by bobld inwill we submit to theocratic direction now?.
absolutely we will follow your directions.we the bethel family in the u.s.have been re-assigned to the field.we accept.. as traveling o/s because of advancing age and medical conditions we have been assigned as special pioneers.we accept.. oh!
we just received a new directive now we are re-assigned as regular pioneers.we accept.. we are now enjoying abundant blessing.we are grateful and contented, brimming with joy in our old old age.we are so close, very close to the end of our journey(lives).soon no more pain or sorrow.peace at last awaiting to be raised from the dead..

We won`t have children in this system of things because the end is so close ! .When was this first presented ?
My best friend did not have children because of WT direction initially, the end was so close and there was much to do.
Then, as she was trapped due to family (an extremely sick mother who couldn't cope with facing ttatt &loss of her last child )my dear, beloved, beautiful intelligent born -in friend did not have children because she could not bear to inflict being brought up a witness on her children. ๐ข
Money, travel, career - all can be joys in life but nothing, absolutely nothing comes close to the joy of a child. Ray Franze was not a bitter man or one to dwell on regrets - but even he grieved at the thought he had deprived his wife of the joy of having children.
Of course he had done no such thing, the WTBTS had.๐ก

The end of the age or the end times what did the Bible writers mean?
by Crazyguy inthere are plenty of scriptures pointing to the idea that the end was near according to the scriptures way back then.
example at act chapter 2 peter states were in the last days, at 1john chapter 2 in the last hour.
jesus stated he would be back before some of that generation died and of course the famous quote 'this generation'.

by nicolaou inpresidential hopeful ben carson of course.
this isn't another gun control debate, i just thought it might be fun to have a topic where we can dump all the hysterical quotes from the candidates.. it's a deep and plentiful mine folks!

OTWO Jeb Bush is watching his mouth pretty good so far
I'm not too familiar with US politics but dear Robin Williams made me laugh when he said about George Bush Jnr "You gotta worry when you come from a family where the smart brother is called Jeb!!"๐ -

The right to shun - wrong?
by Simon inmany people are understandably upset and angry at the notion that jws have the right to shun people.
it seems such an obvious "no brainer" cruel and inhuman thing to do - it must be wrong ... surely?.
of course we look at things from the perspective of those hurt and harmed by shunning.

Berrygerry IMO, one of the absolutely most insane court decisions of all time was when the US Supreme Court decided that corporations are persons (and therefore have some rights ??? ).
I don't know anything about this or how they have specifically used this law in their favour but I can say that the opposite is also true. Its possible the same law may be used to bite corps like WT on the ass - for example as I mentioned the corporate manslaughter law.
I think your right that by not maintaining accepted public or govt standards they may well loose their qualifying charitable status or other priviledges.

Simon Second, have you any idea what a real hate crime is? Not the PC nonsense that get's promoted by the right xenophobic media. Real hate crimes are way more than just calling someone a name.
Actually I would say its the leftwing pc brigade but anyway.Hate crime comes in many forms. At one end of the continuam there is actual bodily harm with intent perhaps "gay bashing" at the other name calling (maybe at those who dont share your religous beliefs)and hurtful behaviour which surely includes shunning. The results can be pretty devastating with shunning, particularly when it involves the young, old or witholding natural family interaction like seeing the grandchildren. Yes its not bombing but it has resulted in death through suicide.
The point is, like poor child protection policies its unethical for an organization to make rules compelling members to shun.
Of course the libertarian in us will revolt at the thought of more legislatation against any form of personal choice but we are talking about a charitable organization . Not so long ago many forms of behavour by an organization were assumed to be impossible to legislate around - corporate manslaughter being one that springs to mind. Perhaps an appropriate term for the WT 'chain'shunning policy would be 'corporate enforced bulling'. Manipulative enforced hurtful personal behaviour.
Of course they only have the power you allow them to have, but that doesn't mean its not wrong and it doesnt mean they cannot be 'encouraged'to look at and improve WT policies by various methods.

Whatโs the deal with all the Smart-Educated JWs?
by John Aquila inwe talk a lot about most jws being uneducated, uninformed, and that they lack critical thinking skills, but in my area there is a lot of jws that went to the university, medical school, law school, and came back to the organization.
in my circuit, that i know of, we had two electrical engineers, one computer engineer with a ph.d. eight teachers with a bachelors degree and three of those with a masters in education.
we had two medical doctors, one was a pediatrician who closed his business about 3 years ago and went to bethel.

Oppostrate Maybe that explanation absolves you from the hat-eating experience. If not, bon-appetit.
Ha ha ha! I knew that one would come back to bite me on the ass !!๐๐
You know, there is also the fact, as many have pointed out, that God coming along to solve the worlds problems and injustices is a mighty big carrott to dangle. If you are a deep thinker it could be said that those injustices would weigh more heavily on you, thus making the carrot that bit harder to give up? I dont know what others think? -

Did you guys know there is a polynesian place name called : Taumata-whaka-tanei-hanakoauau-o-tamatea-turipukaka-pikimaunga-horo-nuku-pokai-whenuakutana-tahu
it means (roughly) the summit of the hill where Tamatea, who is known as the land eater slid down, climbed up and swallowed mountains played on his nose flute to his loved one!
anyone who can pronounce polynesian without sounding very rude has my respect!

As regards attracting new converts to the JW's who are well educated: the more they dumb down their literature, the less likely it is to happen.
FayeDunnaway having not seen the literature for about 13 years I was absolutely shocked. My initial reaction was "is it me? Have I grown wiser with age and/or education?" , to be fair I now realize I had seen the simplified version but the study version is not that much better!
