I don't believe in the WT's version of the devil nor its vengeful angry Jehovah God for that matter. Lilly

Why wasn't there anyone as nice as you guys in my KH?
by Little Imp inwhen i first started attending the kh i was newly married and had moved to a new area over an hour away from my nearest family and friends.
i was excited about going (believing it would be similar to churches i had attended in the past) and thought it would be a good way to make new friends.. how wrong was i, no-one seemed to have any personality or sense of humour.. i tried inviting people round for a meal, boy that was an uphill struggle and i lived to regret it.. now, though i haven't met any of you, i feel as i though i know you and would feel totally comfortable in your company and would have got on like a house on fire if we had had a meal together.
the strange thing is all of you have or still do attend a kh and are sooooooooooo different.. discuss.

imp,
I wondered the same thing once I broke out of the borg. I kept waiting to meet all the evil, devil worshipping apostates and worldly people who would devour my soul like the WT says but have yet to meet even one! Been out 7 years and have met many nice caring people who are more concerned about me and my family then anyone I ever knew in the hall. My family was in the same hall for a decade and we could not count on one hand even any real friends who were a support to us in any way.
As a matter of fact, while in that hall my brother in law passed away at only 38, which was devastating to my hubby and both my parents died of cancer and NOT ONE member of the kh sent a card, called to see if we were ok or offered any support. WHY?? because none of our relatives were JW's! They acted as if their deaths did not matter at all.
Most of the witnesses I knew were mean spirited gossipers a who were only concerned about themselves. I even had an elder's wife hang up the phone on me after I told her I was thinking about hurting or killing myself. She lived across the street and didn't even bother to walk over and see if I was ok. I also had 2 young kids home at the time.
I think JW's become very hard hearted and disconnected with all reality and people after they are in the borg for a while. Its too bad really and very sad situation. Peace, Lilly

"Jehovah Unmasked" by Nathaniel Merritt Now Available as Free PDF
by BabaYaga ini ordered this book and read it a few years ago, and it resonated greatly with me.
i don't agree with all of it, but i haven't found many books that i agree with 100%, particularly those dealing with the bible.. i have recommended this book before on this forum for those questioning the logistics of the bible (genesis in particular) and i have just discovered that nate has offered the book now as a free pdf.
(incidentally, nate used to post here at jwd/jwn a few years ago, but that was before my time.).

Thanks for the link. I downloaded it, am off work this weekend and will read it.
I sort of glimpsed it quickly and I see Nat experimented with a few christian religions as I have over a 30 year period myself. I am still a Christian and bible believer although I have an entirely different perspective on the bible as I used too. But I am COMPLETELY anti religious institution.
I think religion is a way to control the masses and I agree with Russell who said "Religion is a snare and a Racket". Too bad Russell's followers did not hold to this view. If they had the Jehovah's Witnesses Monster of today would not exist.
Anyway, thanks again. I love getting different perspectives and know I will enjoy reading this. Peace, Lilly

How Being a Witness made you Lose out on Higher Education and Careers
by flipper inhi, folks.
been thinking of this, because of having been raised in the witnesses.
i reflect back on opportunities i would have encountered and seized, had it not been for being controlled by the witness organization being told higher education was not needed.

I was fortunate to have gone to school prior to becoming a witness. I have a BA in Business and currently work in the nursing field. My hubby became a witness while in the military and did not re-enlist after 8 years. I was unhappy with this because he was on his way to becoming a chief petty officer and he put in so much time, having joined right out of High School.
He never went to college until a few years ago. He took a job as an office Manager at a charter school in boston. They paid 1/2 his way thru school and now he has a degree in Business too. Btw he graduated at 43! Just got a big promotion and bonus.
I think its never too late to learn something new. I am currently enrolled in theology courses and would like to become a spiritual councelor and/or chaplain. If I get my chaplains liscense I can stay on but in a different capacity with the company I am with now which is a local visiting nurses. Lilly

Essay: Beyond God and atheism: Why I am a 'possibilian'
by BurnTheShips inwe have many interesting debates and discussions on this board between members on both sides of the god/nogod divide.. most of us seem to be quite reasonable, and accept and respect differing points of views.. others, a small minority here, dismiss the opposite side as deluded or evil.
it strikes me that it takes a large amount of mental certainty to do this.. we all have reaped the fruits of such certainty in these matters during our sojourn in the jehovah's witnesses.. this essayist, neuroscientist and fiction writer david eagleman, takes a different view.
as you know, i am a believer in god.

I am Christian, but not a young earth creationist proponant and I did not find the article offensive at all. I actually quite enjoyed it as I am also always open to hear about other "possibilities". Thanks for sharing. Peace, lilly

Anyone a Practicing Catholic?
by lovelylil2 inif so, would you mind helping me gain some information on catholic beliefs.
i left roman catholicism when i was a teen but have been researching the beliefs and practices of all the major churches and this is the one i am working on now.
there is a lot of conflicting information out there both for and against the church, as with all religions i guess.

Thank you so much BTS, You gave me lots of great information.
Also thanks to Libella, Man in Black and Black sheep. I appreciate all the help. I am going to look at all the information more closely tomarrow because I have the day off. Also will visit the websites.
The reason I am especially interested in the Catholic church is my entire family is Catholic and I was raised a Catholic. But, I am realizing fairly recently that I really never fully understood Catholic beliefs and practices. I think its because my parents were not really practicing Catholics.
And of course when you become a witness, you are part of a group that HATEs the Catholic church more than any other churches. Its funny though how many JWs were once Catholic!
I remember Amazing Jim. He tried to convince me that the trinity is biblical and I gave him such a hard time. Funny thing is now a year later, and I am a Trinitarian. I'm sure he would get a good laugh at that one. I guess I just had to come to the conclusion that the trinity is a valid teaching on my own.
Thanks again everyone, peace to all of you, Lilly

I like tea a lot, especially earl grey but I LOVE my coffee more. My favorites are flavored brews like hazlenut and french vanilla. My hubby bought me a Kurig single cup coffee maker last Christmas and I use it every day! I love the taste and the smell of coffee. I drink it before work and as soon as I get in at the end of the day. Been drinking it since age 11, am 41 now.
