Good point about the Lords Prayer..." As in heaven". So how could there be a war..or any shenanigans ( converting angels, job etc )without Gods approval???

but hang on minute, let's just think about what the world would be like if everyone was a jw,.
first of all, no higher education, so no medical advances, no scientific research, no modern day medicine, infectious disease rife, no doctors, no engineers, so no modern day comforts.

Landu I have read that excellent story and believe me it sent a shiver down my spine, very realistic.
The premis of the story is that SOME type of catastrophe has occurred, we are not told whether natural, man made OR divine...and the main protagonists don't know either. But guess what?its not long before 'those taking the lead'start to assume complete control over the JWs they can find (not to mention the few 'worldlies'that confusingly still seem to be alive). Needless to say these elders start bumping off people they believe have slipped through Jahs net or dubs not towing the line..,very scary and oh so realistic.
if the world was full of only dubs they would assume Armageddon arrived invisibly and they should impose theocratic ' standards'immediately - for standards read bullying hierarchy and unloving nitpicking whilst the rest of the world goes to hell in a handcart - no medicine no school no essential services no books and worst of all no desire to increase human knowledge and achievement.Back to the dark ages for us......nightmare scenario if ever there was one!!!

This is just about the best post ( and point) I have read on this forum, and there are many incredible posts but this simple point should be made to all ' in ' JW. ' s.They would retort with no war and lots of houses being built!! I wonder what the org would get the minions doing now there is noone to preach too...must keep them busy busy..so..what would they be doing? Aside from the meetings & study? -

how do most of you now feel about the military?

Tying in with what Blondie posted...is anyone familiar with the great war poets/ writers? Siegfried Sassoon " memoirs of a fox hunting man" is a favourite of mine..and Robert Graves, Edmund B!under, Wilfred Owen , of course and Rupert Brooke's. Soldiers all..Sassoon won the Victoria cross, but was nutted off as he, as did they all, became a pacifist and they didn't want a war hero court marshalled ..as a conscientious objector. Seems to me the closer a generation is to war....the more they are against fighting as a solution to anything. The French were called appeasers and collaborators in WW2 - but because of the horrors they saw in Verdun etc in ww1 they were wiling to do anything to prevent their kids from fighting the Nazis - they where wrong, sometimes peace is not an option. -

I was a truly indoctrinated sheeple who believed she was a pacifist...and HATED it, I was SO CONFLICTED around the military. I come from a long line of military servers..great grandad WW one( still have his call up papers) , great great uncle died at Pascendale , grandad was at Arnhem in WW 2 and all my great uncles were pilots in the Battle of Britain, one flew the famous Lancaster bomber. My dad was in the Fleet air arm until my mom made him leave when they married.I longed to join up..I worked at Wool which military hospital as a nurse and had the time of my life. My friends at the time were sent to Bosnia and I so wanted to go, the NGO ' s however where more at risk then ( as now, often) so guess who signed up for a course?? I wanted to join Medicicine sans frontier or Sur le monde, I used to fly so thought maybe as a helicopter medic. However, I fell pregnant and had two motherless step kids who needed me..I'm with so what now about kids ONLY if u are at risk and their is noons else to care for your kids. There are many ways to serve relatively risk free, I don't think it should be any different for men or women. Kids need their dads too you know, boys often more, so what's the difference?? Maybe PARENTS shouldn't be in the front line, when there is the option, of course.
However I have seen the old boys from WW1 with shell shock, horrible see them keep tapping their watches. And messed up homeless, alcoholic soldiers who served in the Falklands..bloody awful..they saw men throw grenades at 14 year old Argentinian kids, the BBC didn't the!l the truth on that shit ( obviously we have no Vietnam vets here) but I have uncles who were in Japanese prisoner of war camps and had his arm chopped off by sadists. A kiwi relative cleared up in Japan after the bomb...was a prisoner of war in Japan and made to clean up..his kids all died young of cancer.
Yes, its no picnic. But I also know of incredibly brave conscientious objectors ( harder to stand up to your friends than your enemies and all that) who were ambulance guys in WW 1- high death rate , these dudes where the genuine article.
