Cooking With Cast Iron

i can't even remember what got me interested in pans, probably wanting to try cooking more and watching some cooking videos on youtube, but i kind of started wanting to get a cast-iron skillet specifically so started reading up on them.

hey, if you're going to spend $50 on something you need to study them and create a comparison spreadsheet ... right?.

not only did cast-iron look great for cooking but there are some studies that show risks to aluminium / teflon cookware ... not that the wts was "right" about aluminium, but teflon can give off carcinogenic chemicals if overheated (so what if it chips off into your food?).

Simon you're a gem, I've been searching for the ideal castiron skillet.. I'm gonna try the field skillet. Of course the classic one mostbpeople use is le crusier, what do you thjnk of that one? When you say you clean with a brush after using sea salt what kind of brush? Just a regular washing up brush?

P.S. I'm kinda obsessed with cookware - currently looking for a good bain marie.

ok, so i don't know if this is "old news", and if this has been seen, and or mentioned already.

if it was, i do apologize, but i feel i have to mention what has been seen on tv, within the past 24 hours.. first off, i would like to say that i did not personally see this commercial.

however, it was seen by someone that i can verify 100% is telling the truth, as it was my own father who saw it.

This is incredible. Ive seen adds looking for accident victims and injuries at work, but never sexual abuse. The numbers of victims must be HUGE to SPECIFICALLY MENTION THE JW'S, No doubt about it someone has leaked info about the numbers they have on file in Brooklyn.

It's going to be interesting how the dubs are going to view this. Surely they cannot ignore the problem now. Surely they must see its not a few "bad apples" but a institutional problem endemic to a religion that views children as invisible, only useful as future fodder and women as servants to the higher ups. The Societies Pariah's that cannot touch a microphone or tell a man where the toilets are in an assembly.

Or will it be viewed as "persecution"by the world?

All About The Words We Used

in the time since i've left the borg behind i've had a few things hit me as to how words were used.

i'm wondering if anyone else has some similar examples, but here are some things that have made me think:.

watchtower - my whole life i saw this as a thing of protection from outside evil forces, and then when i left someone pointed out "isn't that what they used to keep people in prison".

Rainbow_troll correct me if I'm wrong but isn't what you looked into what people would call spiritualism which isn't a word dubs use, but if you were to use it they would become extremely confused!! After all usually anything with spiritual in has to be good, doesn't it??!!

BreakfastOC "Wife-like organization' always sounded a bit weird to me, even as a dub!

"Field Service" has a militaristic quality to it. After all, serving in the field in the army means serving were the ' enemy' is as it were.....for witnesses that's literally true!

"Heart Condition" is absurd,it should be brain condition ( it's a hang-over from when they believed it was literally true )

Its always something that made me incredibly uncomfortable with the Watchtower translation. The expression "Trully I say to you"is used time and again by Jesus in the NTwith the comma after the you.

Are there any doctrines which all Christian religions follow.

i cannot think of a single doctrine that is so clearly laid out in the bible that every christian sect teaches the same point.

are there any doctrine where there is total consensus amongst all christian religions, including jehovah's witnesses?.

Love thy neighbour? Not a doctrine of course and I guess even this is questionable as Jw"'s have to then "define" who their neighbour is.

Not a sympathizer

i think everyone here is under the impression that i am a watchtower sympathizer, i am not.

i just like facts and when people say things, which are their opinions but that facts point out as not being true, than that is when i get so motivated to make a comment.

i have read posts here, listened to six screens and read jwsurvey and seen things that people say, which are opinion, but pass them off as fact.. there are legitimate things that people on here and former jws have concerns over without manipulating what is said or trying to pass off opinion as a fact.

How long did people like Methuselah really live?

i was working today and my brain was working in circles like it often does and i started wondering about what i was always told about people like methuselah in bible times, and their incredibly claims of longevity.

i've tried researching things but have a hard time getting through all of the bible thumpers to some real evidence, and figured that some here may be more informed or have done the research previously.

so, did people really live longer way back when?

Snell there is so much numerical symbolism in the Bible generally ( usually relating to the stars and astrology) that I wouldn't be surprised if you were right about Methuseleh etc

Btw the number 12 ( relating to the signs of the zodiac) is a common one. Don't know how the Watchtower's " "bible scholar's" haven't figured out their 144000 isn't a multiple of the astrological perfect 12.

Now I'm Convinced There Probably Is No God

yesterday i made a visit to the museum in my city.

the top floor is the planetarium, which has a connecting room with a huge dome ceiling where they project lessons and lectures and you have a 360 view of the night sky etc.. this particular lecture explained about our galaxy, and how it's only one of billions in the universe.

and then we learned about each planet, some of their moons and the sun.

The museum sounds great. I'm definitely going to visit it.

If there is an intelligence behind the universe iself, it's left a violent creation - from spectacular suns that implode when it's fuel runs out to the cruelty that develops as a result of the evolutionary arms race. There's no doubt, therefore, any creator has no interest in what the human animal does as a result of inbuilt instinct to survive and pass on it's genes. I do not believe in the concept of free will, either. Any so called conscience we have is a result of our need as a species to rely on the society of others of our kind for safety and survival. Cynical, maybe, but it gives me more compassion and understanding when others do that which the herd disapproves of, I find it easier not to judge.

Short stay

after much research and prayer i am returning to being a jehovah's witness i can find nothing that eliminates them from being god's directed people , in the end they will reach the end of there journey despite mistakes and errors just like the israelites entered the promised land , thanks for your input and all the best on your personal journey ☺.

I notice you mention your wife wishes to be " zealous and have friends around"as if the two are synonymous , I believe this may be the crux of the matter. In the JW world they are. Do you think the first century apostles preached to have a social life? Cults withdraw their love and friendship the further you stray - the bible teaches to *give love* the further the sheep stray.

The Watchtower bible has changed the translations In many important ways.( my personal bugbear is " gifts in men" ( elders) when it's gifts unto men. Just Google it or do a search on here for their many changes to fit their doctrine , including of course the insertion of the made up name Jehovah in the New testament.

Please don't let the natural need for companionship lead you to a lifetime of pointless servitude I wish you all the best.
