I'm so thankful there is an actual community of "Lovers and Ex-Lovers" of JW's to turn too. It's a damn shame. People get involved thinking that they are doing the Lord's work, from a genuine place of love, then they get controlled by bad people who take advantage of their guilt.

He went to the meeting today, for the first time in months, with his brother. He offered to have his brother call me. I said absolutely not, I haven't even met Mama yet, and you want me to talk to your brother about my immortal soul? I told my BF I refuse to talk to anybody about this but him, do not give my number away or send those people to my house. I also told him the day he attends my heathen Church I will go to a meeting with him, which won't happen ever. So he's stuck.

This was the cult that they seized all the children from in Texas for child abuse. The cult who's prophet Warren Jeffs sits in jail for aiding in rape. It's utterly horrifying and morbidly fascinating. This book might be of interest to you all who are recovering from your experiences with the Watch Tower Society/Jehovah's Witnesses. This woman is amazing to have escaped how and when she did, from the closed soicety she did. It's unbelievable that these subcultures exist in the modern world. I had read this book before getting involved with my supposed wishy-washy lasped JW boyfriend, and I didn't see the parallels between the two cults until I really started reading on both.

i apologize if this has been mentioned, but i don't have the time to come on here as often.

yesterday's bookstudy on divorce got my shorts in a bit of a knot.

apparently, according to the god's love book, a wife could consider legal separation from her husband if she is physically abused, but (get this) only in the case of extreme physical abuse, and if the wife's life is in danger.

I read this whole thread, and I'm STUNNED to say the least. Wow, wow, wow............ I was the victim of a certain amount of mental abuse from a co-dependent partner, as in, your completely incapable of taking care of yourself, therefore, you are needy, so I am needed, kind of relationship, as well as an abbreviated form of isolation. But I don't think I[ll ever complain about it again!

some of you may have read my post about my lasped jw boyfriend, and his pressure on me to consider to convert eventually (i'm not going too!

) but i still would like to better understand the church and watch tower society better so i can understand this mindset he has.

he makes much to do about the lack of an offering plate, and "the 2 boxes, one for the church, the other for the needy, nobody is put on the spot to donate".

I know my church ofers to keep records for ppl so they can get tax right-offs, but the secretary is an employee and those documents are confidential. She takes the collections every Sunday, nobody else touches it from what I understand, other then the ushers and the Reverend who blesses it. I don't like the idea of randon "Brothers & Sisters" getting a look a who donated what if they wrote a check.

I'm not playing devil's advocate here, but my Episcopalian church was endowed with 4 million dollars and a mansion after a kindly old dowager with no family just gave everything to the church she loved after she died....but then again, this came as a complete SHOCK to the people and there are provisions in the will about what it can, and cannot be spent on, at what rate it can be spent, ect. I think what they call "Charitable Planning" maybe a common practice,,,but never in my life have I've seen an outline on how to do it......Shame. I hope no one is hounding widows.

i remember an elder in my congregation gave the talk "godly view of sex and marriage" in the 90's.

he was talking about masturbation.

he said to the audience if you have any problems with masturbation, please let him know, he also said please do not be embarrassed.

Wow, that article on dating a lasped JW was helpful. I'm getting the impression that they have the ability to manipulate even the most resisting of people. I think my BF's trying to convince me to talk to someone though comes out of genuine if not extremely misguided concern. It's hard to reason w/someone who honestly BELIEVESeverything that he's been told. He's had no other exposure to any other religion, or hardly at all. They missioned in the very bad area he grew up in. He says that the only people who ever offered to teach him about the Lord were JW's, and I feel guilty on a human level about that. I have a Jamacian friend who grew up Catholic and grew up weathly on the island, and she says they run rampant over there in impoverished areas. I guess it is easier to manipulate ppl who think they have nothing to believe in.

He makes a decent living, and I often wonder if he got baptized if he would be asked for more "donations" if the church got wind of his paycheck, properties, and vehicles.

SATAN'S METAL?????????????? You've got to be kidding me.... I realize these articles are old, but OMG.....Is that something that the members of the organization believe today? I'd be curious to know if there are other bizarre fears that the WT fed into....That is INSANE a religious organization would spend that much time on something like that....LOL they were published back when kids were chewing on lead paint chips, and they were were worried about ALUMINUM?

(BTW, it may have a grain of truth, I have heard aluminum zircomnium in anti-perspirant may cause breast cancer, but I've never stopped using it)
