Do video games cause bad behaviour in children?
by The Rebel inmy boy is 10 and has got very interested in pocamon cards.
( a game way to complicated for me to understand) but i've also noticed it's linked to a computer game, which seems harmless enough but i also noticed advertisements for more violent games appear.. i would value people's opinion on whether, you think video games cause bad behaviour in kids.
i should mention my kid says i limit his time on these games, much more than other children's parents, and i was thinking of reevaluating that rule.. thanks.. the rebel..

Yes unfortunately there is a bit of a difficult age sort of 9 to 14 where the 3+ or 7+ market like skylanders they find a bit babyish but games like halo they go for are 12+ and can seem too violent. Halo is a battle aliens game but no gore/ bood and ONE cuss word , how silly is that either cuss or don't but don't spoil it for the kid market but saying the b word once !
I find it really difficult to deal with as one of my kids its litterally all he wants to do, ever. The worse thing is he's terrible at sports and hates it. Hates reading, can't spell but is nerdy about computers and science. It really is the only thing he is good at, that and music. He has a wicked sense of humour, like a youtuber so when I try and stop him I wonder am I trying to stop his future?

Hi , and welcome. Lots of great advice here, I particularly like
kirous wish I had the patience to take a slower approach.
My JW wife constantly reminds me that there is no emergency.
There isn't.
I wouldn't bother with the whole birthday xmas thing just now, they don't matter (especially if you have no kids). Let him get used to the idea (and that you are not going to sprout two heads) I know it's been a while but it sound's like he's going through a process of grieving right now ( I hope you have been through the angry stage!! Eg the old 'expert elder' bit LOL!!!)I guess emember how long it took you to adjust . I don't see, however, why you shouldn't show him some of the reasons you found the org so dubious and there are some great examples on this thread of things taken from only the bible and the wtbts own literature. The live broadcast from the RC of GB member Jackson may be an excellent 'entree'!!
I wish you all the best, I don't see why you're marriage should become a victim of the wbts imho! But only you know the extent to which it's been poisoned by the cult.
PS you didn't mention parents/in laws but whether you choose to fade of d/a I expect will be governed by that. Personally I would try to avoid loosing family but in the end I guess you must do what's right for you. I am glad you have your cousin and I am sorry the elder's gave him such a hard time, so much for consistency. I guess he wasn't married to a ms!

Why won't they simply change policy on sex offenders? Will they?
by punkofnice inwhy won't they (the wbt$ head honchos), simply change policy on sex offenders?
will they?..especially after the arc for eg?
it seems that with all the bad press and now the arc among other institutions that are exposing the wbt$ for a haven for paedophiles, why hasn't the wbt$ simply changed it's insane policy?.

Fukitol I'd rather die at Armageddon than worship such a deity!
Agreed. Someone in a post on this site mentioned standing on a high place (TM) with chest puffed out and giving the finger too, becuase he would die happy knowing he had the moral highground.

Who really is the faithful and discreet slave?
by quincemyles inmatthew 24:45-47: who really is the faithful and discreet slave whom his master appointed over his domestics, to give them their food at the proper time?
happy is that slave if his master on arriving finds him doing so.
truly i say to you, he will appoint him over all his belongings.".

I think you make a very good point quincemyles. If any of those parables do apply to anything, they apply to that immediate period of time after Jesus'death. Except noone wants to see that because it would have to Include the generation speech. Not something most Christians want to entertain. -

We are not thinking folks. What is the best way to get JW's to check out the events in Australia.
by James Mixon intell our jw family members, door knockers, and stand sitters that you were very impressed.
by the branch overseer and other elders in australia, they gave a fine witness.. so what will happen, they will tell their friends the brothers in australia gave a fine.

Anon2 Hey, I just want to say I am really sorry about your poor Aunt that died alone. This is what is so wrong with the borg, taking the love of family away from that older generation when they told them not to have kids/marry was the worst thing they ever did. They don't do it now because without the born-ins (and the threat of shunning)their no.'s would plummet. -

So sacred in fact he decreed thousands of pints of the stuff ripped from its living, sentient, terrified owners so that the tribes get to party and the Lord gets to "smell a sweet savour". Holy Holy Holy. Indeed. -

A question the Chair (Mclellan) may want to ask G. Jackson
by Indian Larry inmr. jackson, we have heard testimony from mr spinks and mr. obrien that women will never have leadership positions in the congregation.
as i understand it mr. jackson, you interpret revelation 7 to mean that only 144,000 will go to heaven and that these 144,000 will rule the earth.
i also understand that your organization teaches that women are part of this "remnant" of 144,000. can you explain why jesus christ is willing to put women in leadership over the entire earth but you are not willing to permit them to have anything to do with helping victims of pedophiles in your congregation?

Secretslaveclass The heavenly one where it is sexless and all serve equally.
I forgot yes of course they are "not women"in heaven are they?
How about asking why the 144,000 is a literal no. but the bit about being virgin men is just symbolic
Of course we know women were included in the 144,000 because the bible students were a bit short on numbers initially and had to include everyone, stroking their ego's enough to get them to go peddle the literature
I realize this is unproven but the word is that Russell's wife, who had major imput into the 'Bible Students'as an editor and board member, left Russell due to infidelity, specifically paedophilia.
