Have JW's got the Memorial date wrong?
by wobble ini remember a long and complicated debate between our very own joseph malik and the unbelievably named rud perrson about the sabbaths that seemed to show that the nit-picking witlesses had even got this wrong !.
i would love to see a simple explanation.. the other thing is that i do believe the once a year thing is wrong, jesus didn't say "every passover", they were enjoying a meal together, and he said "as often as you do this......" so whenever they ate together it would be good to have something that celebrated jesus' life and death.. but is nisan14 wrong anyway ?.
love.

Does anybody else feel relieved that they won't be tortured during the great tribulation?
by doublelife ini grew up hearing about different ways people have been tortured in the past and was always scared of going through that during the gt.
it was always an unhealthy obsession of mine.
i always thought that i was more worried about it than other jws and that i would end up renouncing my faith to get out of it.

Edington: Awe...thank you.
designs: Huh?
Farkel: Short and swift? According to who? The wtbs. I never trusted their definition of short and swift.

jdhf: A few years ago I started taking thyroid medicine and wondered the same thing. I also wondered if I'd be able to keep my eye glasses. If not, then I wouldn't be able to see anything. If I was made to do a death march I wouldn't be able to see where I was going.

Why Do People Abandon the Christian Faith?
by leavingwt ini enjoyed reading these points.
in the second list of "real reasons", it was points #2 and #3 that first struck me, after leaving the jws.. .
why do people abandon the christian faith?.

Dang, I feel so ignorant. This is the first time I've heard of eastern christianity. Just something else to add to the list of things to study. It seems like it never ends.

This good news of the kingdom
by sd-7 inif you'll open your 'benefit from theocratic ministry school education' books to page 279, you'll notice that it says, "the message jesus said would be preached in our time goes beyond what was preached in the first century.
" if you actually opened your books, i'm paraphrasing, but that's pretty close to the actual quote.. i remembered this quote from sometime ago, but couldn't understand how people overlooked this obvious violation of galatians 1:8: "even though we or an angel out of heaven should declare to you as good news something beyond what we preached, let him be accursed.".
of course, the answer is obvious: many jws don't pay attention to what they read.

sd-7, I'm glad you didn't leave the forum. This topic brought up something that I had never thought of before. It never occurred to me that "this good news of the kingdom" is something different than what jws teach. I need to take some time to read the NT.

designs: Lol.
Edington: 'You think too much.' I remember hearing that myself. And it does give you something to think about when you realize that your real father would get himself killed to save you whereas Jehovah will just watch so that you can prove your loyalty.
QuestioningEverything: Amen.

My mom got stumbled by today's Watchtower
by JerkhovahsWitless inthe photo on page 26. she noticed it and was wondering before i even brought it to her attention.. why is it ok for the jw posing as the "worldly person" to wear a cross necklace?
aren't jws suppose to destroy their crosses prior to becoming a jw no matter the monetary or sentimental value?
why can the watchtower keep cross necklaces on hand as props?

I wondered the same thing when I saw a fortune teller in the knowledge book. She had a crystal ball and on the same picture were tarot cards. Don't remember what page it was on.

Outlaw, restrangled, and lancelink: Yes, it was torture being in the WTS.
dinah: I'm 27 and I don't remember Malawi specifically but I remember all the tortured stories from the yearbook that traumatized me.
Oceanblue: Very scary indeed. I remember wondering if we would be put in concentration camps again.
Cofty: It is very unhealthy for a child to worry about things like that. I always thought I was the only one but maybe others just didn't want to talk about it.
journey-on: That's why I never had kids. I was scared that my children would be tortured in front of me and I knew I would renounce my faith in an instant. I didn't want Satan to have the advantage so I decided against having children.
Out at Last: It's good you never believed it.
Lady Lee: Thank God it ain't happening.
dissed: Yes, I remember that scripture but for some reason it never comforted me. I remember one pioneer told me that because we live in USA, which is suppose to be part of the Anglo-American dual world power, we would get it worse than anyone else in the world.
pixiesticks: That's horrible. I, too, had the same fear of renouncing my faith and not being forgiven and losing out on everlasting life. Rest assured that we don't have to stress over that anymore.
leec: Unfortunately, you're right. But at least the threat of torture isn't coming from our religion.
Mad Sweeney: That's what I've always felt about the rank and file too. I just couldn't understand why other weren't affected by it as much as I was.
Jerkhovahs Witless: Wow! lol
badseed: Yes, being zapped is much less painful.
