Do you agree that, if there are errors in the bible, then it's all wrong?
by JH inin other words, if you can find a few errors in the bible, will you throw away the whole notion of the bible being "inspired by god".
example: if you find any error in the bible, will it take away the notion that killing is wrong, or stealing is wrong, .
so where do you draw the line, and accept certain biblical teachings and reject other biblical teachings?.

Thanks for sharing. I've never seen Craig's show, and I liked his message. Britney Spears is turning into a slightly less creepy version of Michael Jackson.

Remember how great the get-togethers were in the 1980's??
by PaNiCAtTaCk ini remembers skating parties at least once a month, volleyball at the park, get-togethers where everyone would play bible charades and sing kingdoms songs, going to the river to swim with the whole congregation after the sunday meeting, spending the afternoon at the lake eating watermelon and water skiing.
it was a great upbringing!
also, i dont want to leave out the strong feelings of eliteness that i had even as a child, of having the truth.

Does anybody else remember when the Society told all Kingdom Halls that such activities as Pot Luck dinners, Skating and Swimming Parties could no longer be announced from the Kingdom Hall stage? The Society made it clear the Weekly Announcements was for discussing literature placements, need for contributions, and other Kingdom activities only.
For my Kingdom Hall, that was the beginning of the end of what few fun times we had.

Happiness is starting a thread on happiness and having many happy people reply sharing their own happiness...
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/120108/1.ashx
I love happiness threads...
Happiness is having your wife wreck your car and having all the parts except a radiator and lights on hand. Then getting a check in the mail for the price of the car and fixing it up yourself. (I made money due to somebody else's mistake! Oh and the wife is fine except for a bruise on her stomach.)

The New World Translation is a Mess
by Amazing inthe new world translation (nwt) contains thousands of serious errors.
the following regarding john 1:1, one of the most noteworthy verses to jehovah's witness and ex-jehovah's witnesses alike, provides a case example of how and why the nwt cannot be trusted.
there some few scholars that translate the word was "a god" or "a god" or "divine" but they are in the very low percentages.. in greek john 1:1 says: "en arche en ho logos, kai ho logos en pros ton theon, kai theos en ho logos.

The first sentence of this thread was "The New World Translation (NWT) contains thousands of serious errors." After that a long-winded discussion mainly about 1 verse has ensued.
So what about the other "thousands" of serious errors. (I actually have considerable doubts about whether there are actually "thousands" of errors in their translation that could be considered "serious".)
Jeremiah 29:10 is plainly botched, replacing 'for' with 'at' to skew the implication of the 'seventy years'. A consideration of the context of chapters 28 and 29 invalidates their translation.
So that's 2 serious errors (though I don't care about John 1:1 either way). We just need at least another 1,998 to validate that claim of 'thousands'...To echo what Jeffro said... Okay, we can all agree "thousands or serious errors" is not accurate. So are there hundreds of serious errors? Are there tens of serious errors? Can we truly say if there is more than a handful of errors, serious or not? There will never be a consensus on a discussion like this, because as already pointed out, the target is a moving target. The ancient texts are flawed, because they are all hand copied and altered, so that really makes this whole thing an excercise in wasting time.

My Bethel Experience final chapter
by new boy inthere were other people who either killed themselfs or tried to kill themselfs while they were at "the house of god.
one person who did kill himself was richard wheelock, press room overseer ......he jumped out of a window at the watchtower farm one day.......it seemed, he was never quite the same after his wife "willy" died..she seemed to be the only one that he could relate to.......which would make sence.....because he sure couldn't relate to any of us in the press room..........he would come over to our press and say "here is the work... get in out".......then just walk away.......he was not the type of person you would really want to talk to anyway......but wouldn't it be nice if just now and then, like every year or two, they might ask you how you were doing?.........you laugh.......but its true......i asked a friend of mind who was the press operator of press # 6 which at the time was one of the three biggest presses at bethel.
he had been in the press room for 4 full years.

Show me the money
by onacruse inmany accusations are made, freely and (imho) frivolously tossed about, regarding the monetary motivations for various and sundry wts policy/publication decisions.
i have myself made many such statements.. however, if i was pressed to provide evidence for any of these accusations, i would be embarrassingly empty-handed.. interpolations, insinuations, circumstantial evidence, et.
al., aside: what irrefutable evidence is there that the wts has ever made a change simply and solely because of financial considerations?.

It's tough to aquire proof of their financial decisions when their books aren't open for all to see. So we're left to ask, why would Watchtower do what it does? For most of us, leads us to speculate the answer must be power or money. If there is any real proof that could hold up in court, that would be great.
Here is what we're left with since about 1988...
The reduction of District Convention days from 4 to 3
A special day assembly replaces on of the 2 day assemblies each year
Congregations that share the same Kingdom Hall building
The donation arrangement replaces the mandatory contribution for all literature (to avoid the complication of sales tax?)
The end of food service at all assemblies / conventions (avoid sales tax?)
Paperback books and Bibles replace hard cover books and leather bound Bibles
Bethel Layoffs
Awake printing goes from 24 issues per year to 12 issues
Fewer new books in recent years (I can remember years there was 2 new books for the JW home library)
Revelation Book studied again (Is it too soon to study the Creation book, Greatest Man, or Daniel book? Is there nothing else on the shelf to study?)
And now the new Watchtower Magazine arrangement (which again is an obvious cost savings measure)
So what are we to believe all these things have in common? Could it be money? Maybe? But who really knows for sure... One thing is certain, this isn't exactly how I imagined Jehovah speeding up the work when I was a JW.

Will the WTBTS come to an end?
by pierogi incults come and go so do you think the wtbts will eventually come to an end?
i think about this sometimes and i wonder if i will live to see it.
the reason why i want it to end is because i don't like the administration.

Tax evasion maybe, or perhaps a slow death due to most of the young ones realizing how false their religion is. How soon is "Armageddon is coming soon" when there are 5 generations of JWs before you?

The Governing Body and the Anointed
by greendawn inaccording to jw theory all those taking the memorial emblems are part of the body of christ and therefore should participate in the status and functions of the anointed.
if we are to say that some of these "anointed" are just fruitcakes or spiritually immature, what about all the rest?
why are they so invisible, nowhere heard or seen contributing to these anointed functions?
-

Onacruse, I know you are playing devil's advocate when you said this...
greendawn:
I know the GB (and previously the WTS presidents) are power lusting pigs
And your evidence is?My answer is this... James 2:24 (NWT) "YOU will see that a man is to be declared righteous by works, and not by faith alone." This discussion board is full of injustices committed by the GB who [by works] prove they care nothing for their followers, only their own power do they care for.

The New World Translation (NWT) contains thousands of serious errors.
Has anyone ever cronicled all of the errors in the NWT? I have no doubt John 1:1 was altered to fit Watchtower theology. I mean, hell, they don't have a problem rewriting history to support their theology, so changing one scripture isn't beneath them. But what other serious errors are in the NWT?
