i was really close to this family, it's.
been over 20 years since i saw them last.
but the husband an elder in his 70's .
James it sounds like your ex wife's husband was getting jealous of YOU being such a big important part of all their lives...
Reach out to your good friend...do what feel's right ....don't let the borg change your good nature, they have no power over you now.
ok, at our recent assembly, i noticed that there were quite a lot of brothers wearing beards.
not just the older dudes, but right across a range of ages, young men, middle aged men and older men.
is watchtower beginning to relax this rule at last?
Scully ha ha ha!!!!! Fanny chap. Ouch. Sounds nasty. If her husband had grown a beard too they would haul them both into a JC!!!!!
everybody gets one, the gift that stared up at you hopefully from its beautiful wrapping, and then, like a deflated balloon, delivers the worst gift ever.. i'm not talking about the gifts from small children like the "greatest aunt" coffee mug or the red and black lace folding fan.
surely you never would have chosen them for yourself, but it's the thought that counts from small people who love you.. then, there's the what the hell were they thinking gifts.
my mother-in-law has been giving these a lot lately.
it's been at least a couple years since i've posted anything on here, and much longer than that since when i was active.
ten years ago i first came here all in turmoil over my disillusionment of my beliefs.
i've been through lots of ups and downs since then.
I think you need to tell her how you feel. As to waking her up the Socratic method works best....things like " I've heard a lot of worrying things about child abuse ( show arc site) if there are so many peadophile elders, can they really be appointed by holy spirit? What do you think? "Then let her work it out for herself. Gently coach her critical thinking skills, they will be rusty..encourage don't berate with argumentative attitude or just spout facts. If she "discovers" ttatt herself it will become " her own" and not a source of resentment toward you.
Its good you want to protect your kids from cult indoctrination. However, who knows..if you'd forced the issue previously you may have driven her back to their arms and confirmed their prejudices. You did what you thought best at the time it as you've matured you've realized the danger the cult poses to your kids.
Do get marriage guidance councilling..

B!loody hell...every darn week one comes to light. I agree with the posters about the parents BTW..I think they need to start prosecuting JW adults who fail to protect kids..ALL kids. I mean this monster could have killed loads of kids by now for all those idiotic parents knew.
Don't know why the judge felt the Cong had finally done the right thing. Seems to me it was the young women, now an adult, who as an individual had gone to the cops when SHE realized, unlike her dozy parents, that others may be at risk from him.
does anyone have a copy of the boe letter directing publishers to not go into apartment complexes and/or condominium complexes with no soliciting signs?
i ask because yesterday and buttheaded jw (that obviously had no idea who i am or my past) was knocking on doors in our condo complex.
he would have had to drive past a sign which clearly states "no solicitation or material distribution.".
Where I live in the UK we have something called a "no cold calling" sign up for certain areas - so whatever you are doing you cannot call without prior arrangement. It tends to be areas with high elderly ratio or in our case many half way homes for learning disabled folk - in other words to protect the vulnerable from pushy/dodgy doorstep sales.
Should apply to cults but since it's my step dads brainchild and he helped formulate the legal side and push it through parliament I'm gonna ask when I see him boxing day.
when i was first introduced to the "truth", i was so distracted by the love and affection that the members were showing me that i was ready to convert into the religion without thinking twice.
i was conviced that jws were god's people (i still think some of them are).
i made it my goal to get baptized as i wanted to be part of the "only" religion that produce such good people.
I find the opposite these days..... they dress up to the nines because its the only thing they have to spend their money on. JW women have zero mental stimulation, its cruel. People are like kids ....the busier and more fulfilled they are the mukier they generally look as its lower on their list of priorities.Where I live in London only the poor and their kids "dress up" for everyday stuff.......same principal.
some have pursued an independent group study of biblical hebrew and greek so as to analyze the accuracy of the new world translation.
they have also held conferences and produced publications to present their findings and to supplement what is provided at our christian meetings and through our literature.. throughout the earth, jehovah's people are receiving ample spiritual instruction and encouragement at congregation meetings, assemblies, and conventions, as well as through the publications of jehovah's organization.
rather, the claim is implicit.
Sombody with enough knowledge or who is willing to take time to learn about mormons needs to rewrite this! that is an excellent idea and one that has HUGE potential. Nothing will work on everyone and nothing is a surefire but I think that could have a huge impact on some, to read that as written for mormons and then be told its true origins...
Agreed, something to add to the arsenal at our disposal. There is a poster on this site who is an ex Mormon. I will see if I can contact him.
in 1967 an archeologist found at tell el-deir alla an inscription that they called the book of balaam son of beor.
this looks to be about the same balaam that's talked about in the bible book of numbers.
remember the guy where his donkey is talking to him.
Crazyguy may I ask what you study please? And you also full-time student?
Fascinating stuff. I was always given to understand Shaddai meant mountains, so rarther than the plural Elhoim representing a single god of majesty, a kind of "royal we", it actually may simply mean GODS (of the mountains). Occam's razor and all that! I also read somewhere that yahweh maybe Baal, the son of el, and the host of heaven referring to the many gods of heaven...not as in god and his angels. Does anyone have anymore info..I will definitely look into the book full-time student mentions.
