There is a beatuiful sadness to that picture.
Where could I find a larger image? My Google-fu is weak today, and I have turned up nothing.
many years ago i came across this painting in the national museum of scotland in edinburgh.
simply called "hagar" it was painted by andrew geddes in the early 19th c.. i was touched by the sadness of the subject.
at the time i was a loyal jw and my ability to read the bible through a filter that could justify anything was at its peak.. for the first time i was forced to face up to the scandal of how abraham and sarah treated their young slave girl.

in ancient times the easiest way to measure things was to use the most convenient measuring tools available that anybody could afford to own: your own body parts!.
yes, you could use your own foot to measure "feet".. you could use the width of your thumb to measure an inch (call it by whatever name you like.).
what you really needed (necessity) was to invent your own proof!
I don't see it.....but i guess that is your point.
Good write up Terry.
for those unaware the memorial has no scriptural basis.
of the 12 men at the last passover not one of them ever said or wrote jesus said "do this in remembrance of me" matthew said jesus blessed the bread and wine and gave the bread and wine to his apostles.
we have paul saying jesus said those words and the writting of luke which everyone needs to read and find out what's missing in his account.
Another interesting note:
I looked up Luke 22:15-20 on Biblegateway.com and every english bible there says "This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me." only the NWT says keep doing this" Even this does not seem to be fitting a repeating patteren, the context sounds like it was only supposed to be done once.
Is this more of writing the bible to fit a doctrine?

but do think that really means eating and drinking somehthing literal? Or could it just mean all things we do we would do for Him?

I have never paid enough attention to this to notice before. I went back and looked at this for a moment. So it seems that no one who was actually with Jesus at the last meal, ever mentions that he said to keep doing this. Only those who only had oral tradition passed down to them? Is this right?
If so that really changes things. I wondered many time why there is no mention of anyone in the early congreations having anything that resembeled a memorial meal as we know it today. Is that becuse it didn't really exist, or was Paul just sayaing to remember every time you had you regular meal, meaning you should always be thinking about Jesus?
I really need some talking points.
Also, I have asked why it matters so much that they get their memorial in on the smae evening if day is sunup to sun down, why try to cram 4 congreations in to rented facilities just so it can be on the same night? There is no biblical command for when it needs to be done (if you want to accept Pauls story) at any certain time frame.
Comments please!

i can't go back!
you can never go back!!
not all of us have an answer. I did view eariler, but can't post from my phone.
I do have a comment though.
I look at it like this. My wife doesn't even try to look at the picture. She has been told there is no dolphin, so therefore she doesn't want to try to see it.
i went to the dentist today, fearing i had a mouth infection and expecting to be given a prescription for antiobiotics and sent on my way...but noooo, the dentist says one of my wisdom teeth is rotten and pulls it out right there and then!
he said i was very calm and did well but i feel like somone's hit me in the face with a hammer.
have any of you had a wisdom tooth out?
All 4 of mine. went to an oral surgeon. wouldn't do it any other way. It really pays to research who you get work done by, and i you don;t like them go somewhere else. I had a root canal done recently, it was completely painless, which was a new experince for me, even in regular filings. This person just does endodontics, nothing else. Just need to find the right person, for me, that is usually a specialist.
I have to agree with the premise of the article, however I do believe it is the quality of high schools in the USA that is the cause of so many who are unprepared for college. There are also many worthless degrees out there, and we only need to many lawyers and MBAs.
The USA is losing the tech sector so fast because of this. Collage graduates are responsiable for the CDC techs working on protecting us from H1n1, and despite all the hype around Bill Gates he didn't write any of the 50 million lines of code for vista. If high schools sent kids to college with decent math and science skills there would be more oppertunities for these students.
