I really, really dislike Miley Cyrus...she annoys me and I find her totally talentless. Her dance was really awkward, weird, and poorly done, and I'm sure she was either drunk or on drugs. However, I think what upsets me most is the slut shaming ESPECIALLY when the man she was dancing with was singing a song that is about blurred lines of consent which nobody says a word about. Also, why is this news? The VMAs have been doing this forever, and there's way more important stuff going on that the news could be focusing on. I don't find her dance disgusting, I DO find the fact that it's all mainstream news sources can talk about disgusting.

What should we do to make sure we receive a blood transfusion?
by ILTSF inmy partner and i both grew up jw and our parents are all still in.
we have been together for several years, but are not married.
we are wondering what we should do to make sure that in the event that one of us needed a blood transfusion and was unable to make the decision themselves, the other would be able to make the decision, rather than that responsiblity being given to our parents (who would deny a transfusion).

Anyone gone through this process themselves?

Premarital sex--how prevalent?
by wafflesandpancakes inin my old congregation, everyone seems clean.
mostly chaste courtship, kingdom hall wedding, blah blah.. well there are lots of cases of fondling but they were soon forgotton.
when my husband and i confessed to sex before marriage, the elders were disgusted.

I think sex was pretty common among teenagers, and I'm sure among older people, too. I had sex as a JW teenager, and I'd say about 75% of the teens I knew (at least) also did.

What did you do with your books?
by mamamo ini was in an used bookstore this weekend and saw a new world translation and some other society publications.
this made me think, what did others do with their books?
i gave mine to my mother, 22 years ago.

Mine went in the trash.
I have noticed at a children's consignment shop I go to they sometimes have copies of the bible stories book. Always creeps me out, that book is not appropriate for children.

Do you miss feeling that "Jehovah" was listening to prayers?
by LyinEyes inthis is hard to explain, but i will try.
the other day, my neice was put in the hospital for test , after having two seizures, she is 20 and has never had any medical problems at all.
i now know, that by doing that it seemed to take the burden of helplessness off of my shoulders.

For me, I always felt weird praying because I NEVER felt like anyone was listening.

I set up a separate FB to keep in touch with family and previous JW friends. I don't post much there, just photos and some general updates. It may not be for everyone but it works for me.

I almost wished i took the blue pill....
by 20yearfader insince joining this site and having my eyes opened,i find i'm now dealing with a lot of emotions that were suppressed.one being the passing of loved ones,in the org we were discouraged from showing proper emotions due to the fact that if you did you were considered weak since they the dearly departed were only sleeping.now im being bombarded with dreams of my loved ones that i,due to my brainwashing never had the emotional release that i should have had.i'm just wondering how others on this site are coping, and dealing with the fact that everything we was taught was false almost as a way to keep up under control,as we lost years and decades of time.i almost wish i keep my head and the sand and had taken the blue pill.what has helped you all deal with this ...new religion......no religion...etc.

I felt the same way. It's been about 3 years now, and sometimes in bad moments I still feel that way but realize very quickly that it's not true- I don't wish I'd never learned the truth. But it is hard to give up everything you know, your entire childhood, in many cases all of your friends and family. I'm sorry 20yearfader.

Do you miss God?
by wobble inif you are one of the posters on here who has got to the point where you do not believe in god to any great extent, do you miss "him".
i find that i rarely used to ask god for anything, or load him up with my problems, everybody elses were far more urgent, but i did used to feel moved to praise him when i saw the beauties of creation, a sunset etc.. i now feel an urge to still do that, but do not believe anyone is listening, do you get moments like that ?.
love.

I never really felt a connection with God at all. So no, I don't miss him/it.
