i apologize if this has been mentioned, but i don't have the time to come on here as often.

yesterday's bookstudy on divorce got my shorts in a bit of a knot.

apparently, according to the god's love book, a wife could consider legal separation from her husband if she is physically abused, but (get this) only in the case of extreme physical abuse, and if the wife's life is in danger.

I have heard stories LIKE this numerous times before...where a situation that the elders SHOULD have handled properly ended up needing to have the CO get involved. But, unfortunately, that is exactly what happened to ME...when the elders botched my abuse case, the CO got involved personally, and the more that came out of the wordwork on HOW the brothers were NOT properly dealing with my ex (despite all court documents proving him guilty) - it was the cruel things the CO said to me in the end that was the final STRAW. That is when I made the decision not to go back to mtgs and haven't since.

Corruption is SUCH a strong word...but when you really LOOK at how things happen and how JC's really don't handle things properly (and w/o loyalty to each OTHER or to their own egos) you see just how corrupt things can get.

Congratulations on taking ACTION!! That is exactly my point...I really believed that no matter what my 'fellow JW' did to me, that it needed to be kept INHOUSE and that taking legal action against a JW was the equivalent of drinking a glass of blood = WRONG!!!!! I knew of and witnessed numerous couples in congs where the man was a tyrant. Dude had some low paying manual labor job, they had more kids then they could support, he was 'gunning' for a cong title (MS or eleder), and he was mean to his wife...and yet he would climb the spiritual ladder, all the while, his wife look slike she got run over by a truck at every mtg. So back then - that kind of relationship was acceptable. Didn't help that my own parents were dysfunctional, my father was emotionally/verbally abusive and my mother is emotionally disturbed (and codependent).

OF course when it happened to me, and I had the chance to either take a stand against abuse or let this JW walk away as if nothing happened, I decided to take a stand and go to court. WON too!!! I don't care who knows what he did to me, I don't care if every JW that has ever known me or knew OF me knows what happened - I can rest at night knowing I said "ENOUGH" and was not about to let any other person (man, elder, parent, friend) abuse me. You need to recognize the POWER you gave yourself girl!!!!!!!!

How Many Here Actually "Studied" The Publications?

when i was a teenager i extensively studied nearly every publication.

i especially enjoyed looking up the root words meanings in the hebrew and greek of the bible language.

it gave me the flavor of a word and its origins.

I have to admit...Never....ever......EVER cracked open a yearbook my entire life! I honestly don't find that kind of stuff encouraging (no offense) because I could never relate to any of the stories! Always felt like they were 'extra' in my opinion.

As for the Watchtower and Awake mags, well, I'm a natural born salesperson!!! So I could look at the covers, flip through, find a 1/2 interesting article that I figured would appeal to others, and then literally 'sell' (in a figurative sense) the mags into peoples homes!!! I remember the Watchtower was the ONLY magazine I would study thoroughly...underline, read the scrips, write them at all angles around my mag to reference if I commented. HAHAHAHAHAH!!!! Such a dork. all the other pubs, if we didn't study them during the mtg, I didn't read em.

Question about not shopping at thrift stores

I specifically remember being told that JWs DO NOT shop at 'thrift' stores...as there was this nutty fear that the clothing could be demonized and/or the store could be funded by some other religious organization. But NOW - please - I don't know 1 JW that doesn't shop at the thrift shop and BRAGS about the deals they find....

Shoot...I don't care where someone gets their clothes!

*disclaimer* this was posted on a 2 year old thread and a friend suggested i start a new thread with it to introduce myself.. .

i discovered this site by accident when i was actually looking for a site to date ex jw's (probably because i know that we could relate and if they were as repressed as me growing up, they would be as horny and kinky as i am if not more so - yumm!).

i also believe that he will take care of all things in his own way.

OH! I didn't know it was THAT kind of 'site'.....WOW! -hahahaha. I just thought I could post about getting the 'boot' OUT the org - but hey, if it results in some lovin - who am I to argue with THAT! He DID say he was really horny (aka - a freak!!) didn't he?

But I cannot believe Jehovah is supporting the congregations that abuse His name and His trust. I also believe that He will take care of all things in His own way.

Your story made me cry...because everything you said hit 'home' with me! I too agree with you in that I do not blame Jehovah for all that has happened to me and I still love and BELIEVE in him and that ultimately he will step in and "correct" all that has been wrong with this world AND in the org. I remember the last thing I said to my parents was, "NOBODY will ever convince me that Jehovah - my God - thinks that the way I have been treated is acceptable or needed." Being DF'd/DA'd and completely shunned like you're trash....elders yielding their power over people...the gossip and lies the cong makes up...it's all NOT how Jehovah would want his people to act.

i did it 20 years ago, but the elders still remember what i did, sometimes i wish they never knew about it.

I also agree with whomever said that pulling young people (under age of 18) into JC's and having their PARENTS as witnesses there to hear every little details is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo disgusting. I'm sorry!! As an adult it's traumatic enough, but a kid....ugh...I can't imagine.

For me, it was a necessary part of my path out of the JWs. I needed to know I had tried it "Jehovah's Way" (tm). Too bad it took half a lifetime to see it for what it is.

I couldn't have said that more beautifully!!!!! After everything blew up in my life, I just felt that I HAD to confess...of course I honestly believed that Jehovah had pulled his Holy Spirit from me (although 'good' things were still happening to me) and that if I didn't confess, i would NEVER be able to serve him wholeheartedly. I will admit - confessing EVERYTHING I had ever done really was freeing in a sense. Only because I finally didn't have to carry ALL that crap on my shoulders anymore - but it was painful to have to divulge so much personal stuff to 3 men who had no idea what emotional state I was suffering in. Fortunately, the elders on my JC didn't ask personal questions like I've heard MANY stories of them doing to others...but 2 of the 3 elders 'had it out' for me as it was, and although i specifically ASKED that they not be on my committee - of course they were both given my life in their power and BOY did they take advantage of that. Both said some pretty harsh and cruel things...which is sad, because when someone comes forward they are typically at their lowest point and the very last thing they need is soemone beating them down even more. Thing is, had all of that nonsense NOT have happened, I would still be 'in' the org and living a double life is sooooo tiring. NO longer have to worry about that now!
