  Had a date with a 7th day adventist last night

  i had a date with a seventh day adventist, was interesting to compare childhood traumas.

  the best was her stories about the day she let the jw's in the house and her dad whipped out his bible and had a "discussion".

  i told her imagine having to dress up like a funeral director and walk around with the dubs... i got a sympathy kiss out of it... lol.

  I'm new and wanted to introduce myself

  hello everyone.. i'm new to this forum.

  i left the organization several months ago, and am on a new path now.

  though i didn't grow up in the organization, i have basically lived a life of pretending to be something i'm not, sheltering my feelings from everyone, and not feeling "enough" to anyone.

  Why is it so hard for Ex-JWs to make that "final step" and give up Christianity?

  i'm not sure if it's just denial on a lot of people's part, but the reason the jws doctrine is so wacky and controlling is because they are among the few religions that really try to follow the bible!.

  the bible is the culprit here in actuality, but even after someone has "wizened up" to the misguided teachings of jehovah's witnesses they still hold the bible as inspired word of god.. why don't you believe that the governing body was chosen as the faithful and discreet slave in 1918?

  because the only real evidence to that fact is that they say so.

  "final step"? you mean that leaving christianity is the end? how about leaving religion?

  People are lazy, we are lazy. We like others to do the work for us. Thats why many are still JW in the first place. They let the WT to give them their food. Some leave cuz the food many times tastes rotten but then they just change restaurant.

  Is hard to change habits. A Bean and cheese burrito is still a bean and cheese burrito even if the mexican restaurant is different :-)

  Fear also prevents many to question their beliefs. Christ is way too big for many to question. He must have existed because the bible say so. But did he? Who really wrote the bible and when? Who is God really? How do I know that? ... Nah too much work. Happy easter everyone.

  Yes they are! What are you talking about. He listens to ALL the prayers around the world and when some other elders suggest him to appoint other men he does. HE LISTENS to the suggestions of the other elders because he appointed them after all.

  Sometimes I wonder why does he need other elders to suggest more elders. perhaps he is too busy listening to prayers of the other people so he has his little helpers. I wonder if they can read minds too.

  long time, "big shot" elder, ....taught at km school, conventions, etc.

  yeah, i know it means nothing....but it gives you an idea of how deep i've been a jw.. i don't even really know what to write at this point.

  Welcome, take it easy and slow. Do not take rush decisions right now. Read, read, question, research and repeat. It will take time. and a lot of pain but eventually it will pass. Question everything you know. Dont jump out of the boiling water to the fire.

  Use your mind and thinking capabilities, and keep your emotions under control.
