I just heard about Oompa a couple of hours ago on facebook. I participated on this forum for a very short period of time, and lurk only occasionally. I don't remember interacting with Oompa, but he was one of the posters I remember. This brings back memories of losing my dad to suicide. I'm so sad, but also so angry. I hate this stupid cult!

Any Ex-JW's in The Dallas, TX DFW area?
by troubledfiancee inhi guys, i'm new to the forum.
i'm looking for anyone in the dallas area that has left jw's for any reason and has since learned the real truth about the watchtower and jw doctrine.
i've never been involved with jw myself, but my fiancee grew up as a jw and is having thoughts of going back.

Is this normal witness behavior?
by confusedstudent ini quit my bible study a couple days ago after taking a month or two to work up the guts.
have been getting harassing emails/phone calls blah blah blah.
but i got an email today telling me that an unbelieving spouse can be "sanctified" by his believing mate.

Yes, this is definitely normal JW behavior. You can just imagine what it's like growing up in this cult. When I was a child, I used to think that any bad behavior on my part would cause all of my schoolmates and teachers to die at armageddon because they wouldn't come in to "the truth" due to my bad example.

I celebrated my birthday today for the first time!
by doublelife ini didn't really have a party or anything, but people at work know that i'm no longer a jw and they got me a birthday cake.
my birthday is not until the 28th, but my co-workers always celebrate anyone's b-day on the 3rd wednesday of every month.
i've been giddy all day over it, though every once in a while, i'll remember how disappointed in me my parents would be.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes!
sabastious: Yeah, I know there are a lot of adults who don't celebrate their b-days. It's minor, like you said. But it's definitely nice to have the freedom to make that decision for myself instead of it being made for me.
whereami: Lol.
jamiebowers: Aw, thank you. And I hope my bf does something too. Last night, he could tell that I was excited about having my cake at work.
Heartofaboy: Happy Birthday to you too!
OTWO: I know what you mean. Whoever gives me my first b-day present will be the one I'll always remember and hold special, no matter how boring the present itself may be.

I've been giddy all day over it, though every once in a while, I'll remember how disappointed in me my parents would be. That'll always make my b-days a bummer. But what I thought was interesting is that I went to my acting class after work and told my teacher about it. One of the other students heard me and asked if I used to be a seventh-day adventist. I said, "No, but close. Jehovah's Witness." JWs think they are so unique and that everyone knows them for not celebrating anything. But there are other religions out there just like them, and jw wasn't even the first thing that came to the other student's mind when he heard that I never celebrated before. Then, he was like, "Oh, that's right. They're the 'no party' religion." It really shows how small that religion is. And to think, I always used to think jws were the most important religion in the world.
