After taking the red pill, I believe in living my life happily and freely, and not wasting time bothering to argue with JWs or JW apologists :) Have a good one!

Didn't he die of a stroke, also? Guess they didn't get to celebrate Ray Franz's death for very long around Bethel...

@sd-7 LOL. Ironically, I also had a part in the Circuit Assembly the previous year. I'm pretty sure the guy at the microphone said exactly that.

"Confessions of a Teenage Jesus Jerk" by Tony Dushane
by JimmyPage inokay i've been reading this one lately and so far it's even funnier to me than kyria's book, maybe because it comes from the male viewpoint.
this book is not to be missed!

I really enjoyed it, too. Just wait until you get towards the end. It's a doozy.

I was 12. I thought it was my own decision at the time. I did it because I never really felt this unquenchable, all-consuming love for Jehovah that I was "supposed" to have, and that everyone else seemed to have. I always felt like the one miserable sourpuss in a sea of glowing, beaming, Stepford JW faces. I thought something was seriously wrong with me, and I figured that perhaps getting baptized would transform me and sort of "force" me to feel love for Jehovah.
Oh, and sd-7, I had the masturbation "problem" too, for 3 years before I was baptized. Though I felt pretty guilty occasionally, I didn't let it stop me from getting baptized, though (and I certainly never confessed or got caught - I had pretty strong self-preservation instincts). After baptism, I managed to stop for a few months before relapsing, at which point, I decided "eff this!" and never bothered to try and repress it again or feel guilty about it. I think on some level, part of me always knew I was destined to bolt once I turned 18.

Did your congregation have "Talent" Shows?
by lepermessiah ini saw this video on youtube and didnt know if i should laugh or crawl into the fetal position.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abm0t-qhllc&feature=related.
.
we had several "talent" shows over the years in my original congregation - it was the only annual gathering more nauseating that the meetings.. my friend and i would always bring our walkmans and blare heavy metal in the back - hoping to block out the embarassing crap on the stage.you always had a few older ones get up on stage and slaughter a kingdumb song.

In the same talent show, the daughter of the PO (who was actually a pretty decent, laid-back guy) and her friend sang No Doubt's "Just a Girl" and apparently it scandalized some of the more prissy congregation members. I guess good Witness girls shouldn't be singing "feminist dreck" :-\
But then, these were the same people who were offended by my referring to Job's wife as a "bitch" in my American Pie saga (hey, what else rhymes as well with "these boils are really starting to itch"?)

Our congregation had a talent show one year, in honor of a poor kid going off to Bethel. I must have been 13 or 14. My mother had me write an epic JW/Bethel-themed medley (to the tunes of "American Pie", the "Gilligan's Island" theme, and other random music) for her, me, and my sister to sing/dance.
It was pretty miserable, but at least it was funny (I had a sense of humor even then), and wasn't boring like the Kingdom Melodies that many other people sang. Those women in that video up there sound positively mournful.

I've got a memoir coming out next year. You need to write up a proposal to send to potential agents/publishers (better to get an agent if you can; they can negotiate the best deal for you). Proposal needs to be 20-30 pages and include stuff like a summary, marketing plan, promotion ideas/tactics, etc. And then on top of it they generally want you to include a couple of sample chapters - maybe 50 pages or so of material. The whole thing took me a couple of weeks to put together. You don't have to have the entire book written before finding an agent/publisher. A good 50+ pages is an excellent start and should be more than enough to give them an idea of what you're all about, and whether they want to work with you.
You can find sample book proposals online. You pretty much need to have one if you want to try and work with major publishing houses, and potential agents will at least want to see sample material before they'll agree to take you on. Even if you're lucky like I was, and have an agent take you on without a proposal already in hand, they will need you to put one together for them to send to the publishing houses. A good agent will help walk you through this process.
