It's kind of like belonging on/to the Island of Misfit Toys, isn't it. Speaking the truth, though, always helps, especially when encountering an active jw, or coming to a place such as this. When they knock on your door, invite them in. And be nice. String them along. It'll be like pouring hot coals on their heads when they finally figure out who they're talking to.

WHY DO ELDERS LABEL THOSE EXPOSING ERROR AS APOSTATES?
by Fernando infirst topic posted - sorry if it is a bit too long.. why do elders accept this absurd teaching of demons: "anyone rejecting what is not of god, is rejecting god"???.
evidence that these elders - not their victims - are apostates (wolves, weeds, the man of lawlessness, the antichrist, practicers of spiritism).
having gone through extreme adversity and consequently deep spiritual waters our family has come to understand apostasy to fundamentally mean the following:.

There are seven things that idenify an apostasy.
Number 1......The real apostacizers accusing truthful ones of apostasy.
#2.................Pose as God's special people, with no salvation possible outside, with claims of exclusive knowledge
#3 ................Development of a strong organization
#4.................Worship of the organization
#5.................Claims of divine revelation
#6.................Weapons of excommunication developed
#7.................Threats of divine wrath on non-believers

Why is that word used? It is very old. Comes from Sanskrit and means, "to descend?"
In Hinduism it has reference to materialized angels who had affairs with human women.

What do you think will happen to cause an exodus or at least push JWs into further obscurity?
by the_dude_abides ini believe someday it will be as obscure and strange as say the russelites.
the meetings will only be attended by ppl over sixty or so and it will hardly be considered anywhere near as significant a religion as it is today.
i wonder what will begin this process.

How about if the pope resigned the papacy to become president of the wtbt$?

Does the Watchtower KNOW they are using mind control techniques?
by finding my way ini've read a few other threads about cult mind control as well as steven hassans book comabatting cult mind control.
i also read a thread questioning the watchtowers motives.
are they in it for the money or what?

It's a good one isn't it. Between the wtbt$ intransigence when it comes to admitting error
and the human proclivity of acting like sheeple, it says a lot. It's not called Babylon III for nothing.
The governing body and college of cardinals have much in common.
They both have one that rules. Then there are the appointed bishops, do's, co's, etc.
Picture's pretty clear. And then there's the organization book and catechism.

70 years = 607?
by allelsefails in70 years of captivity?.
i myself have always believed that when archaeology disagreed with the bible the bible must be right.
that is how i dismissed the idea that jerusalem was destroyed in 586/587 bce.

Can anyone provide wtbt$ "studies" that examined Biblical records to arrive at 607 from the beginning? It seems that they only thing you ever heard were statements like, "reliable Bible chronology confirms 607........" Never any serious pre-607 number crunching, or post for that matter. The only thing they could do was add and subtract 2520. Anything else I think they considered numerology.
As to the 70 year thing, 70 is one of several repetitive numbers. And if Cyrus/Persia was used to bring down Babyon I, and was a type, then.....

The Calf-Path
- One day, through the primeval wood,
- A calf walked home, as good calves should;
- But made a trail all bent askew,
- A crooked trail as all calves do.
- The trail was taken up next day,
- By a lone dog that passed that way.
- And then a wise bell-wether sheep,
- Pursued the trail o'er vale and steep;
- And drew the flock behind him too,
- As good bell-wethers always do.
- And from that day, o'er hill and glade.
- Through those old woods a path was made.
- And many men wound in and out,
- And dodged, and turned, and bent about;
- And uttered words of righteous wrath,
- Cause 'twas such a crooked path.
- But still they followed - do not laugh -
- The first migrations of that calf.
- And through this winding wood they stalked,
- Because he wobbled when he walked.
- This forest path became a lane,
- that bent, and turned, and turned again.
- This crooked lane became a road,
- Where many a poor horse with his load,
- Toiled on beneath the burning sun,
- And traveled some three miles in one.
- The years passed on in swiftness fleet,
- The road became a village street;
- And thus, before men were aware,
- A city's crowded thoroughfare;
- Each day a hundred thousand rout,
- Followed this zigzag calf about;
- And o'er his crooked journey went,
- The traffic of a continent.
- A Hundred thousand men were led,
- By one calf near three centuries dead.
- They followed still his crooked way,
- And lost one hundred years a day;
- For thus is such reverence is lent,
- To well established precedent.
- For men are prone to go it blind,
- Along the calf-paths of the mind;
- And work away from sun to sun,
- To do what other men have done.
- They follow in the beaten track,
- And in and out and forth and back,
- And still their devious course pursue,
- To keep the path that others do.
- They keep the path a sacred groove,
- Along which all their lives they move.
- And oh how the wise old wood gods laugh,
- Who saw the first primeval calf!
- Ah! many things this tale might teach -
- But I am not ordained to preach.
- Since then three hundred years have fled,
- And, I infer, the calf is dead.
- But still he left behind his trail,
- And thereby hangs my moral tale.

Time to analyze the BCS again. What a joke. Let's just imagine, leaving out those important entrees from Ohio and Michigan, he he he, and that Ala/Fla/Tex go undefeated along with Iowa, Boise and Cincy. Who's supposed to be #1? Or even better, they all stumble and we wind up with about a dozen teams with one loss. Reminds me of the NFL owners debate, for at least 10 years, about whether to have instant replay to get bad calls right. But now that the Fed is monetizing the deficit and gold is liable to go to $7000 and everything denominated in $$'s goes into the tank, and everybody gets sick from taking the swine flu shot, I suppose it doesn't much matter.

Whenever you hear Heb 10:24-25 quoted, pipe in with, "Meetings aren't always beneficial."
1Cor 11:17-19 "In the following directives I have no praise for you, for your meetings do more harm than good.
In the first place, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you,
and to some extent I believe it. No doubt there have to be differences among you to show which of you have God's approval."

Kenyan-born Obama all set for US Senate "Kenyan-born US Senate hopeful, Barrack Obama, appeared set to take over the Illinois Senate seat after his main rival, Jack Ryan, dropped out of the race on Friday night amid a furor over lurid sex club allegations.
The allegations that horrified fellow Republicans and caused his once-promising candidacy to implode in four short days have given Obama a clear lead as Republicans struggled to fetch an alternative.........."
