You can get DFed for any damn reason they please. End of story. It's always been like that. If they want to DF you, they'll find a way to do it. All they need is the urge, not any evidence or scriptural backing. The "brazen" change simply puts what they've been practicing for decades into writing.

Could you be DF'd for holding hands during prayer?
by dissed inyes you can, if....you are brazen about it.. as we were disciussing on another thread, inserting 'brazen' for 'loose conduct' in the new elder handbook, can open a world of excuses to disfellowship someone.. just read between the lines of this new, 'expanded explanation'.. "elders, are you tired of ones defying your authority?
ignoring your counsel?
countering your illogical reasoning on beard growing, showing affection during prayers, etc....then embarrassing you infront of others?

Did you ever know any JW's/Pioneers who frequented popular nightspots and got drunk?
by James_Slash init used to make me sick at these hypocrites.. they would be at the meeting the next day or out in field service, obviously still intoxicated from the night before but putting a show on before the congregation.
i knew a couple of girls who would be regulary doing this over a weekend yet they would be pioneers all week, answering up at the meetings yet would be heading into popular nightspots and coming home at 4am drunk.
their dad was an elder (surprise, surprise).. i remember telling an elder about this once.

I only knew a couple who would go out and drink in pubs/bars/clubs, but I knew plenty of young people who would get together and drink at home, at the beach, in the woods, at the drive-in, etc. I was in a circle like that for a brief period of time. I think most Witnesses are scared of the club scene due to being so socially-stunted, so that never seemed to hold much appeal, at least in my area/circle.

Do You any Witnesses that Just Married Someone Because they Came From A Prestigious Family?
by Pitchess Co-Gen indo you guy know any witnesses that married for privilege?
for example the lowly male publisher married the c.o.t.b.o.e daughter and quickly move up the ranks.
another example is that the witness girl that only date or marries up( only dates m.s,elders,ex-bethelites,or pioneers ).. .

Witnesses share the same crummy reasons for marriage that plenty of "worldly" people have. I knew Witnesses who married for looks, socioeconomic status, materialism, prestige, equal "rank," etc. The ones who married for "spiritual" reasons were very rare. I don't think Witnesses are any different from other groups in this respect.

This is why I haven't left JW's yet
by XPeterX inmillitary service is compulsory here.no way i am ever going to join the army.so...i will serve as a conscientious objector by using the jw thing as an excuse and once i am done with that ta daaaaa i will finally leave.. .

Funny the way opinions change. I once would have fully agreed with you on this - now I regret that I am passed the age that would allow me to join the military and serve my nation.
You can, of course, serve your nation in many other ways. :)
OP: Makes complete sense to me! I suspect you wouldn't be the first to do that. Just be sure you don't leave the JWs the day after your CO time is up, otherwise you'll probably raise some red flags...

New elders' manual - a few more details
by sir82 inper a recent boe letter:.
-- new manual will be softcover.
-- elders can keep their old elder manual if they choose.

1.) Softcover - this is PERFECT!! An Elder shouldn't have a hardcover of the elder's manual, as it's too rigid to carry around all the time in your coat pocket, etc. But a soft cover edition - you can keep that on yourself practically all the time!!! It's flexible, and with it being soft it's like a quick mini-reference with all of the hand-written direction in it.
Remember those miniature "pocket" NWTs that were all the rage at one point? Maybe they should do the same with the manual!
My grandmother used to call me "brazen" whenever I did something "bad," like changing the channel while she was watching "The Price Is Right" or combing my hand through my hair after she'd brushed it. I have a feeling that most "brazen conduct" offenses will be roughly equivalent to those in terms of legitimate sinfulness.
Also, does anyone else ever secretly wish they would release a few "decoy" additions to suspected apostate spy elders? Or that they somehow had a way to trace leaked copies back to the elders that shared them? Not that I actually want these good elders to get in trouble, mind you -- I just think it would be hilarious if they were to fully go James Bond instead of merely pretending like they currently do. Come on, GB, commit already! It's like they want so very badly to be a secret society, but they're too stupid to pull it off properly.

