthquake in Japan, and the tsunami. I care about everyone, not just the Witnesses.
I'm a work in progress, but I kind of like myself a lot better as a person now. It may just be maturity too,but I'm more at peace.
And honestly, I didn't realize I was like that. I thought I was more of a liberal Witness.
But, I realized I don't have to worry how others live their life, because I'm too busy with my own.

Wanted to get reinstated... Almost ready to give up
by headisspinning ini'd like to hear from anyone who was disfellowshipped but fully intended to go back as soon as possible and how that worked out or didn't.
i'd like to hear how soon you went back to meetings, how many letters requesting reinstatement you wrote, how you were treated, and how long it took you to get bitter and jaded.... or in the off chance you had a positive experience, what exactly happened.. really struggling here... thanks!.

I'm curious whether or not, you still go to your original congregation. Because I have observed that it works out better if you attend another neighboring congregation. And,even though, you still have to go through the original elders to get reinstated,it seems to work out better if you do it through a new body of elders. Plus,if you still go to the same congregation as your husband's ex-wife,it may seem in poor taste to some. And the elders may view it as a strike against you.
Anyway,as some have already posted, after spending some time on here and doing your own research, you may decide not to bother going back.

"Marry only in the Lord", along with other verses, Jehovah's commands, or Paul's advice?
by miseryloveselders inwt june 1, 2004 pages 22-23. do your circumstances control your life?
i typed the first part and the last part of the paragraph in question so as to avoid the filler.. we too may face situations for which we could be tempted to seek unscriptural solutions.
for example, are you discouraged because you have no yet found a suitable marriage mate?

Well,in two weeks, the Watchtower study is going to be about making the most out of singleness. I always found those articles rather condescending and depressiong.
No, field service isn't a cure to loneliness.
And I was willing to wait to "marry only in the Lord" when I still believed it all. But,since, I no longer believe that this is the one true religion. I'm no longer limited in my choices for marriage. I just wish I hadn't taken so long to figure that out.

But,in answer to the question,no,they are not behaving as Jesus taught. They are behaving as others who have claimed to be Christian have behaved in the past.
Religion should make people better, but it doesn't always. I don't see what this inbred, crazy group hopes to accomplish, but really turn people off to all religion.
I know some don't even believe in the account of Jesus, and I'm still trying to figure that out myself. But, if the account of Jesus is true,so many have missed the whole point of it all.

Condemn the Adulterers Too
by Spade incondemn the adulterers too.
may 21, 2010. from jill carroll, houston religion expert and author.
this weeks' news brought us the story of a catholic elementary school rescinding the acceptance of a child because his parents are lesbians.

Why punish the child for who his parents are anyway?

One thing that makes me cringe,is they make their kids share in this craziness. I saw another group making their kids hand out tracks about the end of the world. And for the first time, I realize how the Witnesses look when they make their children go out in service.
I remember when I was a kid and made to go out in service. Any observer could tell I didn't want to be there.
It's awful having little kids stuck in car seats all morning, and it's dangerous too. Teenage girls going to who knows who's door.
I know this is off topic. But, I just realized how I hate to see parents forcing their children to carry bigoted signs, just brings back haunting memories of a bit lesser kind.

Assembly/Convention Rules
by IMHO injust been reading the resurrected topic "remember when assemblies were fun".. bought back some good memories particularly regarding the 'holiday camps'.. i was going to add this but decided it warranted it's own topic.. the 'good times' have been replaced by incessant rules.
here is a selection from the last circuit assembly i attended.
please feel free to add to the list.. .

Now,they even give rules for after the convention. They want families to stay in their convention clothes, wear their name tags, when they go out to dinner.
