  back in the 70's, that particularly self-congratulatory phrase became fashionable fair here in the uk.

  i remember my dear old dad trotting this out when her ladyship and i got married in '73.. talk about a bucket of cold water!

  a real 'spectre at the feast' comment if ever there was one!

  Englishman,
  I was born in January 1976, so if I may ask you a question. When you married in 1973, did you ever think, my marriage could only last two years? Or did you already know the 1975 thing was a hoax, and completely disregarded it?

  The reason I ask, is my dad once told me he althought never a JW, thought during 1975 when my mom was pregnant with me he would never see me born. Thanks in advance for your reply.

  Yoyomama,
  Who has time to go to Mexico and Malawi and get those political cards? Ray Franz published documented facts and the Society has never once denied those published facts. If you ever get around to reading Crisis of Conscience, you can look in the references to see the corespondence that the society has with the JWs in Mexico and Malawi.

  Life experiences in the Jehovah Witnesses

  i have a interesting story, and i can't believe other jw's cannot open their eyes to the destruction that this organization can perform on a family.

  i was raised as jehovah witness, all of my younger pictures would show white knuckled clutching a pink book called paradise lost, paradise regained.

  i couldn't read yet, but the beautiful illustrated and colourful pictures drew me to it being my favorite book.

  Well, as far as any pointers goes, I could suggest another web site for you. This particular site got me over the hump so to speak.

  In it there are two chapters, "Its hard to change-the watchtower view," and "Its hard to change-a personal view." Another chapter titled "Now what" is a good one.

  As far as the family staying together, constant comunication is always key. I am just starting a family, so I am afraid I can't be much help here. I can only wish you the best, and I hope you come back frequently. All I know is life is better on the outside, but trying to convince somebody of that can be hard. First, one must want to get out of the JWs in order for it to happen.

  Baptismal Questions - why the change?

  i was baptized on march 17, 1974. on that day, i answered "yes" to both of the following questions.... 1 have you repented of your sins and turned around, recognizing yourself before jehovah god as a condemned sinner who needs salvation, and have you acknowledged to him that this salvation precedes from him, the father, through his son jesus christ?.

  2 on the basis of this faith in god and in his provision for salvation, have you dedicated yourself unreservedly to god to do his will henceforth as he reveals it to you through jesus christ and through the bible under the enlightening power of the holy spirit?

  In western Europe, the litature is to be kept in the inside pockets, right? It is only for brothers? LOL. Anything they can do to get away from the, "oh, we are not book pushers" bit. Too funny.

  I just finished reading your story, and it is much like so many of us here. My father took his life because of the JW religion. Like you, I wish the rest of the JW would wake up to the facts. Anyway, welcome, and I hope you hang around.

  He will eventually see the value of the literature. I do not have to push it on him.

  And if he doesn't see the value of the publications? Then what? In the end, you will try to put a Watchtower publication in his hand. Weather he takes it or not, you will try, won't you?

  So in the end, you will...peddle literature.

  Cannot understand without the organisation

  just in case any lurkers here may be in doubt about the criticisms made of the witnesses' idolizing of an organisation, here is a selection of their claims, in their own words:.

  Russelites did in fact exist. When Rutherford took over control of the Society, the ones he expelled continued to follow the beliefs of their late leader, Russell. I doubt any of them are around anymore. They would have all died by now.

  So let me get this strait, he can become baptized as a JW without ever studying a piece of JW literature. That is the whole point of having a Bible study with a JW. Am I right?