His DC event is drawing a huge crowd, today.
Yeah, but at least 25% of that crowd is liberals there to gawk. Hell, I'd have gone if I were in the area. (There's been some great live-tweeting of the rally from liberals on the ground.) It'll be interesting to see how Fox News reports the numbers versus how other outlets do.
As far as active Dubs liking Beck goes, I just can't see it. He's too political and he's too adamantly against social welfare programs. Also, he expects people to have an active interest in history, which most Dubs don't unless we're talking about "history" as told by the WTBTS. If anything, they'd probably see him as fulfilling prophecy in a negative way.

Marking - How would you know if you were marked?
by Lady Lee inwere you ever marked?.
i'm pretty sure my family was marked.
it was never announced.
-
Palimpsest
Marked and had the infamous talk about me. Like palmtree67 said, my name was never given because they could never prove I'd actually done anything. It was silly.
And how did I know? Because the talk was clearly about me, right down to the anonymous "experience" about a young woman who had done all the things they alleged I'd done. And everyone in the Hall knew it was about me, and they made me feel like dirt because of it. Basically, you are found innocent or get your charges thrown out, but you are still treated as guilty. Almost like being on a Nancy Grace special, in a way...

They can't understand how I can be so inactive and yet such a good guy.
by Wasanelder Once ini've been faded, inactive, for 6 years or more and the witnesses i know are astounded that i'm not in trouble.
they don't say it but its on their minds.
i do the things thier "brothers and sisters" don't do towards them.

I have very limited contact with active JWs since fading, but yes, they're always in awe that I'm not addicted to drugs, working in a strip club, married to a cheating wife-beater, on probation, etc. The idea that I'm actually really happy and living a fulfilling life completely blows their minds. I sincerely think they believe I'm making it all up! And it completely destroys all of their "come back to us" arguments. I have a great social life, I do a lot of volunteer work, I feel valued in my community, I am self-supporting, I have healthy personal relationships...all of the things they promise to give you, I already have. So...oops. :)

New NBC show "Outsourced". A slap in the face?
by Mythbuster ini think it's bad timing, not going to be deemed "hilarious" by the many unemployed who lost their jobs due to outsourcing and is not going to last long given our current economic climate.. http://www.nbc.com/outsourced/.
the nbc forum for the show where folks are not so happy.. "outsourced" is a comedy where the midwest meets the exotic east in a hilarious culture clash.
the series centers on the all-american company mid america novelties that sells whoopee cushions, foam fingers and wallets made of bacon -- and whose call center has suddenly been outsourced to india.

I find it bizarre, but for a slightly different reason. NBC executives have said at promo sessions that one of the main reasons behind their desire to get this show on the air is that they want to tap into the booming Indian viewing audience in the U.S. They think they're guaranteed high ratings because there are no other Indian-themed shows on the air, so they assume every Indian-American family will be watching.
Except...the Indian community isn't all that excited about it, because -- at least according to articles and interviews I've read -- many of them take it as an insult to think that the only representation they can get in the U.S. media is as help center employees. It's not really showing Indian culture; it's showing American culture using Indian actors. So it doesn't seem like they really thought this one out.
My guess is that it will have high early ratings due to the curiosity factor, then level off, and then die a quiet death. I don't think they'll cancel it immediately because they won't want it to look like they caved to criticism. But hey, maybe it'll shock us all and become the next big thing. *shrug*

How do people that are reinstated overcome the resentment
by troubled mind inwhat if you were df'd for along time ,say over 10 yrs ,and you were totally shunned by family that whole time .
do you ever come to terms with the resentment of how family treated you ?
has anyone here successfully got back in just to gain family ,and then faded or never got active after that ?
-
Palimpsest
Something I always noticed was that most reinstated people in my Hall, at least the adult ones, tended to hang out together. I wonder if that was because no one else was accepting them or if it was because they still didn't really believe but just wanted to act like they did. Maybe it was a combination of both. Either way, once you were DFed in my Hall, you never really overcame that stigma. I imagine that's true of most congregations?
