Been encouraging my husband to contact his DF'd brother
by atacrossroads inmy husband has a brother he has not spoken too in years not even when he became an adult.
there is a big age gap between them and when his brother was df'd he was still a small child.
his brother was 17 when he was df'd for sex and when he turned 18 he left home and never looked back.

Maybe the DF'd Brother is happy and content with his life. I can relate to this. When my family gets involved in my life it causes nothing but stress and it is just not worth the trouble. Maybe the DF'd Brother is happy and wants to move on with his life.
I guess this is the reason I would approach hubby first, you can't risk a wronged man being rejected twice.
That said, I do hope he doesn't hold your husband at quite the same level of culpability as your parents in law. I guess your BIL has tried to build a life away from his family and pulled up the emotional drawbridge for his own self protection .
One thing I would make no apologies for though - straight taking alert here - if you have kids, for goodness sakes don't let the next generation have to go through this shunning cr@p. That really is the place where you have the ability to effect the most positive change.

Everybody loves Raymond
by Saintbertholdt ina while ago the user vinman started a forum thread called: "ray franz was an idiot".
the reaction to it was quite negative but i have to admit that the title of that thread was intriguing to me.
by nature i am an iconoclast.

I'm a selfish bastard.
Nah...challenging accepted norms is not selfish. You had your fingers burnt by the Watchtower - you have learnt well my son.
As to your bastardy I wouldn't care to comment without your asking your mother.

If he accepted it the GB knew he would keep quiet. He would not have been DF'd and the shunning rules would never have been re-introduced.
As is often stated on this forum:
A good (or honourable)deed never goes unpunished!
Interesting example of the complexity of lifes "moral"choices - for us JW black and white thinkers out there!

I say go for it. What's the worse that can happen, they dont talk to each other?!!
You know you only live once. Your only gonna have so many siblings. Can you at least determine for sure if your husband would shun him. If not, you have your green light!
