Why do people join today? With the internet and access,
They don't.
my excuse is that i was born in the religion.
but if someone wasn’t, why would they become one?.

i've never been completely shunned because i've never been baptized.
my father side has always talked to me and included me in family events.
but my mom's side is in denial of shunning me.
my mom physically beat me pretty bad growing up to the point the state stepped because she put me in the hospital when I was 16..
Mandated by the cult, if it helps the anger at all toward her. I'm not excusing it, it hateful. I made a fuss even as a believer that it was disgusting. But for your sake I want your anger to subside so if it helps to know the cult encouraged beating kids, especially in the 80s, 90s. They told parents it was showing love to do so " he who spares the rod is hating his child", that's the Bible for you, 3,000 year old peasant principals.
we all know that this cult will drive those trying to leave to desperate measures, and today by brother was very nearly one of those statistics.
he slashed his thigh with a kitchen knife and was bleeding out until he called the police.. i got a call on my way home from work from a police officer, coincidentally it was one of my old friends from school who's now a cop.
he told me my brother is in hospital after an attempted suicide and has lost some blood but will be ok. but i should get to the hospital as he's asking for me.
PE " I even placed a book"
(Ha ha tea went west LoL)
Glad he's doing a little better. xxx
we all know the gb like to impose rules upon the rules... but did anyone else out there have parents that implemented rules upon those rules?
mine did.
my mum tended to copy whatever the elders wives were doing and took it to the extreme.
punk Marine! oh wow did he tell you any stories? Anyway that's such a charming story by the way, he sounds like a lovely man.
No wonder you are so well balanced.

Agree with incognito - use the fact he needs rest to get the jw hangers-on out. I suspect though most high dependency psych wards don't let just anybody visit their intensive care patient ( they're not silly, they don't want their vulnerable patient triggered by the sort of guilt inducing stuff they say).

Pale empower I'm so so sorry. Rant coming...I can't help it!
Will these jw " carers" have access to him in the hospital? Hope not, so the poor chap gets a break.
I urge you to reach out to his Consultant psychiatrist and fill him in as best you can with whats going on.
If your family are in full on shun mode I wouldn't mince my words - when your mother said "he's made a promise to Jehovah" I would tell them, if your brother is being guilted "No! He's made a promise to a publishing corporation" and tell your sister straight out you don't believe in obeying "some random dead guy who made these rules in order to sell more books for his publishing corporation". Don't feed the monster and let them guilt him more, tell them straight this cult is what's killing him, along with many others.
I might be tempted to give the hospital some info on cult programming by Robert Lifton but they might think you are telling them how to do their job.
we want people to learn ttatt.
we have numerous resources online to draw jws in so that they will wake up.
however, i've noted some radical methods that have been used by fellow exjws, and quite frankly, this must stop.
I understand where you are coming from with some of this, but...
It's not normal for a total stranger to confront a person for their religious beliefs and use emotional tactics to win them over. A strange man speaking to a woman in the street could frighten her view of strangers. It has happened
Isn't this exactly what JW's do in the preaching work ???
quite possibly the most cringeworthy thing i've seen them do yet.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tk88rstv6o.
Am I the only one that doesn't think it's too bad?
Oh well. Maybe I just have terrible taste.
chapter 48. turn on the tv!.
nine days after mark’s wedding, i got a phone call early tuesday morning.. “get up… get up and go turn on your tv!” it was mike, my jehovah’s witness friend from seattle.. ok so i got up and walked downstairs and did what he said.
there it was, i saw the smoke and flames coming out of the twin towers.
When all the hypocrites were running back to the Org, as it delighted in death and misery, your good conscience prodded you into leaving.
You're a mensch, Keith.
I heard the fear and terror in one man's voice just seconds before his death and I fainted. Something primeval in my social animals brain felt exactly his terror and I blacked out.
Even apes have more compassion than their god. I should know.
i ask this question out of interest, because as a jehovahs witness for some 26 years, i have always felt that there is an 'all work, no play' culture within the organisation.
the organisation doesn't promote social gatherings.
i could count on one hand each year how many get togethers we have had.
W friend who was a tradesman how to properly size extension cords (which he used often). I tried to tell him what gauge cord was needed for a certain number of amps. His reply was "I don't need to know that; I just buy the fattest one I can find."
Oh LoL Magnum that's my husbands obsession he is always telling me off for using the wrong one!

I certainly got invited to more stuff than my worldly peers when I was young ...we had cong parties, which was nice. We had music and food and did dances like the conga LoL! Lots of weddings, and dinners of course.
I think in the 70s and 80s it was easier to mix in if you were not born in ( someone mentioned born in cliques, which I think are a thing now more so), people were open and this frightful phrase " not of our sort"( Paul sometimes I could throttle you) was not bandied about as it is now!!
When I moved to London my first cong in South East London was horrible, run by spiteful Cypriot elders and their wives. Ignorant council house snobs I'd never met such people before.
Of course the minute you don't attend weekly the invites disappear. They seem friendly when they see you, but they never make contact.
