DF for smoking is proof that WT is legalistic, Pharisaical, clueless, not God's organization. Godless unbelief leads to eternal death, not addiction to a substance that may get you to heaven quicker, but won't keep you from it in light of His shed blood (it is something believers should be free from, but it does not negate the fact that they are believers).

Were you ever DF'd? For what and how long?
by QuestioningEverything ini was df'd when i was 20 or so for fornication.
i got reinstated when i was 24. i had a son during that time and i was worried about us if we didn't get back to the fold and 'protection' of the organization.

Judas and Unforgivable Sin
by corpusdei ini'll be the first to admit that i haven't done the research on this one, and i can't remember the answer from my jw days - but there's something bothering me about the scenario of judas and his betrayal of jesus.. considering that the betrayal of jesus by judas was foretold in prophecy, it was essentially set in stone.
it was going to happen, it was an absolute because divine prophecy is correct.
judas had to betray jesus in order to fulfil prophecy.. now, i've always personally believed that a person does not sin by an act that they cannot avoid, but this seems like kind of the motherload of standing on the traintracks.

JWs are wrong on many biblical truths, dead wrong. Yes, my doctrine of God and Christology is more right, objectively, than the JWs. The Judas issue is debated in Christian circles, but it is not a salvific (necessary for salvation) issue, just a peripheral, nuanced theological debate (Calvinism vs Arminianism, etc.). Any given belief can be examined objectively in light of Scripture and reason. False views (like JW Arianism, blood transfusion fiasco, false prophecies, etc.) can be refuted and sound doctrine can be defended (biblical exegesis, biblical theology, etc.). JWs frequently proof text and display ignorance of original language studies, etc. They rely on a pathetic sectarian translation and aids that indoctrinate them into wrong views. They cannot think independently nor credibily and trust shoddy pseudo-scholarship that is often dishonest (misquoting sources, etc.).
Again, is the link a pro-WT view or just this person's opinion (whatever it is)? After a quick scan, I doubt this is the poster's original writing/research. Should they have credited another source and is there plagiarism or copy/paste here? If it casts doubt on the inspiration of Scripture, it is probably a liberal source that is refutable. Something smells fishy, but it would not be worthy refuting in detail since the credibility of Scripture does not rise or fall on the Judas issue (which is historical narrative; I would agree that OT verses are used illustratively about Judas vs raw predictive prophecy).

WT/GB is playing god in a Pharisaical way. Salvation/eternal life is based on faith vs unbelief in the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ, not on conformity to endless rules and regulations from unbiblical, fleshly men. The control over JWs/families is unbelievable and cultic. Church discipline should be redemptive, not punitive. It is not tied into our relationship with God if it is not a rejection of God Himself. WT DF/shunning is not biblical nor humane, just manipulative and harsh. Many ex-JWs must live in fear when they are separated from the destructive organization. Thankfully, salvation is not tied into obedience to men, but to God (WT is a false religion, not a mediator to God). I pray that those who are hurting will know the grace and love of God (His holiness also leads to repentance and loving obedience, but it is to God and His Word, not changing, ridiculous rules of men). Awake? Wake up sheep!

Prodigalsnot:
Where does the Bible say we are gods or divine? It calls some delegated evil judges, false 'gods', but not God by nature (Gal. 4:8).
One possibility is that Judas hanged himself on a tree over a cliff and the branch broke causing him to fall to rocks below spilling his guts. Plausible, even if argument from silence. The issue is that he died more than how he died in detail. There is also no silver issue.

Prodigal, are you serious?! This is terrible thinking/theology. Judas is historical narrative, not allegory. We are NOT the Holy Spirit though He indwells believers. The rest is just as much mush.

What would you say to a friend who claims to have experienced demons?
by InterestedOne inmy jw friend says she experienced demons act on their own behalf even before she became a jw.
she supposedly used to be an atheist, but her experience with demons led her to believe in the "spiritual realm" before she ever encountered jw's.
she says her ex-boyfriend & his friend used to do the ouija board & as a result have a demon following them around.

WT is right that demons exist, but wrong to think they are Jehovah's organization. There is demonic oppression/roots to this false religion. Its followers are not immune to demonic influence, but the organization is powerless to help them. Having known the Holy Spirit in my life and churches that exalt Christ, I sense an oppressive spirit (demonic) in Mormon, JW, etc. meetings/individuals (some vs all).

Even Catholics consider Spong a lunatic fringe nut. No need for me to forgive anyone here. No offense, no defense.

transhuman: Shelby is a heretic and a lousy scholar. Check him out before you lend him credibility. There is much better conservative scholarship to refute him.
guest: universalism is a liberal, false idea that all will be saved in the end unconditionally. The biblical picture is that some receive, some reject God with different destinies (heaven/hell-lake of fire).

We ARE not in the millennium. The mill. starts after the visible Second Coming of Christ after Armageddon. How can WT be so ignorant of the chronology in Revelation? Then again, how can they think a verse in Rev. refers to their 1935 Convention?!
