you blame the victims. God has no responsibility. A worm causing people to go blind is not "unforseen occurances" it is the natural outcome of your God's creative work. Since he is all knowing he knew that would be the outtcome and did it anyway.

In the meantime, yes we have to endure suffering for many reasons. The answers are in the bible

Unfortunately for most of the victims of river blindness they live in areas where christianity is not really established, so I doubt that these victims would be looking for answers in the bible that they don't have because there are few if any bibles, what bibles there might be are not in their languages, and oh, now they are blind so they cannot read the freaking bible anyway. Lot of comfort that is.

I was not offering an argument to explain god, I posed a scenario that is very straightforward where innocent people are suffering due to the effects of something god supposedly did (creating the black fly and the worm that causes river blindness).

I gave this example so that religionists who were skirting around answering the question posed by the topic of this thread with irrelevent issues such as "man's inability to govern himself", "the universal sovereignty issue", "the victims being punished for their evil and wicked ways", would not be able to deflect the responsbility from God onto the victims. I posed the scenario to get an honest answer from the religionists, I did not offer any explanation, and after 16 pages of posts we are STILL waiting for a straightfoward answer to the topic of this thread that does not shift the responsibility off of god onto the victims.

So far nothing that has been said has even come close to shedding a positive light on God where the unnecessary suffering of innocents is concerned.

You do not need books or dictates from humans to discover true spirituality, you can do it on your own. I leave it to you to figure out how to do so. No human can tell you what spirituality is you have to experience for yourself and you won't find it in a book.

I'm not sure if you are talking to aliens, but as of yet, I have not seen, heard, or spoken to any aliens.

No, I have not read anything of Attenborough. I am not relying on his argument. I used the river blindness example because it is simple, there is no way you can blame man, it is not due to the "evil" of the victims, it does not involve the sovereignty issue, and it could easily be rectified if God chose to do so.

I did not make noise about research, in answer to someone who assumed that I have never read the Bible and never read ANY religious works by real scholars but instead got all of my information from publications of the WTBTS, I gave a very brief summary of what I actually have done.

I make my own arguments, I do not need to rely on anyone else's.

this is not a thread to gain sympathy.

my life has changed dramatically over the weekend.

my husband (hoboken) has just left me and my two boys.. i'm not going to divulge all the details, but needless to say things are very tough emotionally for all of us.

This is a lie. 1 Corinthians was talking about EXTREME, open, flagrant, immorality that would be recognized by people outside the congregation as such. It was not talking about matters of conscience or convuluted doctrines that people outside the congregation would not recognize as "gross immorality".

The purpose of 1 Corinthians 5 was to keep the congregation free of EXTREME immoral influences.

The WTBTS has expanded this to include deeply personal matters that would never become known to the congregation, let alone people outside the congregation except for the gossips known as elders' wives.

And this "not eating with such a man" doesn't mean that you treat them as if they no longer exist, it means that you don't SOCIALIZE with them in an overly familiar way.

There is a huge difference between say an engaged couple who have sex before marriage and someone openly living in a clearly sexual relationship with someone they are not married to. The engaged couple would not be disgracing the Christain name because it would not be widely known that it happened. That is unless the couple asks the elders for help and the elders' wives find out about that, then it will be shouted from the roof tops.

The WTBTS has twisted this principle into something horribly grotesque. They are liars.

Yes, there is an acceptable time for untold suffering while "God" sits back and sadistically enjoys basks in the suffering.

Not demanding anything of your god, just asking why he allows suffering that he could easily stop to continue.

I have read the Bible cover to cover at least 3 times a year since I was 9 years old. I have mediated and prayed over it for HOURS a day for many years.

what a sad thing its going to be for those who doubt or refuse to be taught when GOD finally does do something about it

This sounds like a threat. So, what you are saying is that if we have questions that really concern us then God is going to destroy us? Punish us in eternal fire? Something equally horrific? All because God didn't give his instructions in a form that a reasonable person could understand but instead gave us the convoluted nonsense that is the Bible?

Wow, the list is so long of things that are so much better where to even start.

I don't feel guilty because I am not "spiritual" enough. I know I am spiritual.

I have more time for really important things, friends and family.

I have a good career that I could not have had if I was still in the cult.

I LOVE holidays,

I get so much enjoyment from little things in life. Flowers, birds outside my window, sunshine. I never noticed this stuff before.

I dont' feel guilty when listening to music I like because it might not be "approved", or when reading books, or when picking out clothes, or when deciding how long to wear my hair, or a beard, or so many other aspects of life that the cult leaders had an "approved/disapproved" status for.

I have read some truly wonderful books, books that would not have been "approved" by the cult leaders.

I have true friends, not the make believe friends in the cult. I have a WONDERFUL wife who I would have been told to view as "worldly" by the cult leaders.

I served in Desert Storm and I would do it again.

I don't feel anxious all the time that Armageddon is coming and despite all my efforts I did not measure up somehow.

In many parts of the world it is actually illegal to watch something life threatening and not intervene if you had the ability and opportunity to do so.

There is a famous case, not too long ago. a girl was being raped and a crowd was watching and no one did anything to stop it, not call 911, not take a rock upside the head of the attackers, nothing.

EVERYONE who was standing there was charged with the crime.
