3rdgen says it all. the religion is total hypocrisy....back in the day they used to marry kids off way too young and inexperienced - don't know if this is still the norm or not - but those marriages were very very shaky typically and ended badly. if the kid had the right connections they'd be able to exit the bad marriage gracefully - otherwise not. i do remember one woman - this is back in the early 70s who decided her husband wasn't "spiritual enough" so she managed to alienate him - he left her and eventually did the sex deed freeing her "scripturally"....and she took up with a newbie, and married him. he became an elder and was a horror show to her kids....abusive, etc.....but, yes....some women and likely some men too decide that they would like someone something else, so connive to get out of their existing marriage. too bad they can't just be honest and say this isn't working - let's split amicably.

Do the KH's get any use at all here in the USA? Waste of space and property if they never go back to actual reality meetings....I'm really far out of the loop...but I cannot imagine that if the pandemic parameters beome done and over with that there would be a mad dash to the hall for "sweet association".... Seems the lemmings would prefer the remote thing....but who knows.

Is it because of Pride or Loyalty?
by joey jojo inin a recent effort to entice me back to meetings, an elder friend gave me the example of his dad.. he said that his pioneer/elder/ex-missionary dad went through the anticipation and disappointment of 1975 and yet, he kept going faithfully for decades afterwards.
the obvious point was that, if his dad can deal with disappointment, then, surely a nobody like me could do the same in regards to the scrapping of the 1914 generation doctrine, and all the other changes.
his 'encouragement' was to tell me that it was only me that felt like this, everyone else is fine and have no problems with the changes.

I totally agree with the pride factor....it is a bitter pill to swallow to admit you were wrong and wasted so much time and energy in an insipid daydream....
Case in point...I know of one elderly, now deceased, who had been in jail during WWII for neutrality....over the years recognized some of the flaws but was loath to admit them....but expressed that personal dilemma...admitting being locked into something for a lifetime and realizing it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Some can get loose and free...others never manage to...
The human condition is fundamentally flawed and those flaws are exploited by power hungry individuals or groups. Individual responses vary....

I seriously would avoid any meetings with "elders". That would only add to your current turmoil. You need to immerse yourself in your career, interests, and friends outside of the cult. I hope it is an option to move out of the place with your mother....far more healthful mentally and emotionally to be independent and not living with the religion on any level. Stay busy and do things that bring you happiness. Put the crazy religion out of your mind as much as possible and gradually it will become just an unsavory memory. Best to you!!

What do pioneers do if there no house to house? Sit and write moronic letters that likely will never be read or dial phone numbers and leave stupid messages that will be deleted? And I gather the hourly requirement is significantly less than the olden days 100 a month.....plus 100 mags placed...7 progressive studies.....forgot the number of return visits demanded.... Whats the point?
