That's Cofty you must be a mind reader. I've been trying to understand this today after watching a video about an overweight guy fasting. I think my basal metabolic rate must be really low since menopause. Ive been 8 st my whole life until then. Medication and menopause and I've gained weight and I eat and small breakfast plus one meal a day basically. I do snack at night though - yoghurt or crisps, mainly. I'm also vegetarian and have been my whole life (since 12).

Weight Loss and Insulin Control
by cofty inask most fitness coaches, nutritionists or health professionals and they will tell you that weight control is about calories in versus calories out (cico).
after all, you can’t ignore the laws of thermodynamics!.
the flaw in this simplistic reasoning ought to be obvious; a human body and a steam engine are two different things.. our bodies have evolved complex systems of control and feedback loops in order to maintain a steady interior environment, also known as homeostasis.

Serena Williams allegedly baptized this weekend
by neat blue dog in.
not sure if this is fake news or not..

Dropoffyourkeylee I agree it's partially about having a kid.
But I'm also with Slim it's very cynical to wait until you've found a non witness husband, had your kid (out of wedlock) & your career before getting baptized when you are "safe" from disfellowshipping.
What does the Bible say about remembering God during your youth?!!

Somehow I think nobody read the memo!
by LostintheFog1999 ini came across an old notebook of mine when we were spring cleaning our attic space.. for some reason i had written down these two references from older wt magazines.. reading over the two of them now i can only think that elders didn't pay any attention to the message either at the time or since.
*** w75 8/1 p. 474 par.
14 elders presiding in a fine way ***.

Probably written by Ray Franz or Ed Dunlap. Or maybe Lyman Swingle?

How to reason with friends
by peacefulpete inwe have long time friends who are seriously involved with the urantia book.
they have regular meetings with others and seem to have become convinced of its alien inspiration.
it seems mostly harmless but weirds out anyone who talks to them.. do any of you have experience with this or have suggestions about how to debunk the book?.

Are the statistics out yet?
by slimboyfat inisn’t it about time they released the report for the service year?
or have they stopped publishing it?
did they released selected figures at the annual meeting as they usually do, such as the memorial attendance or record number of pioneers?

So are global numbers of jws in decline?
Good question. I'd love to know. I do think numbers of Pimo are over estimated. The majority of pimo are unbaptised teenaged kids of JWs, so their numbers wouldn't be counted in the majority of cases? I'd be surprised if 1% of baptised, active JWs are full on pimo's.

Research project: A study designed to explore the experience of leaving the Jehovah’s Witnesses
by Researcher2023 inas part of a psychology msc research project, i am looking for participants to take part in a study designed to explore the experience of leaving the jehovah’s witnesses.. former witnesses who were raised in the organisation will be asked a few questions about their reasons for leaving, their experience of leaving, and how their life has changed since leaving.. taking part involves completing an interview over the internet.
according to research needs, the number of questions asked in each interview may vary.
the interview will take between 5 – 90 minutes depending on the questions asked and the level of detail you wish to provide.. your participation will remain confidential and anonymous, and it is completely voluntary so that you may withdraw at any time up to two weeks after the interview.

Should Jehovah's Witnesses Trust the Governing Body?
by Vanderhoven7 inif there is evidence that jesus invisibly chose specific men at headquarters in brooklyn new york in 1919 to be his faithful slave and that mandate and ability passed on to future directors...then the answer might just be a resounding maybe.. what is the evidence for this invisible appointment and what is the evidence that this is just watchtower mythology?.
i hope jws like scholar and fisherman will explain why the trust the gb.. i must be honest, i see no evidence at all to put trust in either the 1919 selection or the current men taking the lead in warwick.

Good point about whether the mandate was passed on....even assuming they were right about 1919, where does it state in the Bible that such an appointment was "hereditary" to future directors of the board (which is what they were).

I know a user called Bola on this site so he definitely exists. Unless he's deleted his account?
NB Simon can see if someone has messaged you and how many times....so it's a weird post if Bola hasn't 🤔

Have you ever been on a congregation picnic?
by LostintheFog1999 inwere you ever on a congregation picnic?
i was on several occasions.. the arrangements were often announced from the platform after the closing song and prayer by the last elder up on the platform.. sometimes it was included in the service meeting announcements as "on saturday we're meeting at 10.00am at the kingdom hall for field service, and after field service for anyone who wishes, especially for the younger ones, we will be having a congregation picnic meeting at the beach carpark on seaview road.".
well, according to the new elders manual you won't be hearing those words again.

Thomas MoreTranslation: "If you sanction a congregation picnic and someone get molested or raped - it's on you. We are washing our hands (like Pilate) of any repercussions (which are likely given the problems we know we are having)."
Ding Ding Ding!! We have a winner!!
It's exactly about this. They fear legal repercussions. The 'no fun' issue is a useful aside.
