Once I thought I was a mature christian. Hahahaha...
Sometimes I'm dead serious. I hope it doesn't make me a grown-up... at least before 2050. Then my kids will be over 50 and I'd like them to tell me I'm still crazy. The same way I'm now.

I don't want to die.
by paul from cleveland ini've been conditioned since childhood that i'm going to live forever.
i'm having a hard time contemplating the fact that i'm going to die.
i'm so afraid of death that i can't enjoy the life i have now.

Paul, I felt exactly the same for many years. After that, life has been good in many ways. Sometimes I tell people that I lost Everlasting Boredom (the wt deal) but got a Life. Of course, it is not that simple and I think that I would like to live (this life) a bit longer than I probably will. Another thing has been that as born-in JWs we were not at all prepared to handle permanent loss, e.g. of health or of close family members, and I have felt this very deeply at times. But I have learned to live also with that like many other writers above tell they have. Also, as JWs we were not free from worry: We were all the time afraid of, by failing to obey the rules of the wt game, loosing our so-called everlasting life.

The world has ended again. Seven millions soon dying have never (really) lived.

It's 2010 - 96 Years since 1914 - Once Again WT Society's Failed Predictions
by flipper inray franz saw it.
but the normal rank and file jehovah's witness doesn't have a clue as to how many times the predictions of dates allegedly marking the " end of the world " have come and gone without realization or fulfillment.
here is a short summation from ray franz's book " crisis of conscience " for those who were not aware.. on pg.

I would expect the Society may first fade out 607 (that year is dangerous), but they still need to keep 1914 since their self-proclaimed authority in many ways rests on it (incl 1918 etc) and, after all, something did happen in 1914. They might leave the rank&file jws in the impression that the 607-1914 calculation (to be mentioned in footnotes only) perhaps had been just over-enthusiastic... but 'predicting' 1914 was 'food in time' but with a bit too much spice in it.
Another point of view: As well known here, Russell taught that the 6000 yrs of evil ended around 1874 and that even some technological advancements of the time were related to that. With the same logic: During the last 100 yrs our life has got so much better that perhaps it is due to Christ's reign since 1914...

Is the Bible Really Scientifically Accurate?
by FreeAtLast1914 inthe society (and others) love to quote job 26:7 where it says that "[god] suspends the earth over nothing" and isaiah 40:22, where it speaks of "the circle of the earth".
they use these scriptures to boast about the incredible scientific accuracy of the bible, proving god had a direct hand in everything written in it.. the trouble is that elsewhere in the scriptures, opposing views are put forth explaining then-unexplainable physics and geographical notions.
one is job 26:11: "the pillars of heaven tremble.

The Bible is not scientifically accurate and it was not even meant to be. Many statements in the Bible are plain wrong scientifically, examples given in the neighboring thread do-you-accept-all-of-the-bible-as-being-100-truth and elsewhere.
In his infamous statement "All scripture is..." (2.T.3:16) St.Paul made a misjudgement. It is understandable that he did: He was misguided by indoctrination that had begun in his early childhood and continued in the jewish theocratic ministry school of that time... as diagnosed by an educated outsider, Festus: "Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad" (Acts.26:24).

Does The Name "Jehovah" Bother You?
by minimus inif you believe in "god" do you avoid using the name "jehovah"?
even if you don't accept a god, does using that name "jehovah" disturb you in any way?.
-
DrJohnStMark
I do not need to hear that name too often. When at school, a gang of other other kids repeatedly attacked me shouting "jehovah jehovah..." When I tried to escape shouting the same name I was not heard because they were so loud, and thus I got beaten up.
Those kids were true christians and their parents were members of a major christian church. Of course, they may have had other reasons to dislike me, not just my being a jw. It did get easier after relocating, thanks to my father's new job, but I remember I avoided using that name, except at the kngdm hll (fill in the vowels the way you like), I avoided using it even on my first postings to 'apostate sites' long time ago.

Since Leaving The "Truth" Is Your Life Better?
by minimus inyou are told that if you "go back to the vomit" of the world, you will be miserable.. is your life better or worse since you've removed yourself from the organization's hold?.
-
DrJohnStMark
A difficult question. I feel that only since leaving the truth TM I have had a life.

Jehovah does not live by his own rules
by sinis ini find it mind numbing that jw's and religios in particular never see this.
jehovah is the patron god of the jews.
yet he treats them like utter shit, worse than slaves.

sound like an atheist. I've been hanging out with a lot of them lately and a lot of them are ANGRY with the God
I cannot be angry with the God and I cannot hate him/her. But I do despise the God of Bible because of his supposed or recorded actions and neglects in the past and in the future. The whole concept combined with what we can see here on earth is absurd. Fortunately.

Do You Accept ALL Of The Bible As Being 100% Truth?
by minimus indo you believe the bible is unfallible, unerring and totally accurate?.
do you believe the bible is a "good book" with much good about it but not something that should be totally believed?.
do you not believe in the bible at all as being "god's word"?.
-
DrJohnStMark
Thanks, superpunk. The wt society says "the bible is not a science textbook but it is correct in what it says about nature." Here it is not. Here the bible is absolutely wrong.

1. Kings 7:23 is another favorite of mine (and probably well known here): And he made a molten sea, ten cubits from the one brim to the other: it was round all about, and his height was five cubits: and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.
So the Bible claims that the value of pi=3. In that verse we thus have a statement in Bible that is absolutely wrong. It was wrong back then and it is wrong now, and it was known better in other nations in the time of writing. And there will be no new light coming in this issue.
Has the wtBtS society tried to explain this issue on the value of pi (I do not have the Insight book available)? I'm asking just to get a good laugh.Hmm... the Einsteinian space might be curved such that the geometry changes. Maybe Jehovah's mighty presence with all his energy in the temple caused a space-time bend in the temple, so that the circumference/radius could be so much less than 3.14159... Unfortunately, the strength of the gravity required for such a bend would have crunhed the whole city, so nobody could do the measurement. Perhaps there was a black hole in the ark? Just kidding...
