The last year or two I was in, I spent about 40% of each meeting in the bathroom and another 20% in the car. Even before that, I spent a lot of time in the bathroom since childhood.

whose hiding in the toilets at the kingdom hall?
by highdose inthis was a favorite way of getting away from the very unloving "loving brothers and sisters".
hide in the toilets, no one can collar you and tell you off.
and even better you won't be in amongst a group of people but still feeling so alone... at least you will actauly be alone!.

What's the silliest, funniest, stupidest, most embarassing thing you ever did on the platform?
by dissed inits friday evening and after being trapped in our home all week with over 2 meters (6 ft) of snow on the ground and more coming........ i feel the need to get a little silly.. so, as no one here really knows me, i can share one of lifes embarassing moments from the kh.
seeing as it's my question, i get to go first.. during the bible review, i accidentally used the s**t word.
my wife gave me a "wth" look.

dissed, your story made me laugh out loud. I probably would have caught that, not because I listened to the talks, but because I definitely have an ear for catching swear words in places they shouldn't be.
I didn't ever do anything too bad. I was always too nervous to do much of anything, I'm sure I seemed like a robot. I did one time pick up and start talking in a completely wrong spot, I was my mom's householder so she had to fix it. Haha.

Disfellowshipping, what else can they do in a case like this one? .....
by HappyGuy inokay, the disfellowshipping doctrine is inhumane, usually.
but, i remember a "brother" in jacksonville, florida, can't remember his name, i was 17 at the time, i think he was 18. this scumbag claimed to be a jehovah's witness.
we went to the same school.

Disfellowshipping still shouldn't be allowed, it's bullshit. Call the police, let them deal with it, and let the JW gossip chain take over so parents know to protect their kids, but the fake doctrine still isn't the way to go. If people (his family) don't want to speak anymore, that's fine. But they should not be forced to not talk to him.

how much longer do you give it?
by agent zero inhow much longer do you think it will be til the borg implodes?.
with april's rediculous generation renewal, the hyped 2012, then the 100th aniversary of 1914 two years later, the continued increase and spread of internet use, the age of the gb, and the lackluster of the rank n file, i give it 8-10 years before the whole show collapses.. .

If something big happens, I don't think it will be like in 1925, or even in 1975. Everyone is on the internet these days. Information spreads so fast. People are going to keep leaving, and less and less people will join as more and more people hear the truth about JWs.
However...I think they have a while. There's a couple of generations (the real meaning, not the WT meaning...) of people who seem pretty stuck with it, but more and more younger ones are leaving.
They're already focused a lot more on other countries, where people don't have as much internet access and can't research them.

Who do you pray when you feel the need to pray if you dont believe in God?
by cyberjesus insometimes when we face difficult situations i feel the need to pray to god for help, and i know that plenty of times the sole act of praying makes you feel hope and have a better outcome of the situation.
you can call it suggestive or that you prepare a positive scenario by using faith.
the outcome is that regardless if there is someone who listens or not to your prayers oftentimes you feel better afterwards and have more positive attitude.. the problem is that i dont believe in god anymore.

If I need to talk...I find someone to talk to, someone who can talk me through it and help me out.
But, I can count on one hand the number of times I prayed in my last couple of years before I left. Before that, it was rare (like 1-3 times a year)

The upside of atheism
by paul from cleveland ini realize whether you believe in god or the non-existence of god it has to be taken on faith since both positions are unknowable and unprovable.
however, i can understand faith in god as basically a hope for something better.
i can also understand agnosticism; admitting it's unknowable but still leaving the door open (perhaps the only intellectually honest option).

Also, the Santa Claus argument is entirely valid, as is the Pink Unicorn argument. Why do kids believe Santa Claus exists? Their parents, or somebody, told them he does.
Why do you believe God exists? Besides all of the "I just feel there has to be something out there"...where did you get the idea of God? -

beksbks said it best, really. It just is. I didn't choose to be an atheist because it had some particular hope that I liked. I didn't really choose to be an atheist at all, it was just the natural conclusion as I researched God and religion.
One upside is that I take personal responsibility for my own life, I don't just pray for a job, I go LOOK for one. I don't pray for my friend when they're in a terrible situation, I HELP them. As a JW (and I think this applies to most Christians), I honestly didn't care much at all about the state of our Earth because I figured God would make it all better soon. Now, I take responsibility for what I'm doing to this Earth, and how I can minimize the damage.
Believing in only things that are provable, to me, has helped me a lot as well, especially with a lot of the fears I had as a JW (like my house being taken over by demons). I feel that I'm able to reason on things a lot better and come to a more intelligent conclusion.
As far as "which god" I don't believe in...obviously I'm usually refering to a Christian God, but I don't believe in any god. I don't think that love existing means anything. If there is a God, and he's the one who put this love into us, what kind of hypocrite is he? He doesn't love us enough to protect us or help us at all. He didn't love the people in Haiti enough to prevent the earthquake. If he put the love into us, why doesn't everyone show that love? Why do some people turn into serial killers and rapists? If we should "love our neighbor", shouldn't God can't love us, his creations, enough to prevent us from going through terrible things?
Animals love, too. Look at the way pets love their owners, or watch a mama cat with her kittens. The affection and love is obvious.
Plus, I don't consider this a "cold dark universe". We live on a gorgeous planet, and have you watched videos about the universe? It's amazing. I had no idea when I was a JW. I can actually sit and stare in awe at the sky now. http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/cosmicvariance/2010/01/06/the-passage-of-time-and-space/ <---higly recommended
What's the point of living? The point is we now HAVE a reason to live. Before I felt that this life was just like a passage, a tunnel, into my "real life", something I had to get through. Now I realize this is my only chance and I better make something of it. It's very inspiring when you realize how short life is and then think about all you want to do in that amount of time. I went through suicidal tendencies a lot as a JW...now, I WANT to be alive, I want to experience this while I can. -

Another JW Report from Haiti - this is sick....
by Bonnie_Clyde inhttp://www.ultimatebiblereferencelibrary.com/haiti_disaster__17.1.10_.pdf .
two paragraphs were really bad:.
"we suspect not a few of our young brothers and sisters attending universities may have died when those buildings crashed to the grounds with everyone in them.

Have these people gotten ruder over the years?

my mom had surgery recently and once again all care taking duties have fallen into my lap.

They go way over the line often, yes. I remember an elder speaking to my dad and brother about my "spiritual state" the DAY my mom died, like that's what they (or I) needed.

New Songbook: Pedantic Piano Practise?
by metatron inok, the new songbook has gotten rid of some pretty awful lyrics about molested bees and nazarites, etc.
but after listening to several of the songs played at the kingdumb hall, all the songs started ------ to-------sound--------like-------this.
one careful paused note per syllable as if the whole songbook was published to help teach children learn how to play piano.. we can't expect "amazing grace" from these hacks, i guess.

I haven't heard any, only read some lyrics, but they sound scary.
