  hey everyone, i want to apologize for not rtesponding to a number of messages i recieved over the last month or so.

  i took a break as suggested by someone else to try and sort things out and clear my head.

  my wife has been reading alot on here and kept me updated on all the fun that has been going on!.

  This part sounds like my story. My have much reason to believe my father has tried to get me DF'd last year, but no one from the congreation showed up.

  " The brothers in my congregation have not called once or stopped by or sent em a text message, yet they lie to my father and tell him I refuse to contact them or return their calls."

  I have also found it better to walk away. You could say I faded, but I have been honest with my family. Only my father took the attitude yours has.

  To my knowldege I havenot been disfellowshipped, but I put up holiday decorations, got one letter, ignored it, (not registered letter)

  I don't have time any longer to care about what they think, I have a son to take care of first.

  growing up in the south everyone i knew believed in god, even the.

  town drunk.

  i remember watching some special tv program around xmas .

  I agree Giordano, where I live in the American south Atheist is just shot of a swear word.

  Most people here would be more likely to call themselves non belivers or simply lie.

  I rewatched the video for another reason and caught the statement that sounded like they bought the property just to support Warick.

  the first time I was under the impression they had this property a while and was wondering why I had never heard of it Before.

  Caleb,s I was wondering how much the bethel volunteering is going to drop off when they don't have access to the city.

  I live in the south also, north Georgia if you are curious. around here the second thing most people ask after meeting you is what church do you go to.

  so I also don't remember meeting any in service.

  after I left the JW mindset, I set out a a journey (in a way) asking people at work about their church, and researching other mainstream Christian beliefs.

  that path led to me research how the bible came to be, as well as read real scholarly work on evolution. This led me to a place of non-belief. At that point I actively sought out a atheist group to meet and talk to them directly. There are not many groups like this, but I live close enough to Atlanta that the group is fair sized.

  A couple of the folks I met have turned out to be really good post-jw friends. including several ex-Mormons so we have similar stories to share.

  Old Jws view on old Societys books

  i was asked to come by and get some old pictures and stuff that my cousin who died left with her non jw husband.

  he had two boxes of old pictures my aunt had left to her daughter(my cousin who died after her).

  i went by another cousin who is still a jw and left the boxes of stuff that my aunt and cousin left when they died.

  My MIL collect the old books, she probably has everything ever printed by now. yet she doesn't read any of them.

  There was on out, i don't remerber which, but one of the "Studies" set, I was looking through it, My FIL saw me and said, "That basically the same as we tech today, no different."

  Yeah, right.

  i've made a few comments here and there on the lovely jwn i started to wake up to ttatt this year.

  basically, i'm a born in jw and was baptized at 16. lived a double life until i wa 25 and beat myself up about it constantly.

  Surprised the Jephthah account was not rewritten

  Other biblical commentators5 disagree. Though Jephthah was one of the Israelite judges, he was chosen for the position because of his bravery and might, not because of his Torah scholarship—indeed, he was woefully ignorant.6 And though he was not bound whatsoever by the vow he made—as it clearly transgressed the rules of the Torah—he ignorantly went ahead and offered his daughter as a sacrifice.

  Had he only consulted with Phinehas , the learned high priest of the time, he would have been informed of his error. But that didn’t happen. Jephthah was too arrogant to travel to Phinehas to receive guidance: “I am the general of the Israelite forces, and I should go to him?!” And Phinehas was too proud to unilaterally go to Jephthah to advise him: “He needs me; why should I make the trip?”

  The hubris demonstrated by these two leaders cost an innocent girl her life. According to the Midrash 7 both were punished. Phinehas lost the divine spirit that had hitherto rested upon him. Jephthah became ill, and he lost many of his limbs. Because his limbs were buried in many locations, the Bible says that Jephthah was “buried in the cities of Gilead.”8
