well, i always knew that hillary clinton was some kind of retard but her latest comments about haiti make me think that she smokes crack as well.
she says that hait must take the lead in the reconstruction of their country.
they have trouble doing construction in the first place.
But the US can not be seen as establishing some sort of colony there.
How in the world is providing aid and the organizational structure and infrastructure needed to distribute the aid "establishing some sort of colony".
No, we do not need to walk a fine line. We need to admit to the reality of the situation, that the Haitian government is totally corrrupt and incompetent and organizational structures and infrastructure have to be provided as part of providing aid and this needs to be done immediately and we can sort out the governance problem later.
Compassion has to trump political correctness.

LongHairGal,
yes, I mentioned in my post that the government of Haiti is so corrupt that anything that is not nailed down is stolen.
The way to solve that problem is do not give anything directly to the government, give it directly to the people. The United States should be taking the lead in setting up a reconstruction program where things that the people need are given directly to the people. This will have to be done at gun point because the Haitian military, the police and armed thugs will try to forcibly steal it.
I disagree that providing assistance in this way is colonialism. If your house was on fire and thugs were demanding payment from the fire department in order to park the fire trucks on the street, and other thugs were demanding payment for the hook up to the fire hydrant, and the police came to chase the thugs away would you think that this was trampling on your rights? No, you would not.
We have a moral obligation to help these people, and if helping them means that we forcilby circumvene the "government" of Haiti then that is what we have to do.
During Katrina the US military basically took control of New Orleans. Was this a trampling of the rights of the people of New Orleans? No, it was not. it was necessary because the government of New Orleans collapsed and the police proved to be corrupt and armed gangs were taking over the city.
i always felt like i was not a "spiritual" person because i loathed going in field service.
i'm not even sure why i loathed it.
i am very outgoing and can talk to anyone, anytime, about anything.

" The problem is also the manner in which a JW do that service and how its use to judge one’s Christianity. It’s more about placing publications and counting empty hours, than directing people to the bible motivated by pure love and devotion. Its more about using those hours to feel justified before God, while neglecting other thing of more importance such as, visiting the sick, the widows, the orphans, the spiritually weak and depressed or sharing with others."
I think this is what I was feeling but had trouble putting into words. We weren't there trying to legitimately help people. We weren't being good neighbors, JWs for the most part don't know their neigbhors (they are 'worldly'). We were putting in our time so as not to be marked (judged) as a spiritually weak person.
The way the WTBTS runs it, the field service work is not a work of love motivated by the heart, it is a chore that must be performed or God will murder you.
i often get inspiration for threads from pms from other posters.
here is one that i thought i would put out there to get your recommendations?.
what is the best thing you did?.
I read.
Here are some books that I highly recommend:
As a man thinketh. (I LOVE this book).
The three boxes of life.
What color is your parachute?
Soar with your strengths.
i'm going to ask you a question.
but first, i'm going to set the question up properly.. the original christianity became officially established when the catholic church found constantine as its protector and defender in the mid 4th century.. that church grew mighty, powerful and exerted an influence over vast reaches of the earth.. the church had an absolute fetish for anything of nature deemed "holy" that might be a relic of jesus or his apostles or (as time went by) any saint.. this took the form of conserving the true cross, splinters from the true cross (one in the pope's ring!
) the bones of martyrs, robes, chalices, knuckles, fingers, etc.
The Catholic church did preserve the Bible. The problem is that the Bible as written is not the one that they disclose to the masses. The Catholic church decided what writings would comprise the "holy" bible. The writings that they don't want us to see are preserved, it is just that you will never see them.
By the time Constantin got involved the "Bible" did not exist as an extant original document. There were many writings, which had been copied many times.
After the official bible canon was established the Catholic church scoured the known world for copies of the "unapproved" writings and burned them. They did keep copies of these works in their libraries in the vatican but made sure that you and I will never see them.

Well, I always knew that Hillary Clinton was some kind of retard but her latest comments about Haiti make me think that she smokes crack as well.
She says that Hait must take the lead in the reconstruction of their country. "RE"-construction? They have trouble doing construction in the first place. Here is what she said:
"The government of Haiti must and will be in the lead," U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said. "We cannot any longer in the 21st century be making decisions for people and their futures without listening, and without giving them the opportunity to be as involved and make as many decisions as possible."
This is like the firefighters asking the homeowner who is trapped in the blazing building for advice on how to put the fire out and rescue the dying family members. Unbelievable.
No way can the government of Haiti deal with this catastrophe. They don't have the money, the equipment, the skilled people, or the know how. The government of Haiti is extremely corrupt. Anything that is not nailed down will be stolen. They are also extremely incompetent. They also have no resources.
What is wrong with these pepole (in the United States government?).
Haiti needs massive assistance. They need EVERYTHING. Tents, blankets, clothes, clean water, food, medicine, fuel, construction materials, skilled workers, doctors, nurses, the list goes on and on. They need this assistance now, today, with no strings attached.
They dont' need any more speeches or press conferences or meetings. They need practical help and lots of it.
Hillary Clinton is either an idiot or is so far out of touch with reality as to need medication or perhaps to be institutionalized. This is one of the most preposterous statements I have ever read.
i always felt like i was not a "spiritual" person because i loathed going in field service.
i'm not even sure why i loathed it.

I always felt like I was not a "spiritual" person because I loathed going in field service. I'm not even sure why I loathed it. I am very outgoing and can talk to anyone, anytime, about anything. so, it wasn't that. I loved God (at the time), so it wasn't that. I don't know, something about field service just didn't feel right. And, I REALLY tried. I didn't play any of the games that I saw others play, like pioneers who would start their time with a "return visit" right near their house so that they could count all the driving time as time in field service. Or, like taking 30 minute coffee breaks and counting the time by putting a Watchtower magazine out where people could see it. I really tried to "put in time". But, invariably I would end up with 10 hours or so just so that I wasn't "marked" as not being spiritual. About two years before I left the cult I said "I can't do this anymore" and I stopped going in field service altogether.
The idea of selling magazines and calling it preaching just made me feel like I was hit in the stomach with a baseball bat.
I don't know that many ex-JWs but it seems like one thing we all have in common was a strong distaste for field service. I wonder if it is because we all knew deep down inside that it is disingenuous, that it is not at all like the preaching that the apostles did.
What was your experience with field service?
good or bad thing?
.
I believe that the females' place is in the home.....
As soon as she gets home from work.
do you have talent as a musician?
how much better would it be if you focused on pioneering!.
are you artistic?
I sing. Many people who have heard me think I am very talented. I studied opera with a well known opera singer, she thought I was talented. I didn't study opera until the age of 44. I became a JW at the age of 15. EVERY year book pounded it into your head through their ridiculous "life stories", which I learned later are mostly made up lies, that to serve god you have to give up whatever talents you have and be a janitor.
I HATE the WTBTS and the governing body. I didn't start singing professionally until I was 46. All those years my love of music was stifled. And for what?
