Who picked your bible? And which one do you use?
by cyberjesus insince there are many many translations of the bible, which one do you use?
how did you decided which one to use?.
what research did you do on that particular version and/or canon?

The Bible is a collection of books taken from a large pool of Jewish and Christian books floating around and chosen by councils of the Church, ie Nicaea. The Book of Revelations almost didn't make it and I think Luther wanted it expunged from the canon. The Catholic Church picked the Bible and I use many versions including the Duoay-Rheims with the inclusion of the Deuterocanonical Books. Does the Version really matter? Well, I would avoid the corrupt NWT with its sectarian- influenced tamperings. I love and respect all Christians and am sure we are all "saved" even the JWs although they might just get their "paradise on earth populated with like-minded people as we can realise postulates. Sorry, I did Dianetics 101!! PS, I really respect atheists too! POWER TO GOOD-WILLED PEOPLE!

Spurious Statements by Fry #1:
“It did so at the time: reference was made to Galileo and the fact that he was tortured, for trying to explain the Copernican theory of the Universe” Stephen Fry Intelligence2 Debate:
Galileo was NOT tortured by the Church but treated surprisingly well. He was not prosecuted for his scientific ideas but for his theological/biblical challenges.
Nicolini revealed the circumstances surrounding Galileo’s "imprisonment" when he reported to the Tuscan king: "The pope told me that he had shown Galileo a favor never accorded to another" (letter dated Feb. 13, 1633); " . . . he has a servant and every convenience" (letter, April 16); and "[i]n regard to the person of Galileo, he ought to be imprisoned for some time because he disobeyed the orders of 1616, but the pope says that after the publication of the sentence he will consider with me as to what can be done to afflict him as little as possible" (letter, June 18).
Had Galileo been tortured, Nicolini would have reported it to his king. While instruments of torture may have been present during Galileo’s recantation (this was the custom of the legal system in Europe at that time), they definitely were not used. -

First Spurious Statement in Fry's Speech and there are others:
“It did so at the time: reference was made to Galileo and the fact that he was tortured, for trying to explain the Copernican theory of the Universe”

Fry is a shrill atheist and very anti-Church because of his own sexuality and his ire at the Church calling it a "disorder". He did come out with a few spurious points or simplifications but got away with them in his emotive delivery. His opposition could have been better. He has had an "interesting" life, see any source, incl Wikipedia. I wish him well and am glad he can express his views publically. I am not a fan of his houmour as I'm more a Frankie Boyle fan.

Thank you Lisa. You seem copassionate. Below is original post in bigger font.
My best friend has started going back to meetings after a 30 year disassociation with the WTBTS. His main motive is for Jehovah to remember and resurrect him on Judgement Day. We have played a lot of Bible ping-pong both quoting scripture to bolster our opposing position. My other respondent below has given me advice below on how I should approach my friend. Please let me know what you think of the advice and how I should interact with my friend.
"Your dialogue with D is interesting. Does anyone have to be right???? Surely God's truth and love will set us all free. We know in our spirit and that's all that counts. God will know us by our love. So who cares who is right or wrong. He just wants us to be right with him.
There are many mansions in his kingdom and we are all part of his plan/creation.... So we must all reach out in love and understanding and peace. I remember having many, many conversations with J W's friends of mine...and also S had a lot of friends too...and you just cannot win...they are stubborn in their conviction and quite honestly K, don't waste your time...it's futile...it just makes them more steadfast and gives them more ammunition to argue and 'BELIEVE they are RIGHT".
LET GO AND LET GOD."
