Watchtower looses Norwegian Appeal

watchtower has just lost its appeal in the norwegian courts over the withdrawal of the funding it receives from the government as an officially recognised religion.

the initial decision will now stand due to what the court termed 'exclusionary practices' which includes the witnesses barbaric practice of shunning minors, even by family members in their own homes.

the ministry of children and families have decided they are now no longer eligible for the state grant of 16 million norwegian kroner given to officially recognised religions.. the following is a statement has been issued, i have summarised if it isn't readable: .

That is a completely specious argument. The state removes children from parental care if the children are in dire risk and as for prison, either parents or kids are put in custody if they break the law!! Believe me in Europe for the courts to put a parent with dependent children in prison the crime has to be pretty bad, too.
Jehovah's witnesses are known to practice social isolation within the home and by family members which is child abuse by any metric.

They would miss having the right to perform weddings, I imagine...?
St. George of England I doubt it. This is how it used to be in the UK years ago. The wedding was conducted at the KH and then the couple went to the Registrar's Office for the legal part, or as often happened at our KH, the Registrar came along to the KH, sat through the service and then did the signing of the register.

Yes it's always been that way in the UK. I think now the registrar observes the ceremony and then ensures the couple & witnesses sign the wedding registry.

I presume in Norway officially registered religions are permitted to perform their own legal ceremony. Once Watchtower is longer registered it will be as in the UK, the registrar will attend the kingdom Hall in order to officiate the legal part of the ceremony.

Just so you are aware (Hi by the way!) Norway has rescinded Watchtower's right to a Government grant that all officially recognised religions receive, because they socially isolate 'shunned', or disfellowshipped, minors - which is considered child abuse.

Toni Morris claimed Norway was interfering with their freedom of religion. Jehovah's witnesses are still free to practice their religion as they see fit in Norway. It's just that they are no longer entitled to state benefits, totalling millions, due to their cruel treatment of minors. Watchtowers hypocritically complains about their own rights being infringed, whist interfering with the right of freedom of thought and religion of their own members!!

I think his biggest obstacle is himself. He can recover from this, but it would require for him to stop being so aggressive and even hostile towards anyone who offers advice or criticism, as well as learning to cope with people who oppose him. He would also need to be more cooperative with others and even be willing to help others without any direct or immediate gain to himself.

It's incredible, TOH, that in reading this without knowing who this person is, if you had to visualise your perfectly well trained male Jehovah's Witness primed to become an elder you couldn't find a better descriptor than this.

I know, I know, it's considered the lowest hanging fruit to ever hurl the "you're still in the mindset of a JW" at anyone. Our version of Godwin's law by whose standards the thread has come to an end and we've lost the "argument". But in this case the comparison is just so obvious it smacks you right in the face.

It's probably why so many of us always found Lloyds behaviour so triggering.

Especially given the nature of correspondence, people being potential victims, it's reckless because it makes it so easy to imitate.

Yes, Ozzie & Simon.....one that gets plenty of patreon donations, yet cares so little for those whom he purports to represent - worse, are his bread and butter - to ensure their safety by spending a paltry amount per month for a secure domain/email address. Especially when sending stories that could loose them their familles if traced back to them.

.......But that all sounds quite a familiar story with him. 🤔

The same R.Yohanan is said to have spoken with general Vespasian, addressed him as Lord Emperor to which Vespasian objected given he was not the emperor to which R, Yohanan announced:

"If you are not the king you will be eventually, because the Temple will only be destroyed by a king's hand"

Absolutely fascinating I had no idea and certainly didn't know about the temple destruction expectation. Why would the people react so negatively to Jesus taking about rebuilding the temple, then, after all someone had to be the messiah and rebuild it??

I'm afraid I'm not knowledgeable enough to contribute or "discuss" but I've certainly learned a lot!

There was no one else doing what he did. Awakening JW's were still terrified of Watchtower and afraid of losing absolutely everything if they showed their faces on YouTube. Lloyd grabbed the opportunity and ran with it. And all the Blind bowed down and thanked the great "seeing one".

Actually there were plenty of people doing you tube videos and running websites and help groups.

The big difference with Lloyd was that he was the first one that started demanding money for what he was doing. He was fortunate that Patreon and Cash App/Super chats arrived not long after for him to push. Whereas with those who went before, money was never an issue.

His pompous, self important manner and earnest sounding voice probably lead naive people to put trust in him and see him as more believable and intelligent than he really was*. (He certainly took the majority of his stuff from JWfacts.com). His imposing height also probably swayed people to defer to him, as studies have shown psychologically it has that effect on people.

*Although It was quite apparent on this site that he was neurotic at the very least.

I think the fairly large drop in patreons is probably more seasonal and connected with people's lack of spare cash this year. Glad to see folks are prioritising their own friends and family for once. Lloyds gravy train has been obscene, frankly. He earns money from You tube for his videos anyway, which cost barely anything to make. After all the media he reviews is free & he doesn't have specialist skills any other exjw doesn't have so I don't understand why he needs further renumeration. I understand contributing to the TTATT documentary as a project for example, but he's been personally inundated with money and all expenses paid holidays with his family, for essentially interviewing the people who do the real activism.

You have to be invited to do a TED talk. You can put yourself forward, but they don't take just anyone because they decide they're going to do it. I think a talk on cults in general would be accepted, but I don't think they'd allow someone to "target" one religion. I just can't see it??

No some random elder from Chipping Sodbury will become a Prince - get to order Moses etc around and hob-nob it with Jesus and the Holy Host of Kenny Rogers....

Jeff Edited to add: perhaps this is a difference in how words are used on our respective sides of the pond. All the more reason to make sure you're using the words you want to be using

I've noticed him use that word before too and it has the same meaning in the UK: Churning = turning out a lot of rubbish.

I think it's to do with him hearing other You Tuber's use the phrase. Bit of a Freudian slip and sounds as if making maximum profit is the goal, rather than reasoned responses to watchtower.
