B's Ass My family used to talk about this stuff in the 60s. They had joined in the 1930s, some were in Bethel. Lots of paranoia from the very beginning. The governing body tells the sheep to have faith in "Gods protection" while they raise money for underground survival bunkers. lol.

I know the whole thing is absolutely bonkers! If God can't protect the resurrected Moses, Abraham, Sarah and David etc from "poison bombs", what hope is there for anyone? Not to mention it's hardly a resurrection into Paradise if they'll have to hide away from famine and biological warfare, now, is it??!

Yet people from Malawi were raped, beaten and killed because Watchtower commanded them not to carry the Government party card - essentially an ID card everyone in Malawi's one party state country was required to carry!!

A passport in the USA is not a necessary object. It's possible to use other forms of ID in the US rather than swear an oath of allegiance in order to enjoy the worldwide, first class travel that's funded by the rank and file members!!

I would like to enquire of any elders, do you know when Watchtower put in writing it that parents are required to be in attendance with minors during any kind of judicial committee, reproof and/or back room counselling session etc?

It at least demonstrates that elders do have pastoral duties involving minors.

Also service meetings. The fact ANY baptised male is to "take the lead" in ALL cases where spiritual activities are taking place - that his authority supersedes any female's - places the Sister's children in a vulnerable position.

That's a good point! You're probably right!

How does it work? Does it mean that someone who worked in close proximity with someone at Bethel who had been baptised before 1935 could have the anointing passed on to them?

No anointing is just something you "know". No one can pass it on, or tell anyone else they are. It used to be if you were anointed you were one of the 144,000, the generation AND the slave. Now you're still one of the 144000 but not the slave (unless you're GB). However you're not of "This Generation" unless you were anointed BEFORE the last one of the 1914 generation died off anywhere in the world (probably late 90s/2000?). You don't have to have literally known them (of course that's hard to prove because no one knows when the last one died. Even Watchtower claims not to)

memory from long ago: my old mate from high school lived next door to a jw and was often "treated" to the latest jw literature.

when the "you can live forever in paradise on earth"* book came out, this neighbour waxed lyrical about how good this book was and how powerful the message was.

he acted really keen about it, like it was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

. Last year they organised an "organ crawl", an afternoon where each church would be open at a certain time and an organist or two would play a piece or two on the organ before moving on to the next church, the audience moving on with them. I was too crook (sick) that year to attend, unfortunately.

Recently one of the churches allowed the organist to play a piece she had been learning, Bach's Passacaglia, at the end of the service. It was very moving

Oh boy I would have been there in a heartbeat I'm obsessed with organ music! Actually that's another massive draw....music. Even if you're not into 'high church' music as such, or plain song etc etc, who doesn't love a good hymn or Christmas carol? I have to be honest I can barely count on one hand the JW songs I have a fondness for (music was always my guilty secret as a witness. I used to watch "Songs of praise" with my non jw granny and blame her lol)

the GB have the correct interpretation and this doctrine is from Jehovah then why are still more becoming anointed after the 1990s when the last of those who saw 1914 died off?

Because you can be anointed without necessarily being The Slave or the overlapping generation. You can be one, two or all three. The GB can be anointed and The Slave without being the overlapping generation. That's why they changed the doctrine from the slave being the 144,000, to just simply being the GB. Eventually like - to my certain knowledge - Ken Cook who was not anointed before The Last Of US them died off in the 90s, none of the GB would be the slave IF the slave was still of the (overlapping) generation who saw the sign.

My son has been watching and reading a lot about Anglicanism and The Church of Scotland numbers tanking, too. It's not just JWs that is failing to attract the young.

I suppose the major difference is the whole end times doctrine. The mainstream churches have at least the potential to recover and there are other ways into the church ie school, the Scouts, outreach homeless charities rehabs etc and of course traditional times we turn to the church within our culture - Christenings, weddings and services such as remembrance days (US veterans day) Christmas services, harvest festivals etc None of which Jehovah's witnesses have.

This is where they have a problem. They have no recovery point if the end times don't arrive which was their major selling point. They have none of these "inroads" for members that other churches have...like, at all.

Education video this midweeks meeting

there is an item this week all about yang ones leaving school.. the two brothers go to a career advisor seminar.

one brother thinks it’s good to work hard full time while you are young and tries to encourage his friend to as well.. his friend (who is the good jw trust the gb no matter what they say)) he wants a part time job.. the video shows him dreaming about investing his money on his phone and the chart goes up, he drives a nice car and seems to be doing well financially.. then he reads the scripture in proverbs and next you see that investment chart go down in the red and he is so pleased he just got a low paid part time job.. this infuriates me.

how many of us are now struggling because we were told to get menial part time jobs and we were told the end would have been here by now.. i will never tell a young person to listen to the gb advice on this.

i get a few good laughs from the ex-jw facebook site: " ex jw humor will set you free".. i was laughing over dinner with 3rd gen over this post tonight: "question for the audience: i was driving around today and it hit me...there are big falsehoods (armageddon etc.

) that we were told, but also ridiculous falsehoods.
