I haven't heard any, only read some lyrics, but they sound scary.

New Songbook: Pedantic Piano Practise?
by metatron inok, the new songbook has gotten rid of some pretty awful lyrics about molested bees and nazarites, etc.
but after listening to several of the songs played at the kingdumb hall, all the songs started ------ to-------sound--------like-------this.
one careful paused note per syllable as if the whole songbook was published to help teach children learn how to play piano.. we can't expect "amazing grace" from these hacks, i guess.

Jehovah's Witness Sunday Meetings
by Cold Steel inwhat can visitors expect who just pop in?.
do they offer communion?
pass the plate?

As far as how they treat strangers, usually very well. It's part of the "love bombing"...they don't tell you that a few years later you may be ignored entirely for weeks on end, because they're either focused on the next new person, or busy with their particular clique.
yknot described how the meeting goes pretty well, though.

New Songs a Trip
by cattails in.
you should have heard when people were singing one of the updated songs.. they've changed the third line's tune and words .. it was almost complete silence as people tried to figure out what on earth they were supposed to sing.. .
do other religions change lyrics of songs like that or is it only jws whose beliefs change and even the songs they sing need updating?.

If you don't mind me asking cattails, why are you still going? Are you attempting a slow fade?

Ladies, MS or Elders?
by asilentone inladies, while you were in the org, did you wish to be ms or elder?
has any conversation take place between jw ladies about this issue ?.

Honestly, I never wanted to be an elder or MS. I just didn't care enough, but maybe that's because as a girl, there wasn't even any point in thinking about whether or not I would like that. However, I totally wanted to be able to handle the microphones as a kid. I was always pissed that I couldn't.

I don't think there is any true religion, no. I don't even believe in God, though.

List of things to do
by doublelife inwhen i was 23 i made a list of things to do before i turn 30. then i thought, "what's the rush?
when the new system gets here i'll be able to do whatever i want.
" so i never paid attention to the list and now i no longer have it.

Yeah, I never actually heard about the girl scout thing until I left and was doing research. We always bought them.
Cool idea, btw, I might make a list, too...

Who really supports "the work"?
by palmtree67 ini've been thinking alot about all the threads here regarding the bethel lay-offs.
i'd imagine that those laid off will have to rely on their families or social safety nets to help them out.. my man is a successful fader, but his family are all super-jw's.
parents pioneering in a foreign land, youngest pioneering where the need is great, oldest sibling is on the fast track to being a co. my man went to university and is in the upper-wage earning tax bracket.

My dad for a while was making a considerable amount of money each year. I don't even want to know how much he was giving them...all the while, feeling like sh*t because he wasn't an elder/pioneer because he was working too much.

Agnostics/Atheists, To Whom Do They Give Thanks?

Good point, cofty. I also don't throw the blame on someone else (i.e. the devil...) when things aren't going my way. I either accept that it's just life, and there is no meaning or reason behind it, or I take the blame myself if it was something I did that put me in the situation.

changeling summed it up perfectly. I would also like to add that I'm often very grateful, but not thankful to any particular person or thing. For instance, it's beautiful out today, and I'm grateful for the sun and the blue skies and the trees, but I don't feel the need to thank anyone for them.

I usually stay away from them, but occasionally I'll wonder in and just be blown away. It's crazy the way they think and speak, and even crazier to think that I used to think and speak the same way...
