  Massive earthquake. Haiti doesn't get a break.

  port-au-prince (reuters) - a major earthquake hit the impoverished country of haiti on tuesday, collapsing buildings in the capital port-au-prince and burying residents under rubble, a reuters reporter in the city said.. he said he saw dozens of dead and injured people in the rubble, which blocked streets in the city.. the epicenter of the quake was located inland, only 10 miles from the capital port-au-prince and was very shallow at a depth of only 6.2 miles.. it prompted a tsunami watch for parts the caribbean, the pacific tsunami warning center said on tuesday.. "everything started shaking, people were screaming, houses started collapsing ... it's total chaos," reuters reporter joseph guyler delva said.

  "i saw people under the rubble, and people killed," he added.. a local employee for the u.s. charity food for the poor reported seeing a five-storey building collapse in port-au-prince, a spokeswoman for the group, kathy skipper, told reuters.. another food for the poor employee said there were more houses destroyed than standing in delmas road, a major thoroughfare in the city.. panic-stricken residents filled the streets desperately trying to dig people from rubble or seeking missing relatives as dark fell shortly after the quake.. "people were screaming 'jesus, jesus' and running in all directions," delva said.. a major earthquake, of magnitude 7 or higher, is capable of causing widespread and heavy damage.

  there was no immediate report of damage or casualties.. the tsunami center said the watch was in effect for haiti, the neighboring dominican republic, with which it shares the island of hispaniola, cuba and the bahamas.. "a destructive widespread tsunami threat does not exist based on historical earthquake and tsunami data," the center said.

  heard that many jw's in birmingham are leaving organization....looking elsewhere for spiritual homes.

  I want to but I'm not sure how to go about it. Nobody in my family knows I'm fading. What if he still feels it's the truth but he's just not going because he's discouraged? How do I bring this up without exposing myself?

  No. I didn't like praying on bible studies and I certainly didn't want to pray in front of the congregation.

  The Day I had an Epiphany

  my eyes opened in more ways than one.

  as i lay in bed that sunday morning, i knew i was never again going to rise hurriedly to get myself and the kids dressed and fed for field service.

  i was actually feeling relieved and wanted to just turn over and go back to sleep, certain and content in my decision.. the day before, i had stood at the end of the block, after working a territory filled with barking dogs and people sleeping in after a hard days work week, and thinking, "never again".

  Yes, it was Sept '09. My husband dragged me out. I hadn't gotten the courage yet to tell him I no longer believed. Though I had been expressing my doubts. I told him that since I found out the truth about the cross that the society might be wrong about other things and I can't in good conscious teach those things to others. So I didn't talk to anyone but made him do all the talking. At one door a man answered and after having a short discussion he asked if we were 7th Day Adventist. I've never been out since.

  south park did an episode a few years ago where the director of hell was welcoming in new "sinners".

  if you have time, it is hilarious to watch, especially when the jw speaks up.

  i'm now a return visit! how do i stop this?

  at my place of business which i own, i have discovered that the local jw's have taken to dropping in magazines, brocheres etc.

  the staff accept them just to be polite but arn't interested.

  but you know the deluded jw's... my business has quickly turned into someones magazine route!.

  Looks like they're not following procedure. They're suppose to ask for the manager. They're not suppose to leave literature with employees. Do what chickpea said. But your local KH could have five different congregations and each cong. is assigned their own territory to work in. So make sure your request gets forwarded to the congregation that's assigned to the territory your business is in.

  Any interest in helping write a movie script?

  i am not a writer, but i thought it would be fun to write a movie script in which the plot is that the jw's had it right.

  it would follow a family or two currently living as faithful witnesses, a family that is not faithful, and worldly people.

  the story would then progress into the great tribulation, and then armageddon, and then the paradise.

  this thread was inspired by the poster here with that moniker.

  that name, for the first time in my life, caused me to think deeply about the scriptural real meaning of the phrase used in isaiah, often used by biblical defenders to show it's inspiration by god.. i googled the phrase, and among other hits, found this little blogspace with comments that echoed my thought on the matter.. http://www.youngausskeptics.com/2008/12/what-you-really-think-a-sphere-is-a-circle-you-really-think-that/.
