  17 To illustrate: The Scriptures at times speak of “the congregation” as taking certain action in handling judicial matters. (Matt. 18:17) In real terms, though, it is only the elders who take this action in their capacity as representatives of the congregation. The elders do not contact all members of the congregation to ask their various opinions before they make a decision. Theocratically, they perform the role that they have been assigned; they act on behalf of the whole congregation.

  Is this even true? I thought that everyting was decded as a whole congregation. From what I have read "Elders" didn't have near as much power as the WTS makes it out to be.

  Funny thing about this is the fact that this guy hasn't did anything about the "Troof" in quite a long time

  Yet they can often be the strongest defenders.

  Question on Christmas Lights

  in the jw world, is there a difference between christmas lights and chile lights?.

  chile lights are the same damn idea, but they are used as a party decoration all year long.

  She loves snowmen but laments that snowmen decorations are up only at Christmas time

  We have a room decorated year round with snowman, and almost everyone has to make a wise crack about secretly celebrating christmas, probably because they really want to.

  I have often wondered why I couldn't put up white lights. Some JWs go through great lengths to make the house more dreary at Christmas.

  So when is Christmas time? I can have a snowman up on January 1st, but not December 31, how about November 25th?

  This is rhetorical, I know the answer.

  Sadly, a witness would never reason like this because they risk contradicting the slave.

  And you know the answer too.

  Too bad they take being "no part of the world" so seriously....or out of context, depending on your view.

  Can You "Read" People?

  misery wrote on a thread how those of us who were born into the jw religion were taught how to read people.

  we learn how to look for their weaknesses, their joys, what seems to be troubling them, what their yard looks like, etc.. do you have this ability, in all honesty?

  i am told that i have that ability and it freaks people out sometimes (in a good way).

  JWs Come Home...do they need to try this approach?

  it looks like the catholics are trying to bring lost members home.

  would this approach work with jws?

  i can think of some it may work on, but not me or most.. is this more useful to those that simply don't attend anymore, or those that have converted?.

  do they only count you if you are not inactive? Just because the congregation still has your records, you are not counted in the 7 mil, right?
