Happy birthday and your son has my TOTAL gratitude. I think when I reach milestones like 50, "Thank God. I made it and am alive!"

Terry. your story touches me deeply. I am so sorry about how alcoholism has affected you and really hope your father finds sobriety and serenity. I was truly hopeless and lost cars, families and jobs. I got a sponsor and 3 months later the compulsion suddenly left and touch wood has never returned. Your Dad is suffering from a mental. spiritual and physical disease for which there is a cure. If the cure is not affected then the ONLY outcome for the practising alcoholic is insanity or death or both.

God Created Man Through Evolution
by maputo95 ini tend to believe that the book of genesis is allegorical and not historic.
the first part including the flood is a creation story similar to many others, although the jewish one has distinct insights into man's relationship with god.
another literary device employed is anthropomorphism or personification as in the talking snake, aka satan.

Avatar. I love your share and this response is the type I was originally after. My problem is that I have limited intellectual ability but a great interest in philosophy and theology. My knowledge is very fragmented but I know that Jung thought a late Catholic doctrine on Mary's assumption matched his own ideas. I love the simplicity of the 12 Steps of AA and I am fascinated by L Ron Hubbard's work although he borrowed from 100s of others. I think I believe in the fact we are souls which occupy bodies and if we can learn philosophy which will improve our lives and others' lives NOW then that philosophy is worth studying. Christ's sacrifice to me is symbolic of the fact that if we lay down the material obsession of life symbolised by the cross-beam of the cross then we can go up spiritually as symbolized by the upright beam of the cross.
What I find untenable about JWs and a lot of other religionists is they believe in ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY and TOTAL CONTROL of their destinies if they follow the WT and the fact they turn a blind eye to all other philosphies and beliefs.

Legal action against the Pope?
by behemot inrichard dawkins planning to have pope benedict arrested over 'crimes against humanity'richard dawkins, the atheist campaigner and evolutionist, is planning to have pope benedict xvi arrested when he comes to britain later this year for "crimes against humanity".dawkins and christopher hitchens, the atheist author, are seeking advice from human rights lawyers as to what legal action can be taken against the pope over his alleged cover-up of sexual abuse in the catholic church.. it emerged this weekend that in 1985 when he was in charge of the congregation for the doctrine of the faith, which deals with sex abuse cases, the pope signed a letter arguing that the good of the universal church should be considered against the defrocking of an american priest who committed sex offences against two boys.. dawkin and hitchens believe he should face criminal proceedings because his "first instinct" was to protect the church rather than the children in its care.. they are hoping to exploit the same legal principle used to arrest augusto pinochet, the late chilean dictator, on a spanish warrant when he visited britain in 1998.. the pope will be visit london, glasgow and coventry, during his time in the uk between september 16 and 19.. this is a man whose first instinct when his priests are caught with their pants down is to cover up the scandal and damn the young victims to silence," dawkins, who wrote the god delusion, said.. this man is not above or outside the law.
the institutionalised concealment of child rape is a crime under any law and demands not private ceremonies of repentance or church-funded payoffs, but justice and punishment," hitchens, author of god is not great, said.. their lawyers, barrister geoffrey robertson and mark stephens, a solicitor, believe they can ask the crown prosecution service and that pope benedict will not be able to claim diplomatic immunity since he is not the head of a state recognised by the united nations.. there is every possibility of legal action against the pope occurring, said stephens.
geoffrey and i have both come to the view that the vatican is not actually a state in international law.

John Doe. The Pope never himself "abused children". The method of dealing with the mainly post pubescent molesters was to send them to psychiatrists which was a compassionate way of trying to free perverts from their compulsions. Unfortunately, this approach didn't work in all cases despite medical assurances from the doctors their patients had "recovered" The remark has to do with the "wilful sexual abuse" of children because the Pope has committed no crime in this respect. So why don't we arrest the Minister for Education here in Britain becuase some teachers "got away with it"?

Let Atheistic self-promotors, Dawkins and Hitchins extend their witchhunt to the leader of 1 billion souls. Arrest a head of state and let them reap the civil unrest which will follow world-wide. They should grow up and get lives

What's a really good movie you'd recommend that most people probably haven't seen?
by A.Fenderson inwhat's a really good movie you'd recommend that most people probably haven't seen?.
my personal recommendation: synecdoche, new york.
it's one of those movies that words fail utterly to capture--which really is the hallmark of a good movie, i suppose.

A really unusual film which JWs would probably object to is "A Haunting in Connecticut". It is a story of a miracle as well as a haunting. It is based on a true story and is brilliant despite what some critics say. I give it 9/10.
