Are the JW's just as superstitious as any other religion?
by dissed inthree years ago, my wife's jw sister of 55 became seriously mentally ill. hallucinations, hearing voices, acute paranoia, physically acting almost like a child.
her and her husband, both have a masters in education, while he also serves as an elder.. why the background?
because its their belief, even with their education, the demons are causing her problems and we, my wife and i, were the ones bringing the demons into her life.. for three years, she goes undiagnosed, while he refuses to get her medical help.

What a horrible story. I am so sorry you are being blamed for your sister in law's illness. She really does need to see a doctor and I hope they finally get her the help she needs. As far as JW's being superstitious, I recall from my childhood, playing records backwards to see if they had messages from the devil. I lost so many of my favorite records because my mother heard something she did not like. I recall renting movies at the video store and then watching them and something would be "satanic" and my mother then wrapping the video in watchtowers and dropping it in the drop box at the video store immediately. When my husband and I married, and my family converted him for the one year he was a Witness...they convinced him that his Magic the Gathering cards were evil and we had a bonfire in the backyard and burned them and his Dungeons and Dragons manuals. I've since replaced them for him.
And the saddest story ever was of a young brother who was my age and diagnosed schizophrenic. The elders were convinced that he was possessed. Even though the doctors told him the voices he heard was just a symptom of his illness he thought it was demons talking to him. I was one of the few kids in the hall he could talk to that would not freak out on him over it. He would see things all the time and hear things and had quite a few scary stories. Sadly he ended up killing himself a few years ago. I guess constantly being told you are demonically possessed would get to you.

Just Thought I'd Share..
by AwSnap inwe have some close, non-jw extended family staying with us....they drove 700 miles to get here.
they will be here for a week....so far it's been about 5 days and my jw sibling has seen them for one hour.
my sibling has been doing field service, family study, there's a meeting tonight, and family worship night.

As I have gotten older, and out of the religion, I have decided that the fights are the best part of family get togethers. I just pop some popcorn, sit back and watch with amusement. It's much better than letting it annoy you. And really, since you can't do anything about it, it is a great way to handle them.

I think I must be the only one on the planet who has no clue what is going on with Tiger Woods. My husband came home and asked me about it yesterday and I was dumbfounded. And my kids said 'Who's Tiger Woods?'. Looks like I missed an opportunity here for a little strange:(

On the watchtower.org site: Can a Pagan Holiday Be Made Christian?
by Elsewhere inhttp://www.watchtower.org/e/20071215/article_01.htm.
do you find it acceptable that a religious leader would give a seemingly christian meaning to events and symbols whose roots go back to ancient paganism?
as to the proper course, the scriptures admonish true christians: what fellowship do righteousness and lawlessness have?

Hehehe if you want to get technical...look up the origin of the kiss. It has pagan symbology written all over it and was used in rituals. Try telling the Witnesses they can no longer kiss!

Names of the Angels
by KingAgag inhi all, this might be a silly question but i am honestly thinking about it.
i don't believe in god or angels but i am still curious as to this: the bible says that the stars are too many to number but that god knows them all "even by name".
logically then he would know the names of all his myriads of angels, right?

Ah hah! Nevermind. I forgot about the name Lucifer which means Light-bearer

Hmm that does bring up something interesting. It has been awhile since I have read a Bible. I keep asking my husband to buy me one that isn't the New Testament and he looks at me funny. So maybe one of you can answer. Was Satan's name always Satan? Cause I keep bringing up to my JW family and friends and even Christian friends the fact that God...who should be all-knowing...created this Angel who went bad. Therefore God should have known he was going to go bad. Therefore God created evil. And if Satan's name was always Satan then God knew from the start that he was going to oppose him. So it was all meant to happen from the get-go?

I've constantly got the neighborhood kids over. But other than that, no...I don't want anyone over, don't want the phone to ring, don't want my messenger flashing, and am generally anti-social.
