Tribal massacres....history of humanity. Still occurring sad to say. And each and every group is adamant in their belief in their justification.

Another silly Bible story...this time brought to you by Moses
by RULES & REGULATIONS indoes this silly bible story make any sense after you take off your rose-colored glasses?.
moses comes down from the mountain with two freshly made tablets of stone written with the finger of god.
one commandment on the stone tablet reads '' you must not kill/murder.

The urgent, lifesaving work of Jehovah's witnesses......hardly!!
by RayoFlight2014 insince june 2016 i have kept a journal of my encounters with jehovah's witnesses at my door or in my street.
i'm a a nosey bastard and a bit of a home body when i'm not at work so i don't miss much of who comes past my home or knocks at the door.. will and dill.. they came to my door on a wednesday morning around 10:30am mid june 2016, i was on afternoon shift and had been reading bart ehrman "misquoting jesus".. what follows is the conversation as best i could recount after they left;.
of the two young gentlemen, dillon, the younger in appearance introduced will and himself, he then proceeded to present me with a brochure about world conditions supposedly getting worse.. me: i could stand at the door nodding in agreement if you like?

It is so absurd that they are so clueless about their religion and its history, teachings, etc...back in the 60's thru at least late 80's you had to know your stuff.
As for door knockers...I haven't seen them in this neighborhood for probably three or four years....never see them out on city streets ever either. Do they even do house to house anymore? Seems like it is no longer the thing.....that man with the writers inkhorn must be very bored with no foreheads to mark.

District convention to be held in assembly hall instead of stadium
by NikL inlast night they announced that this summers district convention will be held at an assembly hall.. this is the first time i've seen this happen.
there are a couple of congregations in the same hall here and they aren't going to the same ones.
they are having multiple dates.. the hall they are going to use can only hold 1500 people max.. just wondering if maybe they just couldnt get anything bigger this year or if the falling numbers are playing a part in this decision.

Growing up in the religion the high point of the year was the city/hotel/stadium thing...that was your summer vacation. What a boring syndrome to take that away. But...$$$$$ talks. Also they are downsizing.....sell offs of property, condensing congregations, etc....no more big conventions.... Got a kick out of the comment about the negative effects of a young adult trying to find a partner within the limited groups at small assemblies....inbred dilemma.... Crazy cult.

Seeking advice
by Mizalisa ini'm not a jw, nor was i raised jw.
for the past three years i have been involved with a man who was raised jw, who at first told me he no longer believed as they did, but who, it has become clear over time, has not told his family or religious community the truth.
he has strung me along for years, never introduced me to anyone in his life.

Three years stringing along says much. You have a life to be lived...he needs to come clean and if he truly does not want to be in the religion he needs to get real and honest about it. He sounds conflicted and that is not a good thing. Do think this relationship through carefully.....wishing you the best.

Why can't they just come clean and accept their responsibility. Their internal workings obviously are detrimental to justice and ethical behaviors in these abuse situations. They could make their religion look a lot more respectable if they would bite the bullet and call on proper legal, law enforcement and social service agencies to deal with such cases. Their shroud of arrogant secrecy does little to commend them as godlike or Christian.

Reinstatement/dating

Disentangle yourself....move on. Live your life. Those "elders" really have no authority over you....but if you allow them to dictate the terms of your life...that is on you. Don't waste precious time dancing around trying to please them. Not only is it completely unnecessary, it is damaging to you psychologically and emotionally. As for your lover...sounds like he needs to man up and decide where his heart truly lies.

Article: Telegraph-JW agrees not to show son religious cartoons because of risk of 'Emotional Damage'
by AndersonsInfo inhttps://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/06/11/jehovahs-witness-agrees-not-show-son-religious-cartoons-risk/?wt.mc_id=tmg_share_fb.
a jehovah's witness has agreed not to show his son religious cartoons and has been banned from taking the six-year-old to some church events because it could cause him "emotional damage".
the man is embroiled in a family court dispute with his estranged wife and has been barred by a court from taking the little boy to jehovah's witness assemblies, annual conventions and memorials.. district judge malcolm dodds also said that the father had agreed not to show his son "jehovah's witness cartoons", a decision he described as "wise".

Yeah....she got fed up with the whole thing and divorced. She got the kids but was left in a bad money situation so had to take the factory job given she had no skills or education from pioneering prior to marriage. But she wised up and realized she needed to make a better life for them so signed onto an online degree program. She made it work! Another success story. And Caleb and Sophia grew up happy and mentally healthy despite a rough start in life.

The biggest mistake.
by Half banana ina long time ago, before television radio and films, before printing, before the invention of writing, people listened only to the spoken word—and the cry of birds, the wind whistling through the trees and the sea crashing on the sea shore.
before written text they knew about the gods because high up there in the night sky was where they lived; gods, goddesses and immortal heroes.
the constellations told of their exploits.

Pete, your observations about the bible are piquing my curiosity. For years after our departure from the cult my husband would continue to read the bible...the book of Daniel especially fascinated him...I bought him some erudite expositions on the book which I too found fascinating. But I could not read or consider the bible as a whole due to being so soured on it by the cult. I kind of wish I could detach sufficiently and see it from your perspective. Interesting thread here.

Cringe in December
by neat blue dog inoh boy, the meetings lined up for december are culty.. it all starts with a 5 minute talk someone has to give on the topic "why should we not be troubled by the increase of memorial partakers in recent years?".
the next week again inserts jws into bible prophecy, first with "the earth swallowed up the river", which claims that court victories for the org are really god's doing.
there is no mention on who is responsible for the many judgements against the org.. then there's this chart to be discussed that same night:.
