  if you went to it, (or go later this week) how was it handled?

  just the video or some commentary too?.

  i have heard of a few negative comments from some that attended - one jw even openly said to me "not very encouraging, all they go on about is money lately" and another (a serving elder, no less) said "someone's got to pay for all those lawsuits".

  I love Slimboyfats take on the matter, what he says is utterly true people are commodities to the Org.

  . The WT will use him for a while, but at some point some senior WT official will take exception to something about him and he'll be out of favour. Then they'll use someone else for a while, and so on. Unless you are very rich and famous like Prince or the Williams sisters, or have a very valuable skill such as a lawyer, as a JW you are always going to be replaceable and the organisation treats you as such.

  The wonder of scientific research

  this has possibly been brought up before however here goes.. constant reference is made by many posters to scientific research as being the only way to prove something factual that would otherwise have to be taken on faith.

  there actually seems to be "faith" in scientific findings.. my experience over many years is that most scientific research is fake.

  nothing oftencomes of the big announcements made to raise more money.. money, prestige, pride, human error, suppositions etc., are rife amongst the scientific community.. i realise that there have been many advances over hundreds of years but humankind is in a mess, although very different to even a century ago.. the medical profession now has vaccinations for everything, antiviral drugs etc.

  I'll just add my tuppence to the fray.

  Unfortunately, scientific research requires money. And that's where entities like pharmaceutical companies, with not the best of reputations, come in. And of course companies and orgs with agendas like the tobacco growers association etc that fund research. But, that's why the scientific method is so essential...scientists can come along and falsify any dubious research or claims.

  as Cofty said you need to use critical thinking to sift through the marketing, media attention grabs etc to get to the valuable research that is done using the best weapon man has against superstition and bias which is, for now, the scientific method.

  There's a talk where Toni Morris says he looks forward to killing people at Armageddon with his big brother Jesus. Might be the same talk as tight pants.

  The recent annual 2017 meeting where that cold hearted S.O.B. Gerrit Losche says that praising Jehovah is MORE IMPORTANT than saving lives in the ministry.

  100% will say there are no apostles from the 1st century alive today.

  Just so you know, Apostle just means messenger, or emissary.

  Dubs could, in theory if they were educated in Biblical Greek enough, claim their C.O.'s are apostles....so yes, they are still around.

  School for Congregation Elders

  i attended the school late last year, and it was an emotional and mental rollercoaster for me.

  i was already divided in my heart to say the least.

  one of the instructors stayed in my home for the week, and my family genuinely enjoyed his company.

  JWs + Chronic Illness

  i once asked my dad why, with all the power the wt insists on having so much control over its adherents' lives, they don't provide information about healthy eating habits or, like the adventists, wilderness training.

  i mean, the gb encourage people to remain poor, and poverty is known to correlate with health outcomes, particularly those that are diet related.

  i'd say most witnesses i knew over the age of 40 were overweight, had high blood pressure, heart problems, gastrointestinal issues, one kind of cancer or another (no doubt a result of eating their feelings if you ask me).

  But a million rules about entertainment, grooming, hair length, marriage, sex, friendships, education, family relations, dating, clothing, jobs acceptable....etc etc are not at all invasive!

  Sounds really interesting! Do you have a blog? I've always wanted to study this area. I'm a waspy British girl but I've always felt the African diaspora has contributed to the creative arts in a yuuuuge way and for centuries other cultures have plagerized their ideas; often without financial recompense or honestly crediting their influence/referencing their work. I believe that's why many of the biggest modern stars seem to be money focused; they are long due recompense. What do you think?

  If alcohol was a DF offense

  i guess the question which is the hardest to give up smoking or alcohol.

  many folks gave up smoking in the 70's including me but i have known some hard drinking brothers and if consuming any kind of alcohol became a df offense, i wonder.....
