Hi there, I'm really sorry to hear of your friend and partners suffering. The best place I can recommend that may be able to help is Barbara Anderson's silentlambs.org . There is bound to be a users forum and someone there will I'm sure be able to point them in the right direction for region/country etc. The site was set up by Barbara, an ex Bethelite ,who left when she uncovered the shocking number of child abuse victims within the org. and her web site is very much geared to that issue.

Counselling
by jhine indoes anyone know of an online site for jws who have been sexually abused in the wt ?
where someone who is in a relationship with someone who has been abused can talk to others who have had the same experience and maybe their family members ( if they are supportive obviously ) .
a friend of mine is in that situation and would like some insight into how to help their partner .

By what authority does the Watchtower declare itself biblical interpreter?
by TTWSYF inwe're god's reliable mouthpiece, but not prophet?
jesus inspected all faiths in 1914?.
does everyone agree or is it more convoluted than that?.

"Jehovah God is the Grand Identifier of his true messengers."
What makes him the " Grand" identifier? Does he have a big pointy stick?!
"Jehovah is also the Great Exposer "
I won't go there.....

think we shouldn't underestimate the impact of Gilead missionaries in the past for promoting growth in places like Japan, Nigeria, Brazil and so on. So the removal of Gilead will contribute significantly to declining numbers.
Thank you SBF. What you say about the financial burden of Giliead makes a lot of sense...what with training and ongoing support.
Also, I don't know if you managed to read the post about the reddit CO (AMA) as he was also a missionary. His commitment and energy ( bi-lingual, well trained and full time ) definitely backs up what you were saying: that the loss of these folks will have a huge impact on the numbers of new converts in those countries.

Do they take the GB seriously?
by Tech49 inso this is an honest question that i have been thinking about for some time.. do regular jehovahś witnesses in other countries (other than the usa) take the governing body in new york seriously?.
i mean, i cant help but wonder about the publishers in japan, or south africa, or mexico, or new zealand, or even the uk, or spain, or italy...... or russia?.
not you and i (we know what you think of them), but the regular jwś...... do they take these american buffoons seriously?

"They're imperfect men is their get out of jail free card."
Couldn't agree more PE. We even tell family members not to use that one before it even comes out of their mouth. We tell them, we DON'T buy it! It's a cop out!!!!
Agree, Toes up. But what I don't get is how they can't see the " imperfect men" thing must also apply to Catholics, Muslims, Baptists, Methodists.....etc etc

Jehovahs witnesses that believe its "The Truth" vs JW's who know it isn't
by Christian Gutierrez inhey guys!
what do you think is the percentage of jw's believe that it is the truth and the percentage of those who think it might be some false or all false??
?.
-
Diogenesister
Depends if you included children and young people in that percentage.
If you did it would be pretty high....after all something like 66% of people raised as JW eventually leave.
If we are taking about baptised established jw's over the age of 25, I'd say a good 5 - 10 % are trapped in and would walk out tomorrow if they wouldn't be shunned. At least.

I agree with how you see "the end" playing out , I'd possibly stretch out the timing....30 -40 years??
I find the demise of Giliead the most telling. I'm sure we have some ex Giliead missionaries on here and I'd be interested to hear their take.
Is it because they can no longer prove their doctrines? Are they fearful of the students researching for themselves or is it purely money?

New, but needed to vent- thank you :-)
by Danni Jackson ini discovered your website this morning as i was trying to find some information about 'marking'.
you see a very close friend of mine was 'marked' earlier this week and as i know the ins and outs of the situation (as we are close friends) i disregarded the talk immediately as i know my friend is obviously having issues but is no way a 'danger' to anybody else's spiritual health.
basically they are dating a non-believer- hence the talk.

Hi Danni, and a big hearty welcome!
There is another issue at stake here...the fact there are so many more sisters to brothers in the org. This means, if they don't marry out, many sisters are condemned to singleness
I'm afraid if your friend is determined to marry this chap she is indeed in for a rough ride for a while. Once they are married it will all settle down, BUT in the meantime she will be considered " bad association" even, ironically, by those who are also married to non-believers!!!
I find it unloving and unChristian. "By their fruits you shall know them ".

What have been some of the funniest local needs talks that you have heard?
by DaPriest ini remember once in berlin south germany there was a local needs part for the men only, and how they should use the toilet.
in all seriousness for ten minutes a retarded nigerian was going on about how men need to sit down when using the toilet.
no mention of anything else.. it transpired that some little kraut boy from an "interested" family would aim for the side of the toilet and leave a great big puddle for others to clean up.

There was a local needs parts directed at the sisters that didn't shave their armpits and legs.
My wife in freezing weather was told not to wear an ankle length skirt as it was 'worldly'
You *have* to be kidding!!!
They have this weird, dated idea of how women should present themselves. They say be modest - OK.
Yet if a woman was truly modest and left herself as nature intended. Simply brushed - not styled - hair, basic baggy long clothes, no jewellery nor make-up and plain flat lace-up shoes, for example, she would be counselled for basically not being attractive enough.
We want you modest but also as eye candy.

I know this is not going to be popular opinion but I don't think Stephen Lett does the cult any harm whatsoever.
Quite the opposite. He comes across As very genuine, warm and loveable ( not saying he is)The very opposite of an evil cult leader.
In fact he could have become a well loved American actor/comedian if you ask me.
Antony Morris, on the other hand, will do a lot of damage if you ask me with his hysterical diatribes about trousers. He doesn't come across as spiritual but a bossy middle management type.

I've often wondered about the Japanese. It may be a stereotype but they come across as so sophisticated and intelligent but also rarther xenophobic so it always amazes me they have thrown over their traditions for an American cult.
Although on the other hand they are very martial and seem to enjoy taking orders....much like the Germans who have been the backbone of this cult.
