I guess he will get old & grey, but broke ? I doubt..... If they paid him $10million for one year !! ....Woweee... and they say that British footballers are overpaid ......Talk about quitting while you are ahead...

We had a footballer on his way to brilliant things in Britain back in the sixties/seventies who quit to Pioneer as a dub. his name was Peter Knowles. I found this song about him on Youtube , by Billy Bragg, which I found interesting . The graphics are a bit before his time though.

Wow thanks for postingbluesbrother I think the grimm graphics were either made by a fan or billy if he refuses to waste hundreds (of thousands on fancy companies). I guess they kind of speak about the grimmness he will face as opposed to the glamorous life of a footballer, the pics looked post war - old bomb sites perhaps coventry? Do you know what became of him?

Thank you for your post. I wasn't aware they had an adopted daughter - seems as if they were a good Christian couple whose extreme desire to emulate their apostle heros proved too burdensome for a normal red blooded married women to deal with.

I have no issue with Russell, indeed with any individual bible student or witness (with the possible exception of Rutherford). I do however think that as a body of men the GB, their so called 'helpers'and branch office officials have a duty of care toward their flock & are, instead of refreshing them, constantly adding to their burdens to such a point that stress, suicide & mental illness are particularly common among witnesses. It was painful to hear one over burdened & frustrated elder talk of ignoring watchtower directives and attempting to 'remove the whip marks'from his unhappy flocks back.

Its too tragic for words.

Thank you for this post. we none of us are perfect & all do things at times that we feel bad about at the time or with hindsight. However as the new testament correctly points out, we cannot claim to be Christians and or decent folk if we are not kind to those closest to us - our famillies including our spouse.

How can folk spend time spreading the message of the kingdom to strangers, claiming its done out of love, if we don't practice that message of love in our personal lives. Our spouse & children in particular, with whom we will spend our lives our owed our constant devotion . Although we will constantly stumble and make mistakes the most important thing is to own our error and try to make ammends. A Christian cannot refuse Arms yet maintain a war in his own household as Russell did or commit violent acts on his children as some JW's do. Headship in this world is a licence for cruelty & domination - equality & sharing should be the watchwords for Christians and Humanists in all family relationships including that of our children - thier voices MUST be heard as of equal merit or abuse will continue.

The cruelty & lack of listening within these hierachical WT structures is apparent. What does the gobbledegook "because of the angels "mean anyway? The truth is the middle eastern bronze age onsessjon with womens hair is the reason. During the recent Parisian march against terroism , when world leaders stood at the front of the marchers linking arms, Angela Merkel - the German Chancellor - was airbrushed out in a right wing Ofthadox Jewish newspaper. Not because she was a women, but because her HAIR was uncovered.That silliness is continued in the wtbts today with its headship rules!

i am still serving as an elder but just hanging in there.

i think their quandry is that they don't see me out in the field, but when they need encouragement and decent prayer they come to me.. i just got off the phone to this poor sister who i have only met twice.

she is not even in my congregation (her sister is).

even with the new rebranding/softening of this religion, i still don't see how people can believe in him.

the god of the old testimate is an angry murderer who approved rapes and slavery and killed thousands of men, women and children.

Why did hundreds of independent cultures point up and say "God"? And have an overwhelming compulsion to pay homage and pray and believe is a being greater than us? How did that happen?

I beleive its connected with the human compulsion to see "intentionality" in everything.

So imagine 65, 000 years ago homo sapiens jo and jane are walking close to the dark woods, they both hear a rustle

jo hears the noise and thinks a tree rustles

jane hears the noise and thinks someone MADE the tree rustle

jo does nothing

jane runs

a hungry bear jumps out and eats jo, jane escapes and lives to pass on her genes: the tendency to see events as CAUSED by an AGENT or AGENCY is passed on

Thus the human tendency to see agency in everything is universal, and the ultimate agent is God/s.

he deist worker creator proposition is simpler in the sense that we see work done to produce someTHING all the time, to carry that proven sequence of 'cause and effect' back into time beyond the beginning , that is the simplicity. of course you are right: we've got another thing or two coming. glad for that, and consider stuffwotifink's posts above.

Just want to say (sadly) who created the creator? If you insist complexity requires an intelligence surely the creator is very complex and therefore requires a creator too and so on ad infinitum.

t like the idea of hanging my future on a reaction to a negative. (the JW religion)

When I first began participating on this site, I realized there is a formula that is supposed to be followed of leaving, poking fun at the religion, look to science and lastly, become an atheist.

That feels like pressure.

I want to have my own experience - something the JWs do not allow.

I do wish there were more opportunities for friendly discussions about the topic but the folks here that believe in God are pretty quiet and the atheists are as zealous as the JWs

millie210 I agree with you, and although I am someone who has followed that formulae to a tee and am now an athiest I feel very uncomfortable with the fact that thiests are nervous about expressing their views on this forum. I love the idea of you following your own path, thats cool. Thats what we should all be about here - ACCEPTANCE.

I personally am still grieving over Jesus.I really miss him being in my life. I know it seems foolish but there it is.

They know! I really think there is a chance the boys at the top know. They have been looking over their information in the Watchtower library and the UN library (lol)not to mention the projections re lawsuits for abuse and the gay marriage laws that will finish them eventually (loose their tax exempt status for both reasons)- and someone with clout has finally persuaded them that it was all a delusion (for Russell & Franze)and a pyramid scheme/book sales turned property development business (Rutherford). That its time to switch off the lights and go home. They dont want a riot or any law suits so they are doing it gently.👏👬 👭
