We are so used to driving in this city that I bet people from easily 70 miles around will drive instead of using a hotel. That makes up a huge amount of people all all the suburbs around the city.

Atlanta International Convention Hotels Not Being Filled Up!
by James Jackson inthis week our kh devoted the whole service meeting to the upcoming international convention in atlanta.
they read a 5 page letter from the branch which stated basically that we should feel priviledged to be invited to this convention.. however, many are not using the "recomended lodging list", "many hotels still have plenty of rooms available", "we must be loyal to this arrangement", (or the organization will not get their comp rooms)..

The GA dome has two big hotels attached to the adjoing world congress center. Were thoes on the official list?
My In-laws from Winder have decided they are too old to drive downtown and are going to Knoxville with family instead, I wonder how many are opting out from driving downtown and parking.
Also Atlanta has many nice hotels that people will stay at for a mini vacation, maybe a lot of folks are chhosing other hotels for that reason. I'd sure stay at the Westin even if it wasn't on the list. (not that I'm going).
I'd love to know where you are from IE what areas appear to not want to go downtown. PM me if you like.

This seems to lend to thoes theroies that the org is heading to more Circuit assambly hall usage with video and less local speakers.
Also, more push to a cult of personalilty with GB.

by sparrowdown insince finding the meetings too morally repugnant to attend (coupla months now) i have.

the thought bubble over my head read "oh poo, poo and double poo!!".

I have a freind that was accused of being "too smart"
My own mother tried to agure the JW point of view quickly gave up and wanted "someone smarter" than her to talk me. Graned my mother is not a deep thinker.
I also know several very intelligent people in the org, I don't understand how they stay in.

SOME are MORE EQUAL than OTHERS
by oppostate ingeorge orwell's animal farm reminds me a lot of the wt organization.
often we find jwn members quoting from 1984, and so appropriately too.. but animal farm has the pigs being "more equal" than other animals in the farm.
what started as a "congregation of brothers" if it ever really was that in the russellite beginings has become a hierarchy controlled by an oligarchy where some, as the governing body, are more "equal", and thus more powerful and can do no wrong by the less powerful and loyal subjects.. .

How many in the cong visited you when you started fading
by joe134cd ini'm just curious speaking from a person who has stopped going to meetings.
i have heard reports from inactive ones (or from ones who the elders suspect of going to the dark side) of having so many visits from elders (cong members) that it got to the point of harassment.
surprisingly i have to say from personal experience and from numerous others that i have spoken to that the exact opposite has been the case.

The only two non-elder visits we ever had was people dropping by while they were in field service.
There were the once a year drop by of two elders leading up to the CO visit. But that only happened maybe three times.
So that is 5 visits is 5 years.

Billy's Comments You Won't Hear at the 01-19-2014 WT Study (7 Shepherds, 8 Dukes)
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite in16-20. we shall also have to raise up against him seven shepherds, yes, eight dukes of mankind.mic.
what is the most important thing that you can do now to prepare for any future attack on gods people?.
all of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not.. .

I'm thinking we may see a day when you have to be pre-approved to partake. Maybe sit in front of your elders for a QandA and review of your time sheets.

Ironic: g73 2/8 p. 4 The Wisdom of Admitting a Mistake
by 4thgen inwhat ya all think about this?
of course, admitting we made a mistake is the right, honest and decent thing to do.
it is also the course of wisdom.

The individual members who become the "SLAVE" are not infallible, but is the "SLAVE" infallible?
data-dog, I would argue that is exactly the perception they are pushing.

The answer I would expect:
If you are referring to the Governing Body, they can't make a mistake, because the term only applies when they are acting as a group with holy spirit, so this shields them as individuals.
But as individuals they can make mistakes, but as individuals they don’t run the organization.
Interestingly the Mormons have a relatable moniker.
As a group they think they really are prophets, so when something has to change they blame the individual and say “he was speaking as a man” and this somehow covers over everything.
