What movies make you think of the Borg?...
by Hecklerboy ini was watching a great sci-fi movie the other day (chronicles of riddick) and there was a phrase in the movie that jumped out at me.
a soldier was being promoted and he said the phrase "obedience without question, loyalty till underverse comes".
i thought "wow, just replace underverse with armageddon and that sound just like the witnesses".

Is Organized Religion Something You'd Be Involved In Again?
by minimus indo you believe in christianity, the bible, god-----or are you in the "i'm not sure what to think" class?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!
I do believe in a Creator but am not sure if he is active in the universe today.
Altho I do believe in synchronicity and I'm not sure who/what controls that.
I believe Jesus was a great spiritual man, one of many, but not divine, etc.
I believe that churches were originally set up as businesses and became great money makers by using fear and guilt.
Almost everything religions teach has to be based on faith. None of it can really be proven. Some people need that belief system to cope with life. And the world may be a better place because religion is what keeps some people good people.
I've decided that to love my neighbor (so to speak), live a decent life, be a good person and live for NOW is the best I can do. If there is a reward for that, great.....if not, oh well, I guess I wont' know the difference.
But in case I decide all of the above is wrong and I want to go to a church for the social aspect.....I would go to Unity or Unitarian/Universalist. Thats the great thing about not being a JW....I can think for myself and change my mind without it being the end of my world as I once knew it.
End of sermon.

Dr Laura
by AuntieJane ina lady caller (catholic) today who married a df'd jw.
she called dr. laura because the grandparents put their beliefs in the little 3 year old's head...not going to heaven because she isn't a jw, etc.
dr. laura, in true fashion, said that the lady who called was irresponsible because she 1) should not leave a young child alone, unsupervised, with people who are filling her head full of "stuff" that they don't agree with; and 2) because they are hostile to her husband, the df'd jw.. she blasted the lady who called about leaving her kid with these grandparents.

Sphere,
I meant to say that they WOULDN'T STAY IN ABUSIVE, ETC. RELATIONSHIPS.
Ideally, there wouldn't be single mothers . However single mothers and divorced mothers are two different things.....soooooooo for those of us who refuse to make our marriages work, then we should make it is as easy for the children as possible not burdening them with our own issues and desires.
Since this is the real world and most people aren't going to follow her advice, then there are going to be divorces....in those cases her advice applies.
I guess I should have went into more detail but I thot that I was covering various scenarios that are discussed on her program and how much better families would be if we followed them.
Some people would not think of her as mean but as straight forward, pulling no punches, not pussy-footing around and trying to get people to wake up.
Have you heard all the calls she gets from people who say they were offended on the first call, thot about it, applied the advice and it changed their lives for the better.
She and Dr. Phil are pretty much in the same category...he also offends some people but he seems to be helping a lot of people and getting the job done.
Most people just dont want to hear the truth in black and white, they want to do what feels good to them regardless of what it does to their family. Of course that is a generalization and I am sure yo don't fit that category. But generally one HAS to be extremly blunt and to the point to get a person's attention.

Well, lets see....if everyone took Dr. Laura's advice............
there would be no single mothers,
couples would stay married and raise their own children,
women nor men would stay in abusive, addictive, or adulterous relationships,
couples would actually get to know each other BEFORE they were married by dating for at least 1.5 yrs.
divorced parents would maintain a good relationship for the sake of the children's relationship with their parents, provide stable homes by not bringing in new boyfriends, girlfriends and their kids to confuse the whole family issue for the children.
women would not try to fix men after they are married, but find a good guy in the first place...hmmm need I go on?
She may sound moralistic and judgemental but this country is morally bankrupt and someone needs to stand up for what is right!
And I have never heard her say anything good about JW's...in fact, when I was still active I was very offended about how she talked about JW's....guess she knew what she was talking about there too.
IN MY NEVER TO BE HUMBLE OPINION......
Additionally, her son in now in the military, Marines I think and she worked while he was in school and was home when he came home.
I am now stepping down from my perverbial soapbox and wait for the throwing of darts at this post, with all due respect of course.

FREEDOM. FREEDOM.FREEDOM. I've been out for 2 yrs after 32 years of slavery. The two things I noticed the most was the freedom from guilt and from fear. When you know the truth (about JW's), the truth does set you free. Life is too short to waste it doing what an organization tells you to do, too short to never feel like you are living up to their standards, and too short to be a slave.
Good luck! There is life after JW's.

If This Isn't A Cult----What Is It????
by minimus inthe organization teaches that we leave everyone and everything else behind when we join christianity (also known as the "truth").
your father, mother, brother and sister all have to be given up to become a "real" christian.
friends that you grew up that are not of the same religion must be abandoned.

When I first left, I couldn't bring myself to call it a cult....after all that meant I had been taken in by a cult and I thot I was too smart for that....then I read Steve Hasson's book on CULTS AND HIGH MIND CONTROL. I was sure the religion fit in the class of High Mind control. As I read the book I would read a characteristic of a cult....think to myself, "We don't do that!" Reflect a little deeper and say"Oh yes we do!" Maybe a little differently but we still did the same thin as the moonies, etc. and I believe that if the WTS told us to drink the Kool-Aid, most of us would have done it.
So now I can say with great certainty and convictioin that> JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES ARE A CULT in the truest sense of the word and thank the powers that be that I am out and free.
