Why Me?

do you ever wonder why out of all the witnesses, you are the one that woke up?

i wonder many times why me.

i know many men and women that are much, much better persons than me; either they are much smarter, more humble, kinder, more successful, or just better persons all around.

Elderly widows targeted, convinced to sign over Power of Attorney and Personal Representative of Estate

i discovered that my 96-year-old grandaunt had named her jw elder as personal representative of her estate and another jw "best friend" as her power of attorney.

i learned that they used a financial advisor at wells fargo advisors to help raid my grandaunts bank accounts in the years before her death, and then the wt and jws received most of what was left of her estate.

i am currently working on a book to expose this horrific practice.

Nanette how I despise this practise, it's another example of the witnesses complete and utter disregard for, and inability, to put individual welfare before the organization. All must be in subjection to 'the work'. It is, in fact, the antithesis of Christianity. When you realize that these individuals, legal professionals notwithstanding, have nothing to gain personally by their savage actions, it gives you an idea of the sinister power of the concept they serve.

Sometimes I believe part of the problem is those who know the systems' reticence to inform the elderly and infirm of the truth of 'the truth'. Many times on this forum you will hear folk say it is pointless and cruel to tell the elderly they have no hope and they have waisted their lives. They are also seen as the one group who are "out of bounds" for our biting cynisism and anger. I too am amoung that group. I know well an elderly diabetic lady who has started to deteriorate fast. I have never told her the truth about my past and my knowledge of the JW fraud as I did not want to worry a woman who has dedicated her life to the society. I regularly cook for her and recently have found her wandering and a little disheveled in the high street. Her family is either dead (one child and husband) or live abroad in germany and it is obvious noone at the hall is caring for her. She owns property in London and I have no doubt she has left it to wtbts. I believe they may be keeping her state under wraps as in England when an elderly person needs to be in a care home they sell their home to pay for the care. If they have no money to pay for their care THEN the state takes over. Of course all this is hard to prove conclusively. I have made the authorities aware of her condition and my concerns. I will let you know of the outcome and if I can establish anything definitively. I know this is only anacdotal evidence but its grist to the mill of your book I guess.

Again, so so sorry about your Aunt.

Onthewayout he rewiring of the brain is sufficient in a majority of cases to prevent members from committing thoughtcrime. "They said they joined the UN for a library card, so that's it." "They said they report these crimes committed by a few bad people who joined the organization, so they do, and they get rid of the bad people." "They have all of their chronology worked out on charts, so it is so."

It hurts that good characteristics, like trust, can be used for ill.

There is also our good friend, the ebola virus of defense mechanisms: denial.

Defenition of a defense mechanism is: any mechanism that protects (defends) us from unwanted thoughts, feelings, or drives.

If it can keep addicts in addiction and folk in abusive relationships, it can keep Witnesses in Kingdom Hall.

But yes, JohnAquilla, sometimes being right it a lonely place to be and I am sorry you are feeling down today, I send you love

JohnAquilla My mom for example is the greatest woman I have ever met. That lady has only a 1st grade education, is 90 percent deaf, and when I was born, my father left us and she raised me all by herself. She always put me first in her life. I will never be that good of a person.

Wow, she sounds like SOME woman, not to be rude but men are crazy! Who would leave a woman like that!I would literally give my right eyeball to have a mother like that and BE a mother that good. You are a lucky boy.

Regarding good folk like mum Aquilla, I sometimes think they are just too good to SEE the bad in others, it just doesn"t exist in their 'world' of thought. I think this applies especially to older one's who were taught not to question and belief in God was a given. I also think as the wtbts has expanded it has lost its "amateur" men of goodwill vibe and feels more like the big business corporation it is. I think all religons must have had that small, first century brothers united in love vibe in the beginning. Riches mean power and this attracts the greedy and the power-mongers and the watchtower is certainly rich.

I DO however think education has a LOT to do with it. The priviledge of a university education was for the rich only in the not too distant past, even in the developed world. A undergraduate Philosophy module was certainly the final nail in the coffin for me.Some folk don't have that oppertunity, certainly as I have mentioned older one's who have not had the benefits newer generations have. This particularly applies to evolutionary science and the dissemenation of information, that we are far from the only human species to have walked the earth. Once you learn the scientific method CAN be trusted, anyone with a modicum of curiosity, a primary human characteristic, will soon learn that there is MUCH to question in the Bible.

Of course, despite the fact many of us have escaped, we still underestimate the power of of the cult.....one two three oubliette....lets review...it's a cult!

The conventions and the memorial are a pain in the butt for me.

i can imagine those of you who have a spouse that is not awake and how hard it must be.

i have a 90 year old mom who is a jw and still puts in 12 hrs a month in field service.

the brothers and sisters are always picking her up for conventions, meetings and memorials and as much as i try to avoid them, there are times when i just cant.

Magnum Imagine what backing out of it would do to the notion that they are they are guardians of doctrine. It would mean that all those years they were wrong about a huge doctrine of life or death importance. It would be difficult to explain that one away as "new light".

Too true, imagine the anger of family members (God help them, parents even), I imagine even the most cult-controlled dub will find that hard to deal with.

Stupid things JWs say

ok we all say stupid things (probably on a daily basis in my case) but my mother (a jw) was told by another member that she doesn't have a conscience because anyone who smiles as much as she does simply can't have a conscience.

i bet you can guess the person who said it to her has a face like a wet weekend.. i guess the reasoning is: if you had a conscience you wouldn't have much to smile about because you'd be overwhelmed with guilt and worry.

what a load of old bollox that cult is eh?.

The Org is terrified of apostates

i knew apostasy was a serious concern for the org, but until i watched this video, i had no idea how afraid they actually were.

all this guy wants is to do is not turn in his fs hours and immediately they (elders) set about drilling him about who are what influenced his decision, as if he was incapable of making his own (which as the elders confirm, in the org is highly discouraged).

they are convinced he has been communicating with apostates or visiting apostate web sites.
