Hello it's me !
by wozza inhi everyone ,with the change in the format of this site i realised it might be easier now to change my avatar to be actually of me rather than a screaming little horror ,sure i get that way sometimes but i think presenting myself as i am is probably better.
it is a pix of me climbing part of the beautiful flinders ranges in south australia some time ago ,kind of symbolizes the struggle out of the wts ,it turned out to be a beautiful climb and worth it.. if anyone recognises me please feel free to pm maybe we can catch up.

I was going to do a post querying what charitable things the wbts do. I mean how exactly does a publishing company get charitable status? -

So glad you and spouse are on the same wavelength, lovely to hear. Enjoy this wonderful time with young children, it really is the happiest time of your life so try not to get too stressed about things as you will never have this special time again! (Ok preaching over, that's the only type of middle aged preach you will hear from me!)

Questions for current and former elders re giving evidence
by Mickey mouse insupposing you were called to give evidence by an inquiry.
how would you answer?
are you concerned that you may end up being called to give evidence for past involvement in judicial committees to future inquiries?

I'm not an ex elder but I am studying law and I would say if I had a client who was an ex elder I would argue that he should be seen in a similar light to that of an ex addict and or someone who had suffered from a mental health issue. In other words the brainwashing and fear tactics the cult employs cripple one's normal faculties to such an extent that a person does not act as their normal, rational self would. In fact I would say that a serving elder may be seen to be as responsible for their actions as a hostage would. In other words no reasonable person would perceive them as a free agent.
If you think about what the average JW may face loosing should they incur the wtbts displeasure you will begin to understand why the Australian elders were 'throwing themselves under the bus' so to speak. They have a metaphorical gun pointed at their heads', even should they have every sympathy with the aims of the R.C.

Let me guess.....you also put a pox on this kid and her future children and her children's children and you greatly increased her pain in childbirth. (that last bit was a nice touch by the way, I wouldn't have though of that in a million years )
SAMUEL HERD: where she gets to loose lots of blood, then you get to ban blood transfusions. Way to go,big man!(oh and don't forget to curse her with the urge to play house )

Shunning inactive JW? I never heard about it before....
by Albert Einstein infrom many of your posts ive noticed some of you, who never were df or da are practicaly shunned by your family memebers or congregation memebers.
does that really mean they wouldnt talk to you or greet you, if they meet you on the street or if you call them?.
i live in eastern europe and i never in my life heard about such attitude.

I later learned that her name was Amy and that she was disfellowshipped or declared disassociated, which in the early 1980s was officially the same as being d'fed (Even to the ridiculous point of a certain watchtower using over and over again the composite word disfellowshipped/disassociated, yes they lumped the words together).
And we know why don't we? It was a personal hissy fit thrown by one of the 'anointed' great leaders, against his nephew - the principled, brave Ray Franze. The whole D/A equals D/F rule was passed PURELY as a way of hurting Ray. Lese majeste indeed. At least we know how they get their 'new light',spite.
R.I.P. Amy, sounds like another brave soul.

Movies/Books for Cult Survivors
by Brighid infor me, there have always been special movies or scenes in movies that trigger my old jw experience (fiddler on the roof and little mermaid touched me deeply when i watched them as a young jw).
later as a survivor, it was more donnie darko, thx 1138 themes that struck me in particular.. anyway, looking for suggestions on great movies, books (art of any kind, really) that especially speak to or move you as a jw survivor?
there are reasons beyond purely entertainment that i ask..

If you want a recent movie, for a born again humanist- athiest type, Christopher Nolan's "Intersteller" is a must-see, utterly inspirational.
Another new-ish film worth seeing is Ridley Scott's Exodus God and Kings. Love the way Mosed tries to rescue his brother Pharoh at the last minute and take him with him.
The Matrix and Ninteen Eighty-Four get my vote as must-see for any newly awoken one's. Animal Farm too.
Brighid Love these types of posts, btw!
