  This is a sore subject for me too, although I don't blame my parents. I blame the Watchtower Society, for pounding this subject on JW families at the Sunday meetings. Here is one of those Bible scriptures they loved to pull out as an example for raising children the right way, Jehovah's way.

  "The rod and reproof are what give wisdom; but a boy let on the loose will be causing his mother shame." (Proverbs 29:15)

  And then there was that song (involving reproof) that I can still hear, "He says use the rod." Thanks for nothing Watchtower Society, with friends like you was, who needs an enemy.

  well im back from my " relaxing trip to the coast "........ and apparently wile i was gone my jw father in law stepped up his plan for total jw world domination .

  he has now officially threatened me with dfing .

  and informed my wife that by my continued association with a disassociated person i am placing myself in jeopardy of changing my inactive status into a situation that needs to be handled in a judicial manner.

  Gotta feel for ya man. I am so glad I did not marry a JW chick, because the one I had a crush on and could have had, had a Cong. Secretary for a dad. Keep on fighting!

  JW marriages: happy/unhappy

  i've been wondering how many jws have gotten married too quickly, without knowing their prospective "mate" well enough, and have ended up really unhappy.

  it always seemed to me that a couple would be dating for, like, 6 or 9 months and get engaged, have a 9 month engagement and be married; often because they bought the "no sex before marriage" garbage.

  i'm sure that there *are* happy jw marriages out there; and certainly being unhappily married isn't the sole property of jws.

  JT, sounds like you have the perfect answer to the unhappy marriages and why.

  What I love is if a young couple admits to being engaged and later break up, the Elders get involved, because to them and engagement is like a "trial marriage." I know this is true of a couple of Publishers who got engaged, and later before any definite marriage plans were made broke up. The Elders got decided to have a "shepherding call" to try to make sure they broke up for good reasons. Hey Elders, my answer to that would have been, "None of your damn business."

  I just thought of something else.

  I asked this question once while out in service and this was the answer the car group decided on. Since stopping the Earth would destroy all life on it, and the Sun clearly does not revolve around the Earth, so how did Jehovah make the "Sun stand still." Although not supported by the Bible or Watchtower, the car group decided... DRUM ROLL PLEASE...

  PERHAPS THERE WAS A GIANT MIRROR IN THE SKY, OR SOME SORT OF COMET THAT REFLECTED THE LIGHT FROM THE SUN TO THE BATTLE.

  Ah yes, that's it! Mystery solved!

  Even though I have never been, it looks like I have not missed a thing. I think seeing the video they did in the early 1990s regarding life at Bethel was enough for me. I would love to 'hear' more comments/experiences on this.

  Okay, I guess I deserve that. Allow me to re-ask the question:

  If I remember correctly the Earth rotates at roughly 1000 miles per hour, so if the Earth was stopped from rotating for 1 day, wouldn't all creation ON EARTH be thrown to the East at 1000 miles per hour? (See Newton's laws for gravity/motion.)

  did it bother you to see new born babies go to the kingdom hall?

  only a few days/weeks old, and already at the kingdom hall.

  the baby crying throughout the meetings.. at what age would it have been reasonable to bring a child to his first meeting?

  Did The Elders Always Talk With You "In A Spirit of Mildness"???

  jw's, are as a rule, self-righteous pharisees.

  they were the first to "report" you if they believed that you did something not up to standards.

  even if you started "thinking" a certain way that might be considered "worldly", you might be talked to by 2 elders to "readjust you in a spirit of mildness.

  I think the Elders tried to be mild and to respect me. Don't they pretty much have to be?

  Think about it, if all the Elders behaved like crazy men, it would get around. Don't forget what a rumor mill a Kingdom Hall is. If they were ever caught screaming down a Publisher, it would be bad. Other Publishers would loose respect for the Elders and those with "little faith" would leave for sure. So of course the Elders as a whole try to handle things with a "spirit of mildness."

  On a side note the only two times they became nasty with me was at the end of my relationship with them and they must have figured I was leaving. The thought must have been, "get him to leave before things get ugly."
