@talesin Yes, I own it and love it! Get a little misty every time I watch it. I think it was Juliet Stevenson, though, not Emma Thompson. She was great in it, too.

Alan Rickman is my favorite actor nowadays - has been since I was 9 and fell in love with him in "Sense & Sensibility". (Gregory Peck is probably my favorite old-time one.)

Did therapy help you?
by gutted ini am considering going to a therapist.
even though i believe i have gotten better and made some progress (it has been roughly a year since i stopped attending meetings, doing anything jw-wise), i still have a lot of negative self-talk which is hard to overcome, especially during off days like today.. i find the hardest things for me is low self-esteem and social interactions/anxiety.
i'm sure some of you can sympathsize, and though i am not fully blaming my issues soley to my jw upbring (born-in) i know it compounded those issues.. .

It helped me a lot. And I refused to go for a really long time. I wasn't comfortable talking about myself, much less with a stranger. Then I finally caved and tried it and it ended up doing a lot for me.

JW Talk Radio- My First Guest Flaked
by PublishingCult inok, my first guest has flaked on me.
this is a little disappointing because i was looking forward to a discussion about homosexuality and the bible that people could really sink their teeth into.. .
other the other hand, i am relieved.

New ex-JW memoir coming out...
by brizzzy ini don't post a ton here because i'm kinda shy.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/0373892357?tag=thegirsguitoh-20&camp=14573&creative=327641&linkcode=as1&creativeasin=0373892357&adid=038ez4bjpam7bcsze5mq&.
that's the amazon link (which is currently the most affordable, i believe, but it's also available for preorder at b&n, borders, indiebound, and indigo-chapters if you're in canada, if you prefer one of those retailers).. .

Thank you, ladies! I'm so glad you are enjoying it - although I see that already the JWs have begun descending on my Amazon page ;) I love how they don't *actually* read it, and just post the standard "It's all lies! Lies and out of context by an angry, bitter, immoral apostate!" comments :-P Good thing I don't bother arguing with cultists anymore. Just gotta shrug it off. I think they do the most damage to their own cause by getting all nutty in their own defense.
@FoundSheep Life is getting better. It's a process, innit? Still quasi-homeless, but now have a job...and a book that may or may not do OK. Ask me again in a couple months...there's been interest in the move rights ;) I'm kinda hoping if that happens, it'll be a big step in the direction of life being good, or at least more sustainable.

I'm on the front page of AOL o.O
by brizzzy inhey guys, so the book came out today.
my story and the book are on the front page of aol news right now (and i was just on npr and heading into another npr interview right now): http://www.parentdish.com/2011/04/26/brianna-karp-girls-guide-to-homelessness/?icid=maing-grid7|main5|dl5|sec1_lnk2|58386.
some of the jw stuff is mentioned and of course there are a few jws and jw apologists flooding the comments section proclaiming my apostate-ness ;).

Thank you again, guys! It's scary of course, but also really exciting.
@Juan: I'm not too worried. There's always going to be assholes out there. It's the internet. It affords people the anonymity to be douchey. Plus AOL users can be a little older and more along the conservative side, so they're very set in their ways/prejudices. For the most part though, people have been really great about it all. I think I'm just growing a thicker skin. Reading negative stuff about me used to make me sad; now I'm just vaguely amused and don't feel the need to respond to every negative comment to set the record straight.
@laverite: I'm sure I could find the link and PM it to you. Was it the one where CNN came and filmed me in my natural habitat, or the one where I interviewed in their studio? They had me on two segments. I hate rewatching the TV appearances though; I was sooooo chubby at that point, and TV cameras make it even worse (bad body image, haha).
@Dagney: Yes, I've had three NPR interviews so far, I think (in Texas, Baltimore, and Miami) and a few more on the way! <3 NPR. Two were pre-taped and one was live today for an hour (the one in Baltimore, WYPR with Dan Rodricks).
@Loz & @WhereWasI: It's available on Kindle on Amazon as of today :)
@I quit!: I'm glad you're enjoying it! I see you're in California and you know SCR! I wonder if maybe we know/knew some of the same people in the same congregations! But yeah, I love it at SCR and the people are the best I've ever worked with. I just really love what I do there, and getting to work in theatre.

Thank you all so much! I just got done with the radio interviews for the day (tomorrow is the WORST - 10 before noon!) and now I'm at my 9-5 job working a half day, haha. They're being very patient with me. No rest for the wicked.
@laverite - Yup, that was me on CNN last year! That whole thing was so crazy.
@unshackled - Yay, someone gets the Princess Bride reference! He's an awesome dog. Gentle giant. His name suits him.

There's a little "insert/edit image" button in the comment section...it's greenish, looks like a picture of a tree or something. If you have the photo on facebook or anywhere else on the internet, you can right-click and select "Copy Image URL" and then you're set.

The one I drive right now ('68 VW Bug, Kermit):
Also loved my very first car ('88 Jeep Wrangler) and my motorcycle ('94 Honda Magna 750). Everything else I've ever driven has been meh or just downright awful.
